Graphic creator for Miss Universe 2015-2017, passes away.

Postby HIMEROS » Mon Jan 28, 2019 3:15 pm

The content/graphics creator for Miss Universe from 2015-2017 died on January 26, 2019 by taking his own life. He is named Louie Angelo, a Filipino graphic artist, aged 25 y/o. You may remember him as "fordummies" here in Missosology. Back then, he creates threads of his creations of hotpicks by form of graphic videos which many in the pageant community loved. He is widely known for his talent in graphic making and being a good friend. He also has decent amount of following on his Instagram where his cousin announced that he passed on the said date above. (His Instagram account is private, in order to access it, you need to be given permission to follow the account by the owner which is now deceased or his cousin).

He is responsible for the graphics of the Miss Universe pageant from 2015-2017 (Top 15 announcement, Final look, opening remarks, etc,.) which were highly adored by pageant fans and inspired many people to do what he does.

He was a very kind person, and had a very beautiful soul. He had so many talents and potential.

Please do check on your friends and family if they are going through something. A simple "how are you?" could change everything.

May you rest in peace and harmony, Angelo.

This is sad, his graphics are so polish and well made and I admired him for that. I also remember, way back 2016, that he express his intention to do the graphics for Miss Earth but it was too late because ME already filled that position. Link to the thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=1333362
Rest in peace.

OMG. Siya pala yun. Rest in peace.

Nagmahal. Minahal ko trabaho ko.
Nasaktan. Nasaktan dahil pulitka at sipsip pala ang daan para ma-promote sa work.
Nag-volunteer. Nag-resign ako at sinubukan magpa-tiwakal sa Ayala.

Thanks for sharing, Himeros. I never had the chance to interact with him, but he was gone too soon. Suicidal death is always tough to understand and accept. May his path to the next world be easy. May the pain, confusion, and anguish of those that he left behind be healed soon.

IS SOMETHING THAT ANYONE CAN RELATE TO AND I AM NOT AN EXCEPTION.
I'VE GONE AND GOING THROUGH THE SAME BUT I DO NOT FIND SUICIDE AS THE SOLUTION.

I definitely remember fordummies. I have always admired how slick his graphics were and have made sure he knew I was a fan of his work. Because of Louie (and Kirina) I have tried to elevate my thread making here in Misso to make sure whatever I've produced that the graphics were pretty decent and looked like I somehow made an effort. In that aspect, Louie has inspired me.

What a sad news.

Yes, he is Louie Angelo Salonga, and according to his cousin, he, indeed, committed suicide by hanging. I'm sure he will appreciate all the things you are saying wherever he is now. Please do offer prayers for him. Thank you.

There are many honest to goodness men around the world. But at the same time, they lack social skills in the world of video games. Now, many millenials opt to stay inside and play with computers alone, then they go out and get shocked when facing realities of work and daily life. Coping stresses and everything else is hard for them. Many are protected by families and societies when they grew up and everyday coping is strange to them.

In Japan, half a million of its population choose to stay isolated in the bedrooms at all ages. They are called ‘Hikikomori”. They go into extreme detachment from society with depression. It’s government started to make a survey trying to understand this phenomenon, at the same time they are facing shortage of workers everywhere.

In other countries like the USA and other developed counties, this societal trend is alarming.

Gone were the days when going out in the streets and playing with other kids were the norms of children. Sometimes gossiping is not a bad thing, tsk, tsk LOL as a social skill among adults. Go figure.

I do not know if you intended to post this on a different thread or what. If this is meant to comment on depression, anxiety and suicide, you clearly have no idea how mental health works and clearly do not know who LA is and what his story is.

I posted my comment for people to know how our society’s mental issues are getting out of control. It is how we live our lives that make us who we are as human beings. We have to understand how mental issues developed so we can empathize and hopefully change way we live before we decided to do the same thing due to severe depression or when there is no light seen at the end of the tunnel.

Why People Commit Suicide

Suicide awareness campaigns highlight one of the most uncomfortable and perplexing questions about human behavior: why do people commit suicide?

From the standpoint of someone who is not currently suicidal - which is most of us, most of the time - it's difficult to understand how a person could ignore survival instinct, disregard the good things in life, and foreclose every possibility of future happiness. Why can't they see that they're good people? Why don't they understand that things will improve?

And if we have considered suicide ourselves in the past – which is most of us – it can be even harder to understand why they can’t shake it off. We want desperately for them to feel better.

Perhaps it is the perplexing nature of suicide that leads us to one of humanity's old explanatory standbys: diagnosis and categorization. People who are suicidal are usually placed into categories such as "depressed," "psychotic," or "manipulative."

