BB 24 La Union
Carina Carino
La Union is a coastal province known for being the Surfing Capital of the North. This costume represents the effervescent, fluid waves of its shores and the abundance of the sea that provides and sustains its people.
Home to three Marian shrines and a Taoist temple of a sea goddess, the province is portrayed in this national costume as a water deity emerging from the sea. The material of the silver terno replicates the nets that aid fishermen and the shell casts an illusion of moving waves, imitating the rhythmic waters people long to see when going to Elyu.

“PAGLALAKBAY”
(Notes from the designer)
The Vinta is a traditional sailboat inspired by the Moro and Sama-Bajau tribe. It’s a Philippine symbol that signifies migration and the colourful traditions from the island of Mindanao.
This art is exhibited through their textiles that explode in vibrant colours, which are found in the sail of a vinta. The colors used in every line represent the rich culture and history of the Muslim people.
Aside from it’s colorful patterns, each vinta also represents a family or clan. The traditional outrigger boat doubles as their home and a means to transport goods and to travel to different lands. As children of OFW parents, I saw it fitting that the vinta symbolizes the sacrifices overseas Filipino workers go through, to provide livelihood for their families.
The vinta is a Philippine icon. In this design is a story of the ingenuity of the Filipino people–a symbol of courage, hope, and resilience that lies within our nation.

Hazel Ortiz
Notes from the award winning national costume designer, Edwin Uy
The costume of Bb. Candidate 14 Hazel Ortiz shows 2 looks, a Filipiniana gown which transforms into an ethnic tribal warrior.
Both looks depict our culture and History from 2 different times. It is also a symbolism of a modern Filipino woman who has 2 major characteristics, modest but at the same time, a fighter as Filipino women nowadays are more independent and can even match or outwit any men in terms of achievements yet their modesty has always been one of their major distict quality.

Amakan
(Notes from the designers)
The gown is a culture-oriented inspired piece from a fused artistry of “amakan" a hiligaynon word which is used to dry rice in the rural area of Pototan at the same time, honoring the annual Festival of Lights or popularly known as Iwag Festival.
Pototan is considered as the rice granary of Panay. The rice cut precious stones symbolize the abundance of rice in the municipality. The fabric was cut into pieces and weaved, to create an "amakan.”
Apart from being the rice granary of the region, Iloilo is also known as the Christmas Capital of the Visayas, with its lovely Christmas lights that lit up the entire city court each December. The entire community gathers to experience and appreciate the celebration.
Prosperity and festivity, Pototan, Iloilo.

The Goddess of Pearls
(Notes from the designer)
The costume is purely inspired by the national jewels of Palawan, the Palawan Pearls. We refer to the costume as "The Goddess of Pearls”
Just to give you a trivia, pearl diving has been a significant economic activity in Palawan. In 1934, they produced the world’s largest pearl which was measured by 9.4 inches.
The crown/headdress symbolises grandeur and power which was made up of hundreds of faux pearls.
The backdress which is inspired from Taklobo or Giant Pearl was hand-made from yantok and embelished with white pearls and gemstones. These represent the treasures of the sea.
Samatha's bodysuit were covered by fabric foam, stones and pearls to symbolize the purity, generosity, and loyalty of its wearer. They are believed to attract wealth and luck as well as offer protection.

Lakambini ng Himagsikan
(Notes from the designer)

Yup, that's what I see happening - probably, they'll be back to their usual 20-30 candidate average, not the 40 or 50 being reached now. I honestly think that their spinning-out of Miss Universe Philippines was a good decision because the girls can focus more on Miss Universe and not those other pageants.Sapphire wrote:I feel like covid-19 was the nail in the coffin for Binibini.
To be honest, I think now that Miss Universe is out, Bb Pilipinas will revert back to what it was like in the early 2000's in terms of popularity... it'll still be around but not quite the same impact as 2011-2019!
