Wasted Beauty; Antigua and Barbuda 2005

Every year it seems that some girls miss the cut. It is often a head scratchier. I missed the cut every year when I competed for Miss Mississippi USA except I did win Miss Congeniality one year. Anyway, why do you think this Caribbean Goddess missed the cut in 2005? I just watched her performances on Youtube and she had wonderful stage presence. Her closeup video was personable and she came off as likeable. If I recall that year T&T did place. She was nowhere near the level of beauty of this girl. So what are your thoughts? Why do you think Antigua and Barbuda missed the cut in 2005?

MAYBE SASH FACTOR,OR INTERVIEW NOT WOW,TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO WAS A GREAT POWERHOUSE BEFORE.
MISS UNIVERSE LEBANON IN 2005 WAS REALLY STUNNING AND GREAT DELEGATE IN THAT TIME,SHE WAS BETWEEN THE BEST DELEGATES,NOW SHE IS A GREAT ACTRESS.

Trinidad had a sash factor back in that era and well Magdalene Walcott was not facially as pretty as Antigua she was a pageant veteran. Finalist at Miss World and Miss Universe. Sadly the smaller Caribbean countries need some coaching.

I remember rooting for her at Miss Universe. We can only speculate what happened and why she clapped that year. I wish they live stream the preliminary interviews as well like in Miss Earth.

My speculation is she actually placed in the top 15 but have to be replaced by one of Trump choices. They always say "Prior to our show, a separate panel of judges viewed all of our contestants in a preliminary competition. Their votes along with the members of Miss Universe Organization determined who will make tonight's first cut".

Miss Universe 2005 had a few PLAIN JANES :zzz placing that year.........example, USA (for obvious reasons) 8-| :;| and South Africa.

SOOOOOOOOOOO........It AMAZES me how hung up most of y'all are ONLY over Miss Trinidad & Tobago placing that year. /:)

I know there was an.........ONLY 1 (BLACK WOMAN QUOTA) to fill that 1 COVETED spot the top 15 :#)]

but JEEZEEEE some of you on this forum always went out of your way to to make it so obvious and it's NEVER changed with the mindset that ONLY 1 black woman can or should place at the expense of another :|
AND YES I am going there with the race talk, which makes many uncomfortable........yeah I'm looking at y'all who'll deflect by saying it's NOT about that.

Hell ANTIGUA & BARBUDA was GORGEOUS :7 :7 and I wished she placed!!!!!!! I always remembered how stunning she was 8->

IMO she was ROBBED and......... yes she is OBVIOUSLY FACIALLY superior to T&T BUT also more beautiful when compared to OTHER CONTESTANTS, who placed in that TOP 15 to, who also had the UPPER HAND with the Sash Factor EFFECT. :-j :-j :-j
So STOP acting as if some of the other girls who placed DID NOT have sash factor advantage on their side to.

I never thought Magdelene was stunning :#)] I HATED the way she was styled that year. That dress was an orange MESS. :-&
I was not surprised that she did not advance further in the competition BUT.......you have a point about MAGGIE being a pageant veteran.

Still pissed that Cheryl Ankrah's LAZY A$$ was dethroned..............she had soooo much potential and let it go to waste all because she did not want to work on her body and put in the rest of the hard work that's required to be at your best for an international pageant.......especially one that's big as Miss Universe. [-X [-X

Miss USA could have gotten away with being BIG.......by pageant standards :| :-j but NO WAY in hell could T&T get away with that.

Oh hun don't play the race card with me. The only person making anything about race would be you. I mean the ones you point out as being plane janes are Miss USA and South Africa whom are both white? Miss USA did not deserve to be up there as she looked awkward on stage. Miss South Africa however deserved her placement. You might want to go back and research the pageant archives. She was listed as a font runner on many lists.

If I recall there was only one Asian that year too. So does that meant that they had a 1 Asian quota for the year? Don't give me your bull crap about race with T&T. The country was brought up because it is in the Caribbean like Antigua and Barbuda. The Caribbean place should have been reserved for Antigua and Barbuda. And don't even bring up that I forgot to mention Puerto Rico as being in the Caribbean as well. I did not bring them up because their placement is a given.