That kind of diagnosing is done with the best intentions, I think, and with some reasonable hope of prevention. It works in some cases. For example, biological abnormalities like organic brain disease, medication reactions, or severe thyroid problems can make someone feel inexplicably suicidal. Problems like these have straightforward answers, and so proper diagnosis is vitally important.

But in the absence of an unequivocal medical diagnosis, categorizing suicidal behavior as something like "depressed" or "manipulative" doesn't explain the problem and generally skirts the real source of suicidal ideation. There is a certain kind of thinking that fuels suicide, and for most of us it is a terribly difficult idea to sit with: suicide is problem-solving behavior. In the mind of someone considering suicide, the act may seem like an expeditious and effective way to eliminate pain.

Acknowledging suicide as problem-solving behavior is uncomfortable, I think, because it appears to edge dangerously close to endorsing the act. Nothing could be further from the truth. We don't have to agree with the desire to die in order to empathize with the pain lurking behind that desire. The thought of suicide most often occurs when a person feels they have run out of solutions to problems that seem inescapable, intolerably painful, and never-ending (Chiles & Strosahl, 2005).

There is a powerful and natural temptation to argue with someone who is suicidal. We want to convince them that suicide won't solve their problems. I'm sure we're all familiar with the old bromide, "suicide doesn't fix anything."

From our perspective that may be true, but the person considering suicide may mistakenly perceive suicide as the only thing that will end their pain. Ironically, arguing this point can increase a person's resolve to end their life. Luckily, it's an argument in which we need not engage.

An alternative approach to suicidal ideation is to:

Understand that to the mind of the person contemplating suicide, it appears to be an effective way to end their pain. We need not endorse suicide in order to understand that their pain seems to be intolerable, inescapable, and interminable. Most importantly, we can acknowledge that thoughts of suicide represents a desire to solve problems.
Identify and discuss the sources of pain that exist behind suicidal ideation. When we shift the focus to the sources of pain, then we can discuss solutions other than ending a life. Often, the very act of putting words to vague and overwhelming feelings shines a light of rationality on our problems and expands our willingness to explore a broader range of solutions.

Negotiating the tricky waters of suicidal ideation is complicated business and should always be referred to trained and competent professional. If you are contemplating suicide, please contact one of these hotlines before you do anything else.

The Six Reasons People Attempt Suicide

Though I've never lost a friend or family member to suicide, I have lost a patient (who I wrote about in a previous post, The True Cause Of Depression). I have known a number of people left behind by the suicide of people close to them, however. Given how much losing my patient affected me, I've only been able to guess at the devastation these people have experienced. Pain mixed with guilt, anger, and regret makes for a bitter drink, the taste of which I've seen take many months or even years to wash out of some mouths.

The one question everyone has asked without exception, that they ache to have answered more than any other, is simply: why? Why did their friend, child, parent, spouse, or sibling take their own life? Even when a note explaining the reasons is found, lingering questions usually remain: yes, they felt enough despair to want to die, but why did they feel that? A person's suicide often takes the people it leaves behind by surprise (only accentuating survivor's guilt for failing to see it coming).

People who've survived suicide attempts have reported wanting not so much to die as to stop living, a strange dichotomy but a valid one nevertheless. If some in-between state existed, some other alternative to death, I suspect many suicidal people would take it. For the sake of all those reading this who might have been left behind by someone's suicide, I wanted to describe how I was trained to think about the reasons people kill themselves. They're not as intuitive as most think.

In general, people try to kill themselves for six reasons:

1. They're depressed. This is without question the most common reason people commit suicide. Severe depression is always accompanied by a pervasive sense of suffering as well as the belief that escape from it is hopeless. The pain of existence often becomes too much for severely depressed people to bear. The state of depression warps their thinking, allowing ideas like "Everyone would all be better off without me" to make rational sense. They shouldn't be blamed for falling prey to such distorted thoughts any more than a heart patient should be blamed for experiencing chest pain: it's simply the nature of their disease. Because depression, as we all know, is almost always treatable, we should all seek to recognize its presence in our close friends and loved ones. Often people suffer with it silently, planning suicide without anyone ever knowing. Despite making both parties uncomfortable, inquiring directly about suicidal thoughts in my experience almost always yields an honest response. If you suspect someone might be depressed, don't allow your tendency to deny the possibility of suicidal ideation prevent you from asking about it.

2. They're psychotic. Malevolent inner voices often command self-destruction for unintelligible reasons. Psychosis is much harder to mask than depression, and is arguably even more tragic. The worldwide incidence of schizophrenia is 1% and often strikes otherwise healthy, high-performing individuals, whose lives, though manageable with medication, never fulfill their original promise. Schizophrenics are just as likely to talk freely about the voices commanding them to kill themselves as not, and also, in my experience, give honest answers about thoughts of suicide when asked directly. Psychosis, too, is treatable, and usually must be treated for a schizophrenic to be able to function at all. Untreated or poorly treated psychosis almost always requires hospital admission to a locked ward until the voices lose their commanding power.

