Thoughts on Prelim PRODUCTION of MUP

Postby jhunz23 » Tue Sep 28, 2021 3:37 pm

I know we hear “Pandemic” reasons left & right
Logistics are harder

As in Bare Airport
Sana may nag design man lang
Kahit platform with kurtina dagdagan ang ilaw
Tapos 3 judges lang for Prelim? Seryoso?! Tsarot

Guys I am not a hater

I am certain the national costumes and evening gowns the ladies wore, looked much better in person than on film. the ladies were on point but sadly, production-wise there seems to be something missing, productions lack that super HD gloss, lights, glam quality that enhances details like how MUT shoots their productions. MGI also shoots awesome productions. Nevertheless, i'm sure MUP team did as best as they could given many constraints.

I felt okay at first about the fresh take on the preliminary competition, BUT when I saw pictures from the Miss Universe Puerto Rico preliminary competition today, my heart sank because they had such an excellent production. The ladies looked great and everything looked like Miss Universe level! Puerto Rico is a small country compared to the Philippines and they were able to pull it off. I just wish we had a better prelim production.

Di ba creative director si Jonas? Asan na ung pagiging creative nya? Actually that was my take also.

I think because of restrictions in Philippines that they were not able to decorate the area. We'll they still need to travel the materials from Manila to the location.

Maybe there is no hardwork, only surgeries ?

I guess you can't win them all. I still have to see a production that is successful in both departments: in person and
how it was translated into film. Winning the best of both worlds are few and far between.

They are very rare and do not happen very often.

Thumbs up to MUPh for managing to get a venue that agreed to host such a large gathering of people, and to ferry everyone to such an outstation venue. I'm not in the Philippines, but I'm aware how tough the quarantine situation has been for everyone.

The pandemic war is still raging. Yet I'm given a show to behold, with men and women risking their lives in public exposure. Can't complain.

Looking forward to the finals tomorrow. I've seen photos of a stage being constructed. It does look promising.

Maganda ang airport but not as a pageqnt venue. Cguro mganda sya for fashion shows gaya ng ginagawa ng mga big labels such as chanel gucci et al.

Looking back, I cringed at those negative comments emanating from the putrid mouth of the disgruntled followers, not necessarily fans of MUPh or of these girls, who had a mouthful to say and owing largely to a lack of factual information as to what was planned and later on finalized by the movers-and-shakers within the MUPh Org. Words can hurt. All those baseless speculations and toxic diatribes were documented in print in these pages. And even if those wounds were healed over time, they leave an indelible mark in the consciousness of those who were rendered helpless in the vilification campaign by the crabs who have nothing encouraging to say nor anything to contribute to the effort done by the organizers and the delegates in the midst of this pandemic.

Kala ko dahil sa experience nya last year (Where no Bb. Pilipinas & no Miss World Philippines) he will have an edge to stage his second MUP. Hmmmmm
Makikita natin bukas if makakabawi cya.

Best design for airport yes
pero naman, pageant to, the prelim videos will be played by the fans over and over, over the years to come, tapos bare airport lang.

I am sure, they can outsource that sa Pampanga, may mga event companies or even wedding planning coordinators here who can stage who can help.

Kahit table man lang for the judges, ano yun, they are writing the scores sa laps nila?

When you have recognizable Brand
You will have all kind of fans
Hardcore fans or not, MUP is a known brand

Critiques will be left and right, pageant fans or not, that is why you have to production that will please not everybody but at least as many as they could.
Praying sa finals night!

Takes two to tango. I'm sure there was a compromise and I'd say BCDA LIPAD has the upper hand. Kung papayagan, one thing will lead to another. ke bago bagong terminal concourse tiltig agad? (I deplaned at Clark Int'l in the final leg of my trip from London via DXB to Cebu Mactan and finally on to Clark.) I gawked at the fine additions to the interior of the terminal having seen and worked for years at what once was touted as the largest airport of its kind in the world.