Next time you want to whine about the race card please have some merit to it. Do not just start babbling at the mouth. Thank you and Bye for now.

There should not be any reserve spots so your statement really does not make sense. The sash factor thing is annoying because underserving placements happen constantly and Miss Univers at the time was not regional so not sure why there should only be one spot for the Caribbean.

I did not mean it as a regional spot. I meant the only Caribbean nation placing back then was T&T. They were a popular sash back then. So, yes sash factor does matter. Don’t debate me on Universe. You will lose.

Plain Jane INONESYA was a joke. Never in this lifetime will it be understandable why she placed and her finals gown looked like an old & overused rag. 8-} 8-} 8-}

Shermain Jeremy won the Talent fast track at Miss World 2004 but the selection of Miss World 2004 was based on popularity votes rather than the merits of the competition by the judges. So we don't know how potential Shermain was during the time at Miss World 2004 solely based on regular voters & pageant fans' mind but she failed to made it to the Final 5.

Things different at Miss Universe, as I said two different pageants two different standards in choosing the winner. Maybe Miss Antigua & Barbuda Org. was too complacent that Shermain would impressed the preliminary judges and MUO to make it to the Top 15 but she ended up as clapper. Maybe the reason why lots of Miss World placers later ended up as Miss Universe clappers due to the influence of MUO votes but Ada Dela Cruz, Yendi Phillips, Patricia Rodriguez, Olivia Jordan, Catriona Gray, Maeva Coucke, Andrea Meza & Julia Gama made the cut at Miss Universe despite they were placed at Miss World before due strong sash?

USA and South Africa were BOTH PLAIN JANES :zzz
With more EMPHASIS on USA who (in MY OPINION) DID NOT deserve her placement but she's American so her placement was expected,.....SO STOP WITH THE SASH FACTOR ARGUMENT SINCE THIS GIRL BENEFITED FROM HER USA SASH as well. :#)]

YOU MIGHT WANT TO GO BACK AND READ YOUR ORGINAL COMMENT WHICH SPARKED THIS DISCUSSION I PRESENTED........You're telling me I chose to focus on 2 'white girls'

YET you chose to FOCUS on 2 BLACK GIRLS to compare why 1 got a placement and the other did NOT. and you're telling me not to pull the race card? LOL!! :-j

ASIAN contestants do NOT count in this argument because this was NOT originally part of YOUR discussion/ISSUE presented here. :|

ALSO since you want to talk about MY comment lacking MERIT, in SUPPORT of YOUR ARGUMENT about bringing up and COMPARING T&T & A&B......IT MAKES NO SENSE.
Puerto Rico and Dominican Rep are CARIBBEAN islands.

The ONLY differences BETWEEN those (PR & DR) and (T&T and A&B) is the LANGUAGE spoken and the CARICOM connection :-j And 'It's a GIVEN that PR would place,' is a poor argument as well :;| But she deserved to win IMO.

Some of them do this nonsense all the time and it's easy to spot it.........but then they come with the (stop pulling the race card argument) EVERY TIME. And I won't be surprised if MORE jump on the bandwagon with this argument as a DEFENSE.

They also do the COMPARE the (best Asian) to and think everyone will be clueless.........and it's MORE than just a geographically regional comparison, which is one of the MOST common/OLD arguments.

Anway......I liked Puerto Rico WAYYYY more than Canada (beautywise). :| But Canada's performance was great overall so she deserves credit.

Miss Antigua and Barbuda made it to the Top 15 at Miss World because she won Talent fast track but she did not make it to the Final 5 because the selection of Miss World 2004 was based on the popular votes from the pageant fans & non-pageant minded voters rather than votes from Madam Julia & the judges. At Miss Universe 2005, she was judged by the preliminary judges and MUO but she was unable to pull Miss Turks and Caicos' stellar performance at Miss Universe 1987 and she was unable to secure votes from MUO staff, so she ended up as clapper at Miss Universe 2005.