3. They're impulsive. Often related to drugs and alcohol, some people become maudlin and impulsively attempt to end their own lives. Once sobered and calmed, these people usually feel emphatically ashamed. The remorse is often genuine, but whether or not they'll ever attempt suicide again is unpredictable. They may try it again the very next time they become drunk or high, or never again in their lifetime. Hospital admission is therefore not usually indicated. Substance abuse and the underlying reasons for it are generally a greater concern in these people and should be addressed as aggressively as possible.

4. They're crying out for help, and don't know how else to get it. These people don't usually want to die but do want to alert those around them that something is seriously wrong. They often don't believe they will die, frequently choosing methods they don't think can kill them in order to strike out at someone who's hurt them, but they are sometimes tragically misinformed. The prototypical example of this is a young teenage girl suffering genuine angst because of a relationship, either with a friend, boyfriend, or parent, who swallows a bottle of Tylenol, not realizing that in high enough doses Tylenol causes irreversible liver damage. I've watched more than one teenager die a horrible death in an ICU days after such an ingestion when remorse has already cured them of their desire to die and their true goal of alerting those close to them of their distress has been achieved.

5. They have a philosophical desire to die. The decision to commit suicide for some is based on a reasoned decision, often motivated by the presence of a painful terminal illness from which little to no hope of reprieve exists. These people aren't depressed, psychotic, maudlin, or crying out for help. They're trying to take control of their destiny and alleviate their own suffering, which usually can only be done in death. They often look at their choice to commit suicide as a way to shorten a dying that will happen regardless. In my personal view, if such people are evaluated by a qualified professional who can reliably exclude the other possibilities for why suicide is desired, these people should be allowed to die at their own hands.

6. They've made a mistake. This is a recent, tragic phenomenon in which typically young people flirt with oxygen deprivation for the high it brings and simply go too far. The only defense against this, it seems to me, is education.

The wounds suicide leaves in the lives of those left behind by it are often deep and long lasting. The apparent senselessness of suicide often fuels the most significant pain. Thinking we all deal better with tragedy when we understand its underpinnings, I've offered the preceding paragraphs in hopes that anyone reading this who's been left behind by a suicide might be able to more easily find a way to move on, to relinquish their guilt and anger, and find closure. Despite the abrupt way you may have been left, guilt and anger don't have to be the only two emotions you're doomed to feel about the one who left you.

WHY DO PEOPLE COMMIT SUICIDE ?

It's often difficult to imagine what led a friend, family member, or celebrity to commit suicide. There may be no warning signs, and you may wonder what clues you might have missed. Often, many factors combine to lead to a decision to commit suicide. It is often an act made during a storm of strong emotions and life stresses rather than after careful consideration.

Depression and Mental Illnesses
While there are many factors which can influence a person's decision to commit suicide, the most common one is that the person has severe depression. A person is feeling great emotional pain but isn't able to see any way to relieve that pain other than ending her own life.

Other mental illnesses besides depression can also play a role in suicide. For example, a person with schizophrenia or other illnesses that produce psychosis might be hearing voices which command her to kill herself. Bipolar disorder, an illness in which a person experiences alternating periods of high and low moods, can also increase a person's risk for committing suicide. Borderline personality disorder is another condition with a high rate of suicide. Eating disorders, including anorexia and bulimia, have a high rate of death by suicide.

Traumatic Stress
A person who has had a traumatic experience, including childhood sexual abuse, rape, physical abuse, or war trauma, is at a greater risk for suicide, even many years after the trauma. Having the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder or multiple incidents of trauma raises the risk even further.

Substance Abuse and Impulsivity
Drugs and alcohol can also influence a person who is feeling suicidal, making her more impulsive and likely to act upon her urges than she would be while sober. Use of drugs and alcohol can contribute to the other reasons people commit suicide, such as the loss of jobs and relationships. As well, the rates of substance abuse and alcohol use disorder are higher among people with depression and other psychological disorders. Put these together and the risks increase.

Loss or Fear of Loss
A person may decide to commit suicide when facing a loss or the fear of a loss. These situations can include:
===Ending a romantic relationship or close friendship
===Losing a job or being unemployed and unable to find a sufficient source of steady income
===Financial problems
===Losing social position
===Losing your living situation due to financial reasons or the ending of a relationship
===Academic failure
===Losing social or family acceptance due to revealing your sexual orientation
===Bullying, shaming, or humiliation, including cyberbullying
===Being arrested or imprisoned

Hopelessness
Hopelessness, either in the short term or as a longer-lasting trait, has been found in many studies to contribute to the decision to commit suicide. The person may be facing a social or physical challenge and see no way the situation can improve.

