MANILA, Philippines — A Chinese woman was arrested after throwing taho (soy pudding) at a policeman detailed at the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) Boni station in Mandaluyong City on Saturday morning.

Police identified the woman as Jiale Zhang, 23.

According to a Facebook post by netizen Pau Mesias, the woman threw her ‘taho’ at Police Officer 1 William Cristobal after she stopped from entering the station.

“Sinita ka dhil bawal n mga DRINKS or any form of liquid sa MRT. Isa kang dayuhan mam, hindi ka mrunong rumespeto sna mahuli ka at ikulong,” Mesias said her post.

The MRT-3 management earlier disallowed commuters from bringing inside the station and trains bottled water and other liquids as directed by the National Region Police Office (NCRPO).

In a text message to INQUIRER.net, NCRPO director Guillermo Eleazar said said he is still waiting for the incident report before possible complaints for disobedience or unjust vexation could be filed against the woman.

The Chinese woman was brought to a police community precinct in Mandaluyong City following the incident.

Oh YES, there are billions of them everywhere in the universe. I don't understand despite their strong cultural traditions and family ties somehow in their VALUES SYSTEM they LACK a lot of emphasis on SENSITIVITY, RESPECT, COURTEOUSNESS, MINDFULNESS, HUMILITY and CONSIDERATION for others. They are very good towards each other, among Chinese people BUT they are INSENSITIVE to other people. Even the younger generations HAVE NO MANNERS in public. They are also VERY GOOD IN COMPLAINING about anything even if they could hardly speak in English. That is why they are very ANNOYING and UNDESIRABLE TOURISTS in the world.

Ugh. Tell me all about it!
The Chinese have got to be the rudest and most undisciplined people ever. They spit everywhere. They’re noisy. They litter like there’s no tomorrow. They push. They shove. They have this inflated sense of self entitlement. And what I fucking HATE the most - they tend to look down on other nationalities.
They’re the exact opposite of Japanese people who are humble and disciplined.
I hate encountering groups of these chinese tourists wherever I go.

Re: Rude Chinese Nationals

Postby Winterbourne » Sat Feb 09, 2019 12:37 pm

The possible reasons for the lack of respect of many Chinese people towards other nationalities, in my opinion, are the following:

1. Their ethnocentric attitude. China is only existing civilization and this durability can be partly attributed to their relative isolation for quite a long period of time. Thousands of years ago, when technology was still less advanced, China was virtually inaccessible to the outside world. It is surrounded by mountains, deserts, and seas/oceans. This fostered culture-centeredness in which they thought that they were the only civilized people. This is the reason why they referred to everyone in the outside world as 'barbarians'. This might explain the apparent 'contempt' they have towards non-Chinese.

2. They are not 'ethnically' homogenous. The term 'Chinese' more appropriately refers to citizenship rather than a single 'ethnic' group. In fact, within China, there are more than 40 nationalities, speaking different languages and practicing a multitude of cultures. When we say 'ancient Chinese' civilization, this generally refers to the Han ethnic group. Some of these ethnic groups are not as 'civilized' as the Han.

3. The "Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution" launched by Mao Zedong in the 1960's destroyed much of the traditional Chinese values based on respect and decorum (Confucian tradition). The 'Cultural Revolution' sought to destroy the 'old and traditional' Chinese Culture and replace them with a Proletarian Culture. Many of the parents of the present generation are products of the Cultural Revolution era.

I've had a bitter experience with some of them particularly the immigration officers at the old Kai Tak in Kowloon. My golly, what attitude they've shown esp to Filipinos coming into and out of the customs and immigration counters and during transit. When I was an OJT in New York City, I also experienced similar situation but in a different setting. It was in a restaurant where jaded guests are regular habitues. Three Chinese tourists came in making undeserved noise and caused a stir because of a misplaced order. I was in the open kitchen by the dining area and I berated two of them venting my anger for the untoward incidents that I came to experience personally in the past. We had the three of them escorted out in an embarrassing exit.

When my daughter and I went to Paris last month, we encountered three Chinese couples at a posh restaurant in Brochant. They were very loud that no other customers wanted to be seated near their table. One couple was old whom I assumed must be the parents of the other two couples. While waiting for their orders to be served, the old woman suddenly coughed so loudly, hawked her phlegm from her throat and spat on the floor! The manager of the restaurant got so angry and must have cussed her quietly. She and the other couples became so belligerent and disrespectful toward the manager. To make the long story short, they were escorted out of the restaurant after the manager called for gendarme to reason with them that they needed to follow the rules of the country they were visiting.

LOOKS LIKE EVERYONE SAID WHAT I WANTED TO SAY.

CHINESE ARE ALSO RUDE WHEN IT COMES TO FREE STUFF - WHENEVER THERE'S ANYTHING FREE THEY WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. SOMEONE WAS GIVING FREE BAGS, AND THEY DID NOT WAIT AND JUST GRABBED FROM THE BOX.

THAT'S WHY I GO TO PLACES WHERE CHINESE DON'T GO. USUALLY LOCAL SHOPS AND RESTAURANTS.

I worked in China for more than a decade; in Shanghai to be precised. Not all Chinese are rude specially in Shanghai. I can say though, in provinces, it's a totally different story. Shanghainese are kind and respectful - at least the younger generation. The older ones, not so much but still, I guess a handful are still polite. About the spitting, being loud, etc., that's correct. They are like that, mostly the older ones and usually from the provinces. I guess one important factor why they seem to not have the proper manner is because they're used to 'survival of the fittest.' It's been their norm since time immemorial.

