I think your research was not accurate for Indonesia.
It is true the Internet (Wikipedia or whatever your source is) stated that Indonesia started to send its delegate as early as 1976.
But due to our strict government rule (at that time), our ladies more likely acted as the observant contestants/guests instead of as real contestants. We sent 7 observant/guests since 1976-1995. Most of those ladies were hand picked (Some of us even did not know their looks back then or now, their vital information).
In 1992, Yayasan Puteri Indonesia Foundation under Mustika Ratu Cosmetics bought Miss Universe License (we did not know from who). The foundation started to have a National Puteri Indonesia Contest at that year. Back then, the Ministry of woman strongly disapprove the contests. The 1995 & 1996 winners again went to the Miss Universe contest as the guest/observant.
In 2005, we started to sending the real contestant, Artika Sari Devi. Even at that time most Indonesian still protested her participant. So it is not true that Indonesia has 33 years drought or whatever your call it.
Our Ambassador, Mr. November Rain, might correct my facts. Thank you for your attention.
