Where was he during Demi Leigh’s and Catriona’s reigns?
The lackluster reigns have been ongoing for few years now.

Why just talk about now?

I don’t think he cared about previous Miss Universe queens until this current one.
That’s a problem right there!

Catriona managed to step up her reign, many times on her own!

Which is why it is absurd for MUO to claim that they're looking for a spokesperson. As soon as they find their "spokesperson" they press the mute button on her, and you hardly see or hear about her again until the next Miss Universe season. How exactly do you empower women by making their "spokesperson" voiceless and invisible? Miss Universe has become a farce.

I do not want the most prestigious beauty contest in the entire universe ends but instead the current owners to end their ties with MUO.

Nothing's permanent in this world, Ms U / MUO is no exception. Everything that comes up will somehow go down eventually. The cycle of life comes full circle, then expires, what else!

If they are coming to an end but still they can save it for a year or so. Put the swimsuit competition right after they announce the top 20. Most of the candidates have oozing sex appeal and they can pull a lot of viewership then sponsorships.

Few years back pageant fans were questioning the change in Miss World, how it got boring year on year, But the reality is MWO had the vision already on how to make MW relevant. Thus, we observed the pageant become less glamourous, no swimsuit round and they focused more on charity works. This is where MUO has been struggling at the moment on how to stay relevant.

No hype in Miss Universe as of now. I hope they bring back the old format wherein there is no declamation speech at the start.

TOP 5 QUESTION AND ANSWER

ALSO PERFORMANCE FROM RENOWNED ARTISTS, NOT JUST TRYING HARD, SO-SO PERFORMERS.

You mean the old format of having 12 semifinalists and have them compete in three rounds of competitions before a cut to a final 5.

High talent and appearance fee were the factors that prevented the pageant organizers from inviting current high profile artists. No wonder why almost all the international pageant organizers (including MUO and MWO) invited artists from the past.

Re: THE END of Miss Universe?

Postby Jon A » Mon Feb 10, 2020 5:10 pm

With all due respect to some of the comments above, it is not the format of the finale night that is the problem (although I absolutely agree that it is boring AF and could use a change). The core issue with Miss Universe is that it has no identity. It doesn't know what it stands for, so how can anyone else? IMG/MUO as an entity exists for nothing more than to make money. But that is not an identity that a viewing / fan audience can get behind. And therefore ultimately, it is not an identity that can in itself generate money. If Miss Universe means nothing, then it becomes nothing. Right now they are running around in a schizophrenic head jerk - about charity, about empowerment, but then why is she doing juice commercials? Signing up to promote a local version of KFC (talking about Catriona). It is all so confusing.

Miss Universe can be about money and glamor. But they must own it. After all, MW and Miss Universe were the original professional celebrity, the original reality show. Now they have ceded that to the Kardashians and Big Brother. But they have everything to reclaim it if they wish. MW has at least willingly and to good effect redefined (for good or bad is a mater of opinion and priorities) its identity, so it is understood and respected. Miss Universe had better get its act together before it is too late.

And as for SS, honestly, I think that era has gone. The viewing audience for pageants is mostly women, children and gay men. All of whom care <0 about sex appeal. As long as MUO continues to embrace SS as a criterion for evaluating, it will continue its downslide in the mass opinion market (not talking about hardcore pageant fans). The sooner they realize that, the better for them. And they need a selection format that is relevant to the work of the winner. Right now, I almost think that based on what the winner actually does, they should replace the rounds with a SELFIE round, a HAIR CARE demonstration and a press interview.

Just bring back the old format used during Trump Era, the production used to be full of glamour and excitement (esp. from 2003-2008). People aren't spending their time watching a pageant which turns out to be a speech contest

Exactly. Those who criticize pageants...do you think they check out Miss World or Miss Universe whether or not they change their formats and include or remove the swimsuit portion? Hell no, they will complain complain and complain. They want pageants to go away. Nothing else with appease them so MUO should not even bother trying to cater to them. The die hard fans are the ones who will watch regardless but the causal viewer is not going to see some stupid boring pretentious show where women in thousand dollars gowns moan about their sob stories. MUO should stop insulting the fans and the viewers' intelligence and this had gotten progressively worse ever since Steve Harvey became the host.

So true! Why should these orgs care about "protesters" who never watched pageants themselves and just hate and criticize...It should be the viewers and fans that really matter!

After the controversy with the 2015 crowing, the show went downhill. I don't know why they changed the format so many times. The girls keep talking all throughout. It would have been amazing if the winner gets to do TEDTalks and stuff, but the winner just goes to crowning events, CHI endorsements, photoshoots in the streets of NYC, etc.

Trump really had the resources to make Miss Universe glamorous and prolific. IMG is just waiting for the next local networking company to help fund the crowned Miss Universe.

Who knows? Cash-strapped IMG might just decide to not hold a Miss Universe edition ever again, making 2019 the de facto final edition.
