DO YOU KNOW
- that the Miss Earth and Miss Philippines (the progenitor of Miss Philippines Earth/Miss Earth Philippines) had their
formal Press launching on April 03, 2001?
- that the birth of Miss Earth was triggered by a "letter" sent to Carousel Production by a concerned citizen " who suggested that beauty contests (then Mutya ng Pilipinas and Miss Asia Pacific Quest [now MAP International], as handled by Carousel) be converted into cause-oriented projects with "environmental consciousness to save Planet Earth." But since the Carousel’s contract with Mutya-MAPQ wasn’t renewed that year the group decided to launch their own pageant and named it Miss Earth?
- That during the first years of Miss Earth, the following individuals ran the contest: Ramon Monzon (president), with his wife, Lorraine Schuck (herself a Mutya titleholder in 1979), as vice-president. Other officers are Joji Felix Velarde (also vice-president), 1977 Mutya-World Peachy Veneracion (project coordinator), Sofia Velasco (events manager), 1999 Mutya and Queen of the Year Raquel Uy (Peachy’s assistant), 1998 Mutya Rochelle Ong (Sofia’s assistant) and 1999 Mutya Ritchie Ocampo (Lorraine’s assistant)?
- That on its first year, the winner of Miss Earth received US$20, 000.00 on top of other cash and material incentives? That amount has long increased making the Miss Earth winner one of the three highest paid title holders om pageantry.