I have also worked in Shanghai for more than a year before....and all of the people I have worked with are professionals and kind even kinder than most of the Filipinos I know. However, the disgusting behavior of some Chinese citizens like spitting phlegm, rude behavior, and even pickpockets are common in the lower class areas of the city. Unfortunately, I was billeted there on my first 2 months so I have witnessed these behaviors first hand. With China's population becoming more middle class...a lot of those from poorer upbringing are now richer and can afford to travel around the world. Unfortunately, the behaviors are still the same because as they say...you can't buy breeding.

In my city there are so many Chinese people who are very rude and ill-mannered. They cut in front of you while you're waiting for transportation, spit and pick their noses in public, and talk very loudly. I've seen YouTube videos of Chinese tourists defecating and urinating in public. It's disgusting. They are also very cruel towards animals and they eat anything that moves. Gross people.

I'm fortunate to have met and befriended Chinese nationals who are warm, elegant, and humorous, so I wouldn't say that rudeness and arrogance are universal amongst their countrymen.

However, those tourists I've encountered do tend to be loud and impolite. It's possible that these tourists are fellow townsmen who travelled together, so they act as if they were still in the same village in China.

Last November, I was in transit at the Bangkok airport, seated in a common hallway waiting for my flight back to Delhi. Suddenly, a gigantic yell roared through the hallway, and several of us looked at the direction it came from. The same person yelled several times after that. It turned out to be an angry woman screaming for a friend/travel partner who was--take this--AT THE OTHER WING of the airport (read: hundreds of feet away). She was berated by a Thai airport official, and from the angry conversation they made in front of me, I made out that she was a Chinese national.

I only encountered four nice Chinese throughout my life. I hope it grows more.

They have this horrible habit at MOA, wherein they ask anyone remotely Chinese-looking if they are Chinese or of Chinese-descent. I don't mind being labeled as one since I've been mistaken to be Chinese, Korean, Japanese, SEAn, and Latin American (my Chilean friend said that I look Ecuadorian or Mexican or any Latin American with IP mix). But, randomly stalking people and getting near them unceremoniously is so fucking irritating.

Add to their children defecating and peeing everywhere; and insolent attitude. I also hope they take a shower everyday and brush their teeth every after meal. They just fucking smell even if they are wearing Gucci or what-have-you.

5 countries, 7 cities and I have yet to encounter a well-behaved Mainland Chinese tourist. And they seem to like travelling in huge packs so one will have to endure their brashness tenfold. In Hong-Kong we have this running joke where you can easily separate a local from a tourist from the Mainland by how loud they talk.

I don't have a general prejudice against Mainland Chinese. I'm sure a lot of them are hard working, polite, and disciplined individuals. It's just unfortunate that they're getting a bad rep from how some of their fellow countrymen behave when abroad. Because they're all true, all these horror stories we read.

The Chinese do have a reputation of being the worst tourists in the world, but not because they think they’re the center of the universe (Americans have a stronghold on that attitude), but simply because they’re not exposed to the ways of the world: per their country’s communist dictatorship and full control over their educational and social systems, they remain “uncivilized,” to put it simply.

The social violations they commit abroad are not intentional; they just didn’t grow up going through the appropriate international social norming processes. The good news is that those Chinese who’ve been exposed to the behavioral dissonance between their countrymen and the rest of the world (mainly those who have either visited or lived abroad) have started educating their fellow citizens. In fact Chinese tourism officials have started issuing reminders to Chinese international travelers to refrain from engaging in specific behaviors, such as speaking loudly in groups and littering on the streets. These are relatively new efforts, however, so it will take time to catch on.

Do note that this applies only to mainland Chinese. The Taiwanese and HongKongers have major issues with their mainland counterparts’ behaviors as well. In fact HongKong is planning on putting immigration quotas on the mainland since HongKongers think that the continued influx of mainlanders into their special region is ruining their sense of civility.

Yeah. I’ve seen a few videos of Chinese travel guides on YouTube giving Chinese international travelers guidelines on the DOs and DONTs of behaving in certain destinations.

Yeah. I’ve seen a few videos of Chinese travel guides on YouTube giving Chinese international travelers guidelines on the DOs and DONTs of behaving in certain destinations.

Ever saw the viral video of the chinese tourists using their plates to scoop for prawns at the buffet table?
That was hilarious! =;))

was she eating food before boarding the train? I have often brought food inside the subways in new York but of course I don't open and eat it while inside the train or at the platform..it is unclear in the news and videos if she ate food inside the train or at the platform of station

In her case it wouldn’t have mattered whether she was investing the taho or not because in that particular day, they banned all liquids and related items for security reasons.

But yeah, I’m curious as well as to what the restrictions are with regard to open (ready to eat/drink) and sealed containers...

my point is that probably one fourth of the riders brought in food or drinks in subway but were not detected. it is easy for citizens especially foreigners to miss this new ruling.

Which is why Miss China was stopped by the guard in the first place (from the way I understood the entire brouhaha). I probably would have been irked as well due to my ignorance of the new ruling, but instead of throwing the taho in tantrum, I would have given the poor guard a lecture in the finest English speech he would have ever heard. And then I would have flicked my hair and walked off dramatically while the long, annoyed queue that built behind me was cursing me to death. :-j

Went somewhere north for a ski trip early this month. We were waiting for the train, when a Chinese guy threw his girlfriend's phone in the track. They were fighting in loud voices like two children wanting the same toy. Both were chinese btw. We were furious because we were super tired and it would really cause a delay but thanks to the station employee who immediately jumped and went down to get it. The two acted as if nothing happened. Few seconds of silence from both of them as the girl received her phone, they both walked away then started bickering again. They did not even say thank you to the the staff. 3:) :-j
