Celebrating Beauty: A Portrait of Filipino Queens

Postby mybadname » Wed Nov 03, 2021 7:06 am

FILIPINA, who are you?
At the dawn of the new century, Filipina queens emerged from the shadow brought by a decade of dark ages. Its rebirth not only brought pride to the country but it made beauty pageants in the country a culture not only for women but also, for men. Indeed, its new popularity was sped that even the machismo society starts to appreciate it. Now, even male pageants are being staged anywhere in the country.

Major Pageant winners
Miss Universe

Because of this new found gem, the Philippines becomes a training ground for future beauty queens. Not just for local queens but also to some international queens who like being refuge at the hands of Filipino beauty makers.

Miss World winner

Filipino designers, on the other hand, become a go-to-person by aspiring queens. They loved dressing up women even for free - an attribute that was abused by some National Directors.

Miss Earth

Because Filipino queens become a torch bearer of Asia-Pacific in pageantry for the last 10 years, inspired other countries to uplift their status in the pageantry too. Thus, the rise of Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and now Myanmar.

Miss International

However, at the height of its popularity, so is the bashing of the Filipino queens. But no one can deny that what the Philippines contributed to the world of pageantry was a testament to its commitment to upgrading and uplifting women. Today, women in the industry, in the educational sector, in politics, in the medical profession, etc, are joining the pageantry to help others and be the voice of the voiceless. Indeed, advocacy becomes a weapon to become a queen.

Minor Pageant winners
Miss Supranational

For the last 10 years, Filipino queens have never wained in pageantry. Yet, they amplify it. Staging different pageants are a testament to that. Before, there are only two major local pageants in the country - Bb. Pilipinas and Mutya ng Pilipinas.

Miss Intercontinental

Today, 5 major local pageants are staged every year - Binibining Pilipinas, Mutya ng Pilipinas, Miss Philippines Earth, Miss World Philippines and Miss Universe Philippines. These five were so popular that they start the birthing of regional pageants that are of national and international caliber like Miss Bicolandia, Bb. Cebu, Miss CDO, etc.

Miss Globe

Meanwhile, the popularity of these queens was heavily protected (whether good or not) by their army of fans who are willing to do battle just to shield their beloved queens.

Miss Asia-Pacific International

The unprecedented success of the Philippines in the world of pageantry made them the Country of the Decade by some beauty blogsites and websites.

Miss Tourism International

Today, the Philippines was considered a full-fledged POWERHOUSE in beauty pageants joining the likes of Venezuela and the USA. While others drumbeat themselves and proclaim as such, but no legal basis can attest to that based on their success compared to the former three.

Reina Hispanoamericana

Miss Eco International

The Philippines, home of modern and empowered FILIPINAS, never ceases to slow down as the new dawn of success starts to resurrect again. Truly, a powerhouse of beauty, advocacy and intelligence.

Miss United Continents and Miss Multinational

Other Pageants' winners

FILIPINA, who are you?
Bashed. Maligned. Empowered. Celebrated. VICTORIOUS!
That's the portrait of FILIPINO Queens.

Wonderful article! Please send this to all Indonesian blog sites and/or their pageant websites so they'll know the very definition of a "powerhouse". Please also send a personal copy to Gandhi Fernando who insisted to Karen Ibasco that Indonesia "is indeed a powerhouse nation" based on the number of their semifinal placements since the time of their joining pageants. Hahahaha!

I believe a powerhouse is someone or something that is a source of influence or inspiration. This give them an importance to others. Truth to tell, Philippines, Venezuela and the USA, including Puerto Rico and Colombia can command attention. Their delegates are the most sought after or being watched for in every pageant. Without them, a pageant tends to become boring.

Now tell me if I'm wrong. Now that Indonesia will not join Miss Universe in Israel, are there pageant fans that feel regret? I believe, maybe there are few but can be counted only. This is a testament that Indonesian queen is not that influential. By saying this, I can therefore conclude that Indonesia is not a powerhouse. Its one crown in Miss International cannot save their fans' delusional claim.

I am glad Thailand starts to lie low in claiming they are powerhouse because they never are. They tried for the last five years in Miss Universe but still to no avail.

I just wonder why these fans claimed their country is a powerhouse when the real powerhouse never proclaimed that they are. Quite ironic, isn't it?
THIS IS ME! WILL YOU LOVE ME?

If Indonesia is not joining Miss Universe this December, I still have to hear somebody comment, " Miss Universe this year
will be boring ... powerhouse Indonesia will be sorely missed."

Sadly you don't have to say you are rich or beautiful ... everybody knew even if you didn't tell them.

If someone tells you they are a powerhouse, be careful. People of powerhouse countries don't have to tell they are from
powerhouse countries.

Their record of winnings and placements speak for itself.

I always say that if you have to go around telling people that you are a "powerhouse" ... you probably aren't.

If you were a "powerhouse" ... you don't have to convince people.
