I hope that there will be no host country this year. I hope that the National Directors will be awakened and drop the pathetic franchise.
This pageant will flop this year and will die soon.

If I am Julia, I would move the venue as soon as possible.

I don't know if it's a general feeling of hatred towards Islam and Indonesia having the biggest number of Muslim people or just lame jealousy... I just think that many of you don't know what Indonesia looks like don't know anything abt the culture or the people.

Now I recalled the thread: it's entitled "Indonesia to Host Ms World & Ms U 2013" dated Jan 20th Sunday edition at Misso. The thread was penned by "jmgemini" and there was a heated debate as to the pros and the cons of Indonesia hosting the annual pageants respectively. It's most ardent respondent was a Adrian Klemman and Ms S. who were trying really hard to convince the readers that Indonesia can mount and host the pageants succeessfully.
Adrian Klemann wrote:you guys need to relax, and I'm wondering why some people here talk like they know Indonesia better than its native? and describing Indonesia like the home for extremist, really?
FYI Balinese more than ready to welcome Miss World contestants, how do I know? because I am Balinese, and I can feel the atmosphere when I go back to my home province. It's really sickening how people react negatively about this issue, Indonesia is the best place to host this pageant that's why we won the bidding last year.
no amount of rantings and immature complains can turn us down

You have a point but you can't blame people for overreacting with some of the things we hear about everyday. The people in charge seem to have it under control, the press has a way of blowing thing out of proportion.

I'm not at all familiar with the politics in Indonesia but a friend of mine who is told me today that the Indonesian government has become much more conservative in recent years and is heavily influenced by right wing political groups. The political climate there isn't as rosy as some here want us to believe.

You don't know that Islam just came in Indonesia very recently and that Indonesian Islam is influenced by local animism and layered previous religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism. It is a much more complex country than any other in Southeast Asia, diverse and rich: more languages, heritage, culture, ethnic groups spread in 17000 islands. It is a new democracy with a thriving civil society and an open public sphere where one can freely express itself. Economically, it has the 5th highest GDP per capita in SEA just behind Thailand and above Philippines. It has one of the most important middle class in Asia and is a member of the G20.
I'm sorry but many of you sound like uneducated and uncritical persons full of stereotypes who satisfy themselves with vulgarized ideas from the media... I think Miss W should be seen as a chance for a country like Indonesia to show that it is capable of hosting this kind of event (not everyone have to like it) even if it has to compromise on certain things. it is disappointing for many of us that there ain't gonna be bikinis this year but why can't people just wish for the best to happen and not the worst? Why being so negative?
Anyway thx for reading if you did, don't even know if people can be receptive to this anyway...
