Yeoh, who earned the trophy for her acclaimed performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” has also entered the history books for becoming the first Malaysian-born performer to be honored with a best actress Oscar.

Yeoh is the fifth person of Asian descent to win an Oscar in an acting category and the first to win in a lead acting category.

“For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof to dream big and dreams do come true,” Yeoh gushed while accepting her Oscar.

She added: “Ladies, don’t let anybody tell you you’re ever past your prime.”

Yeoh dedicated her Oscar to her mother, and “all the moms in the world, because they
really are the superheroes and without them none of us would be here tonight.”

In “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Michelle Yeoh portrayed Evelyn Wang, a beleaguered Asian American immigrant who runs a laundromat and is confronted with the staggering prospect of infinite possible lives as part of the multiverse. As she navigates this bizarre new terrain and gains exceptional new powers, she must come to terms with rifts within her family that ultimately pose a grave existential threat – all while also facing a tax audit.

Upon learning of her history-making nomination for the film in January, Yeoh told The Hollywood Reporter that “it’s taken a long time. But I think this is more than me.” She also mentioned that constantly, “Asians (are) walking up to me saying, ‘You can do it, you’re doing it for us.’ It’s like, ‘I understand. I totally understand.’ All this time, they’ve not been recognized, they’ve not been heard.”

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” also stars Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis, who both won in their respective supporting acting categories on Sunday night.

In total, the film won seven Academy Awards out of 11 nominations, including best picture. Among its other wins,
“Everything Everywhere” clinched best original screenplay and best director for duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Michelle Yeoh's mother cried for joy for her “little princess” while watching from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

“I so love my daughter and she has made Malaysia proud,” Yeoh told a news conference, praising the actor as intelligent and hardworking daughter. “Malaysia Boleh (Malaysia Can)!”

Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng PSM (/joʊ/ YOH; born Yeoh Choo Kheng; Chinese: 楊紫瓊; pinyin: Yáng Zǐqióng.
She was born on 6 August 1962 in Ipoh, Perak, to a Malaysian Chinese family of Hokkien and Cantonese ancestry. Her parents are Janet Yeoh and Yeoh Kian-teik, a lawyer and Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) politician.

She grew up speaking Malay and English, and could not read or write Chinese. She expressed that lack as her “greatest regret” in 2022.
Despite that, she learned to speak Cantonese fluently in the 1980s and some Mandarin in the 2000s.

Yeoh was keen on dance from an early age, beginning ballet at the age of four. She studied at Main Convent Ipoh, an all-girls secondary school, as a primary student.
At the age of 15, she moved with her parents to the United Kingdom, where she was enrolled in an all-girls boarding school.

In 1983, at the age of 20, Yeoh won the ~MISS MALAYSIA WORLD 1983~ title. She was Malaysia’s representative at ~MISS WORLD 1983~ pageant at the Royal Albert Hall in London, England, where she overall placed at the 18th position over 72 delegates from all around the world.

Later that year, she traveled to Australia where she won ~MISS MOOMBA INTERNATIONAL 1984~ pageant.

Yeoh started her film career acting in action and martial arts films, where she did most of her own stunts.

She changed her stage name back to Michelle Yeoh when she started her Hollywood career with “Tomorrow Never Dies” in 1997.
In the 1997 James Bond film, she played Wai Lin opposite star Pierce Brosnan. Brosnan was impressed, describing her as a “wonderful actress” who was “serious and committed about her work”.
He referred to her as a “female James Bond” in reference to her combat abilities. She wanted to perform her own stunts but was prevented because director Roger Spottiswoode considered it too dangerous. Nevertheless, she performed all of her own fighting scenes.

In 2008, Yeoh married with Jean Todt, then the general manager and CEO of Scuderia Ferrari and later the president of the FIA.
They lives in Geneva, Switzerland.

I actually saw the movie .

It’s shockingly a cheap sci-fi movie ( in a good way ) .
With Avatar Way of the Water , Top Gun Maverick and other huge gargantuan budgeted movies ....it’s a breath of fresh air .
At the beginning of the movie , the acting were terrible except maybe Ke Huy Quan who early on transformed into Jacky Chan and Jamie Lee Curtis as Deidre IRS lady .
It’s a confusing cheap movie at the beginning till the middle part . There’s nothing spectacular about the futuristic multiverse costumes ... but when the drama kicked in ... then you know why it swept all the acting awards they were nominated on .
And on top of it ...Michelle Yeoh ( who is 60 years old ) and Jamie Lee Curtis ( who is 65 years old ) all did their action sequences .it’s amazing to watch and highly entertaining.
Ke Huy Quan was a huge revelation.... he can do heavy drama .
It’s a philosophical heavy drama movie which as we all know is a kiss of death in any movie ... but the directors ( the Daniels ) were able to pull it off .
The supporting cast was superb including the Ratatouille ( Raccoontouille) guy , the big nose lady (gosh the girl can fight . Her fighting sequence using her dog is the most hilarious me think ) , the old guy on the wheelchair etc .
How on earth they were able to find these very talented people and able to put them in an ensemble ?
Watch it .... it’s different , original movie and most importantly.. highly entertaining.
And oh ... the butt plug trophies that Deidre proudly bragged on her table ...totally gross humor but it’s so freak’n hilarious. How they were able to make it work ? I’m so sure the Oscars judges were shocked . Ha ha . They shrugged it off because there’s a multiverse thing going on .
