MU2020: Competition of Appointed Girls

Postby sephie » Sat Apr 11, 2020 8:13 am

I think that there is news that 1ru from 2019 may be allowed to compete in Miss Universe this year. If this is true, I don't think this is limited to just 1ru but that is a choice a country can make. This being said, I think we should just allow NDs to appoint a contestant and not based it on last year's performance given the following points (1) some countries have preselected their national contestants (2) a handful of countries have winners already (3) some countries have new franchise holders. MUO can just make the rules flexible for next year

Given that, I can expect MUO to actually cut cost (more) this year since things will be rushly planned and not a lot of companies can sponsor.
Im still hoping they can make it a good staging of the contest by ....

a. Tyler Perry studios but make the stage amazing
b. Improve then gloss of the competition (by sticking to reputable brands)- Stuart Weitzman shoes, Oscar Dela Renta swimsuit and Roberto Cavalli/ Tadashi opening dress
c. Authentic and Real Styling- gone are overly made girls; people want to see the real woman
d. Change advocacy- it is no longer about HIV/ Aids. Make the show for the benefit of Covid 19- research

Oscar de la Renta? Roberto Cavalli?
MUO barely even take Glam Shots these days and you want high end designers!?!

This can be through the same arrangements they had from before. All of these designers have worked with Miss Universe.
Roberto Cavalli sponsored the opening dress during MU2000 in Cyprus. Tadashi was sponsoring the contest opening dress until Sherri Hill came in.

This is actually one comment I always hear from normal people watching the pageant, especially from normal girls, they think the make-up at Miss Universe is making the girls look too fake especially the contouring, etc..

and aged! most of them look older than their actual age. I do understand stage make up and how it should be visible to the farthest seat from the stage but I think priority should be TV since that is remembered by the common audience.
The styling is just horrible and I think this is cultural. Most latin countries prefer this look - glam make up compared to Europe that is more natural.

MUO was very relevant when they sponsored the pageant. The title holders were constantly on tv and attending red carpet events. Now a days MUO is a thing of the past and no longer relevant to the major media. Just because a lot of people follow doesnt mean its relevant. MUO use to have their titleholders do Commercials, tv show guest rolls, campaign ads in
the US and constantly had them doing tv interviews and traveling the world. That no longer happens, the only time they do tv interviews is when they win and when they're going to pass the crown. Brands will sponsor only if they get a chance to have their merchandise promoted on many platforms, MUO can only promise FB Live. Trump built an empire and IMG destroyed it, Trump helped when he began running as President, but it still could've been restored.

Things were going downhill even before IMG took over. Trump could not even negotiate to have host countries till last minute hence it was becoming a Vegas show. Most of the second rate sponsors they have like Sherri Hill came on during the Trump years, Paula Shuggart is still the president. TV ratings were tanking. Trump almost ruined the brand due to his racism towards Mexican at the start of his Presidential candidacy.

IMG is just trying to broaden their base and be more inclusive in Hope's of keeping things floating because Trump seemed to only care about the latin market. Pageants will never have the same relevance as they did decades ago and you can't blame the current organization for that.

The MUO is bankrupt. Expect no pageant this year.

With American Idol and the voice have contestants performing at home. Imagine a pageant where judges and contestants are at home.

As long as the pageant doesn’t go the route it did last year, crowning a very lame-ass, ugly Miss Universe just to meet some all-black diversity (ha!) agenda in the lamest production ever, this situation should pose as an opportunity to be creative — and might just become more interesting if the organization rises up to the challenge.
