In Miss Universe pageant the role of First runner up is very important. In every crowning the host will always do the spiels with regards to how important her role is, "if the new Miss Universe cannot fulfill her duty the first runner up will take her place". However, in the history of Miss Universe only few countries managed to become the First Runner up after their year as Miss Universe.
These are the countries who almost win a Back-to-Back.
VENEZUELA
Year 1996 - Alicia Machado ( Miss Universe )
Year 1997 - Marena Bencomo ( First Runner up)
COLOMBIA
Year 2014 - Paulina Vega ( Miss Universe )
Year 2015 - Ariadna Gutierrez ( First Runner up )
SOUTH AFRICA
Year 2017 - Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters ( Miss Universe )
Year 2018 - Tamaryn Green ( First Runner up )
These ladies almost fight equally with their predecessors to get the crown. Where in fact in some, winning a first runner up after getting the crown last year is actually a winning moment with them already and a feat on its own. Winning as first runner up is almost winning the crown again. As it was so difficult to score a back-to-back win.
Now the PHILIPPINES as the current title holder has the chance to be on this list of beautiful and equally talented ladies. You had it during Miss Universe 2016, but failed. I hope this year you will be able to do it, if not win a Back-to-Back like in 2008 & 2009 (Venezuela).
