When only 6 candidates showed up, that was the red flag. Sana ingat-ingat ang mga Pinay dahil ang daming pageant nagsusulputan ngayon. Kala kasi ng mga hinayupak na organizers na yan ay napakadali mag-put up ng pageants.

A similar incident happened in a male pageant in 1999 when Manhunt International was held in the Philippines. This
Singaporean based male pageant is a major pageant for men, but the Philippine organizer has not really fully under-
stood the cost and the logistics, management, execution, and the awesome task of holding a contest of this magnitude.
The producer was short-sighted, there was a lack of imagination and foresight. Having produced Mr. International
Philippines 1998, they thought all the while holding a pageant as big as this will just be peanuts and everything will
sail smoothly to the finals.
The finals were held alright, and the winner was Ernesto Calzadilla of Venezuela. But the behind the scenes (BTS)
situation was just awful, We arrived at the venue and the carpenters were still doing remedial and corrective actions
on the stage. The event was recorded by a major station, but that never saw the light of day as the Philippine organ-
izers were unable to foot the bill.
The last days of the candidates in Manila were harrowing, There was a problem with food, and although the candidates
were billeted in Heritage Hotel, we heard they were allowed breakfast only and lunch and supper the candidates were
left on their own. People were talking that Mr. Colombia has not brought enough money for himself and had problems
with finances in a foreign country. We also heard Mr. Croatia wanting more to see the Philippines welcome the help of
ordinary Filipinos who were generous enough to help to ease up the embarrassment and the gravity of the situation,
I was one of those who prayed hard, that the TV station will finally release the production from its archives because
I saw the proceedings myself and it looked promising and the candidates deserved to see their efforts.
This scandal was covered by some broadsheets and tabloid and I was wondering if it happened today, if netizens will
be forgiving.

I saw an old magazine in my cousin’s house before where there was a several-page feauture of that Manhunt edition. The winner from Venezuela was very handsome but the one that caught my eyes was Mr Croatia in a very skimpy bikini hihihi. I still remember his name: Daniel Topic if I am not mistaken. I had the hots for him when I saw that magazine

You are right. He was Daniel Topic and he was together with equally gorgeous Marian Kristinaov of Bulgaria. But the
audience that time are putting their bets on Ernesto Calzadilla of Venezuela and the youngest of the candidates Jose
Daniel Cortes Romo of Mexico. India's John Abraham now a famous actor in India was first runner up.