When a person feels that she has lost all hope and she doesn't feel able to change that, it can overshadow all of the good things in her life, making suicide seem like a viable option. While it might seem obvious to an outside observer that things will get better, a person with depression may not be able to see this due to the pessimism and despair that go along with this illness.

Chronic Pain and Terminal Illnesses
If a person has chronic pain or an illness with no hope of a cure or a reprieve from her suffering, suicide may seem like a way to regain dignity and control of her life. Assisted suicide is legal in some states for these reasons.

Belief Your Life is a Burden to Others
People who decide to commit suicide often state that their loved ones or the world, in general, would be better off without them. The person sees herself as a burden to others or feels worthless.

Social Isolation
A person can become socially isolated for many reasons, including losing friends or a spouse, physical or mental illness, social anxiety, retirement, or due to a move to a new location. This can lead to loneliness and other risk factors such as depression and substance abuse.

A Cry for Help
Sometimes people attempt suicide not so much because they really want to die, but because they simply don't know how to get help. Suicide attempts then become a way of crying out and demonstrating to the world just how much the person is hurting. Unfortunately, these cries for help may sometimes prove to be fatal if the person misjudges the lethality of her chosen suicide method.

Accidental Suicide
There are some situations where what appears to be a suicide is actually an accidental death. The dangerous "choking game," where teens attempt to asphyxiate themselves in order to feel a high, and autoerotic asphyxiation, are examples.

A Word From Verywell
You may never know why a person committed suicide. While it might have appeared that someone had everything to live for, it probably didn't feel that way to her. If you or a friend are at risk of self-harm, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available for online chat, or call 800-273-8255.

RIP .
I remember him .

I can totally relate .
If you put passion in your work it will be a different level that you never experienced before .

Here’s what happened to me.
A person was referred to us .
And it’s an interesting case so I said I want to do a presentation.
They called for an inter- departamental conference which never happened before.
The consultants tried to roast me alive in front of all the students .
I fought back .
I was in verge of crying ..the reason ? Can’t they just set aside the politics and BS ... and just help this person that was referred to us for help ?
One of the students approached me and told me how impressed he was ... I slammed the consultants without being disrespectful. One of the consultants said my tabulation and classifications were just garbage . I answered “
But sir , that’s taken from _____ ( the authorized book of the department) . The other consultant whispered to another consultant . .. “ Porke galing kay ___ reliable na ? ( just because it’s taken from ____ , it’s already reliable ?).
I just said to myself .. geez , these consultants are just impossible.
Days after the conference , what I said was the final assessment of the consultant to that person referred to us . They tried to butcher me and shame me in front of all the students yet they agreed with me .

Anyway ..
My point is ... it can be frustrating if you put passion in your work and when you’re up against the big bosses .

All I can say ..
If you put blood , sweat and tears in your work .... no matter what the outcome whether good or bad , it doesn’t matter . You walk proud . You gain confidence and wisdom .
It happened to me ... I was not chosen as the chief in our department but it was me who they chose to compete against other institutions. Available naman yung chief namin pero ako ang pinili nila.
Just like in the movie Top Gun ... Maverick ended up not as the top graduate yet he was chosen to lead the squadron against Russia .

I won 3rd place btw which was huge kasi it involves the whole Metro Manila and our institution never won anything before.

Can i just say it could have been from the medication he was taking. I had a friend that committed suicide also. We didn't even know but he was taking some anti depression medication I don't think he even planned to kill himself cos at the scene before he hanged himself he was making music on his computer and something just ticked him. It was weird cos hes boyfriend said he was on the phone to him 2hrs prior to his death and he seemed fine.
Moral of the story.. read the reviews if you guys are taking these type of brain altering meds. Some can cause suicididal thoughts. Sometimes u probably don't need them and just getting into the gym and time to yourself and a few loved ones is all you need.

I'm literally crying. I know him well. We used to talk a lot. I wished I could have spoken to him before he made this decision. He helped me a lot with some stuff when I needed it. I could never repay him. Truly a genuine soul. Sleep in peace, bro

I AGREE. WE NEED NOT TAKE THESE MEDICATIONS TO CURE. DEPRESSION.
AS MISS WORLD COOK ISLANDS SAID, WHO IS AN ADVOCATE OF MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS,

""With such a huge reliance on social media, we're seeing as a fix on self image, there's a need to achieve physical perfectionism and perceived wealth. But most importantly, within such an overworked and overstressed generation, people failing to practice self-care and they're neglecting to look after themselves so that can be anything from physical exercise, spending time with your family, eating healthy, getting enough sleep. It's different from everybody and I believe that that is important that amidst our busy lives, so just stop, take the time and look after our mental health because beyond our careers and beyond our finances, it's essentially our health and our happiness that's most important."