I think it is really true that they are having financial problems. That is the only reason that I can see why they cannot pull off a great production. I can't help but notice that when they announced their supposed sponsors after the preliminary competition, they were reading most of them as "partners" and not as "sponsors". Despite a number of partners and sponsors, I think the flow of money into the organization is dwindling.

Pros

1. Camera angels are okay, we see drone shots which we don't have last year
2. Using the airport is innovative, not the best venue but not at all bad. I appreciate it allowed girls to have long catwalk area
3. Uniformity of swimsuits, though there were 1-piece and two-piece options it is still cohesive and not all over the place. Also same shoe designs were used by all girls

Cons

1. Entitled fans who can't be pleased

Overall, it was a breath of fresh air conducting the prelims in an unusual venue. I also like the short prelims in hindsight, just seeing the girls' performance. Free from long intro's of thanking sponsors, cheesy production numbers of B-grade music artists and performers. It focused on the girls...

While it is okay to expect pageants a grandeur event, one has to consider the current state. Let's not compare with Puerto Rico and Thailand being able to stage glossy productions. Their governments had better response to the covid, PH don't have - both effective governance and better pandemic response...

Just be thankful you still have content to see, to comment on, to lambast the org etc...

Great production would mean a great show with a great backdrop. A panel of judges. A proper dressing room/waiting area for the ladies. No masking tape-lined runway for the ladies.

What do you mean by "great production"?

Are you really convinced it's possible to do all of those pre-pandemic things at these times, when contractors and suppliers can't even move cargo across towns and cities without having to get the necessary permits?

Moreover, I'm so sure MUPh would have staged this much earlier if the deals with their sponsorship and prize donor partners have been sealed much earlier. Marketing budgets keep getting cut these days--it would have been such a challenge for MUPh's sales team to close deals much earlier. It's to our advantage that GMA and ABS-CBN managed to agree to something whose ROI remains questionable during the pandemic season. That's big moolah coming in.

Yup. Let's hope this craziness around the world ends as soon as possible. It's flattening everyone's way forward.

Using the airport facilities as the venue for MUP's swimwear and gown preliminary competition is the first of its kind,
in Philippine pageantry and whoever concocted this idea is becoming the latest internet pariah and is being castigated
and reduced to smithereens by avid diehards and fans who were not used to this kind of set-up.

Not that I am defending MUP, but I think I saw some readings that this is not the first time this oddball idea was employed.
This is a "minimalist" concept and the idea is to strip everything down (in the airport) to its essential quality and achieve
simplicity. The idea is not completely without ornamentation, and that's the reason why the airport looked too bare for
comfort especially to the fans whose idea of watching this kind of competition is on the stage with plush and showy ornaments,
lighting, and pyrotechnics.

The idea is to use a venue (in this case the airport) and recycle it sans elaborate decorations, trimmings, and garnishing.
Can you imagine if other beauty organizations will follow suit and use open public spaces as their stage like for instance
the San Juanico bridge, the sidewalk of Tondo, or an LRT ride from Recto to Cubao? If I remember it right, I thought
Bb. Pilipinas has already employed this scheme before when beauties paraded their gowns inside the mall using the escalator
as their stage.

Tita Lavinia even added Michael Cors stage his most recent fashion show in the garden, and Jacques Moos the French designer
staged his show at the cornfield complete with a red carpet, and Chanel has already made his own in places unimaginable
and unthinkable.

I don't want to be an apologist for MUP, but with the current pandemic situations, or maybe some time constraints or
budget constraints, or whatever constraints there are, let us give this one to them. We don't know what is going on behind
the scene, and for all it's worth, let's thank them for their effort.

We are here enjoying the comfort of our living rooms, and with popcorn in one hand and a soda on the other, we watch
for the next big thing to happen without knowing how the staff sweats to make both ends meet and how they work their butt
off to give us a good show.
