Abolishing height requirement, good or bad?

Postby ajsy0203 » Thu Jul 14, 2022 1:03 pm

As we getting closer to reveal the Top 20. Some of the girls' height are below the minimum height requirement of 5 ft 4 in. These girls' dream of becoming the next MPE and Miss Earth were crushed. Now do you think the height requirements should be abolished in the next edition of MPE and Miss Earth?

At least 5'5 but they all need to wear 3 inches high heels eternally to compensate for being short. It's a beauty pageant where height and weight is very important to deal with random people who judges people indiscriminately with their prying eyes.

This issue just made the local news. Wonder if Carousel will stand behind their decision or bend to pageant fans will.

Pageants nowadays are evolving to be more inclusive of beauties of all shapes and sizes, I think it's time for the height requirement to be abolished.

You can't just abolish right here and there but you need a rationale or justification why you have to do such. There should be certain requirements vigorously because it's a competition just like in The Olympics when you aim to be higher, faster or stronger or else Sporting Events like Chess, Billiards, Bowling doesn't fit that requirement so they are not included in the Olympics. On the other hand, As what Steve Harvey have said, the ladies can't be weary, tired or sickly because immediately They'll be out of The Competition. In a beauty contest, the girls need to be fit, smart, charming and beautiful to win the contest. Therefore, 5 feet 5 inches tall barefoot is a beauty contest for Miss Teen USA or Little Miss Philippines of EAT Bulaga. As the name implies, LITTLE or TEEN.

Personally, I prefer a taller Queen so she could command more attention when in a room of full of people. I want her to be more imposing. So I’m fine with the 5’4 minimum height requirement.

Imagine a 5 foot Queen. She would get lost in a crowd. :-D

She was actually around 5’2. Rather than sending her home, Carousel informed her that she can continue with the pre pageant activities since she’s already in the Philippines. She just won’t be able to qualify for the semifinals. I guess the org wanted her to save face. But she chose to go home instead so she left halfway through the competition from what I can remember.

Aside from body shaming there is another aspect of body-related prejudice that we turn a blind eye to.
This is none other than heightism – the discrimination against individuals based on their heights.

Height is a standard that entraps everyone in a beauty contest. To them, height connotes, beauty, self-confidence,
intelligence and even her presence can be domineering and imposing to some which is a plus point. Although we
can compartmentalize these terms and say outright each one of them that one is different from the other, sadly to
some ... height can becloud or befog anyone into believing that one is better than the other without considering the
face value, and personality for as long as the height is there ... may nanalo na.

I really don't care if the person is 6 feet tall ,,, if something is lacking in the looks department or the intelligence
is dubious and indeterminate, I will not give her the "green light"

I agree that rules are rules, and since the beginning, it has always been one of Carousel's requirements. They don't have to change that. However, Carousel took a LONG WHILE to verify whether the ladies are really 5'4''. They have been to sponsor shoots together as seen on the MPE Page. From then on, they could have started checking already. It's a waste of effort, money, and time on the delegate's part.

At the end of the day…these women took their chances by entering the wrong heights. Perhaps they thought the org would trust the information they submitted fully. Unfortunately for them, the org found out eventually. Since they engaged in deception, they have no right to complain.

And if they were really ignorant of their real heights, then that’s on them. And now that they know what their real heights are, they should just put their big boy pants on and find another pageant that allows shorter women. As per MEC…just stop playing the victim card.

Okay, but was there no effort earlier on for Carousel to check? They should have screened the applicants on the most vital requirements. What's disappointing here is that the delegates accepted that it is their mistake, whether intentional or not, but there was no accountability from Carousel's end that they failed to do their end of verifying the information given to them. Bb. Pilipinas screens the candidates thoroughly on citizenship and other vital requirements. Most of them are taken out of the competition weeks after the competition started. Had this been done by Carousel early on, those 3 delegates would not have wasted their resources in the first place.

I'll stop here. I hope this never happens again. Miss Philippines Earth is losing their grip and relevance in Philippine Pageantry. They should do better.

I didn't say that the camp of the delegates in question does not have any fault in this. We do not know what their intentions are. Regardless if it is an honest mistake (one of the delegates thought all along that she was 5'4", only to be verified that she is 5'3.5"), or an intentional one, Carousel should still have verified EARLY ON.

Yes, fraud in all forms should not be tolerated. So as mismanagement. When we see one, we should call it out.

Also, my font color doesn't reflect the politician I support. It's just something that I use way back.

Valid point. But do not ignore the fact that someone lied and hoped na di mahuli. Tsk tsk tsk. Fraud in all forms should not be tolerated. Pinoy talaga. Kaya di umaasenso. Magnanakaw nga ginawang Presidente.

Sa dulo naman, mahuhuli pa rin ang mga nagsinungaling - intentional or not.

They trusted that the provided info in the application are truthful. If it is not virtual application, they could have automatically verified each girl's height coz I read that during the screening, there is an actual measurement of height. Too bad that it was not face to face. I think, the org just trusted them and we expect every delegate to be truthful on the info they are providing the org.

— TOTALLY AGREE 101%

Well, Pia Worstbach also lied on her height because she said early on in many interviews that she is 5'8", 5'7" lang pala ang animal. Maybe she counted the height of her boobs that's why she think she is 5'8'. Mandaraya siya. One inch difference is nothing compare to being first runner for a few minutes when in fact she turned out to be a winner. Her moment was stolen big time.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the real competition will start only with the top 20, so technically all of them are still undergoing through the screening process, right?
enjoy and have fun

you easily forgot that Bb. Pilipinas made a couple of mistake back then: Joyce burton, Tisha Silang, Anjanette Abayari and why did you forget Venus Raj easily? LOL

Let's say Bb. Pilipinas learned from their mistakes before but those were several mistakes mind you

Even Sandra Seifert, the fronttunner and touted to win the Universe title, she was kick-out the competition 2 days before the coronation night.

Remember the issue of Samantha Lo's questionable Philippine passport was discovered when she tried to fly from Paris to Caracas for the controversial pageant.

why did she fake her height?
If everyone can be a beauty queen, what is hardwork?
Maybe there is no hardwork, only surgeries ?

I think lang she did not fake it...three scenarios perhaps:

1. they just rounded it off upward. As per google: If the number you are rounding is followed by 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9, round the number up. So her height could be 5'3.5" so rounded up to 5'4".

2. She had bun hair style during measurement, lugay na ang buhok when Carousel measured her height physically.

3. Ruler or measuring tool is uncalibrated or worst sira na.

Bahala na kayo mamili.
