A popular opinion on Canada's Top 5 exclusion

Postby tadhana » Sun Jan 06, 2019 6:55 am

In this Facebook post about Miss Canada's Miss Universe fate, many believe she was purposely not permitted to enter the Top 5 to give Catriona an easy win.

I have also read many similar opinions in other non-Filipino pageant Facebook pages. Miss Universe fans, what do you think?

Yes, I also heard about that. Sierra Bearchell also brought that up in some of her reviews. But I don't think MUO knows about it?

She became a favorite of mine after she won the national pageant. However, i was disappointed to see her in motion in Thailand--she didn't seem to have the spark that i thought I saw earlier. And when she strode on stage with that overwhelming red-carpet ballgown, I knew she no longer stood a chance with the va-va-voom presence of Philippines, Vietnam, and Venezuela.

Those three looked so modern on stage. Canada was stunning on coronation night, but in a 1990s way.

If anyone was robbed from the Top 5, It was Curaçao not Canada and I don’t even know who I would have replaced Curaçao with because the Top 5 was perfect.

While Marta is gorgeous and definitely one of the best faces in a while and the best Miss Canada since Panikian no question, it is not hard to tell when someone is not being sincere, I know she probably did not have any bad intentions at all but Marta did deceive a lot of people and it showed, she pulled the Kára McCullough/Deshauna Barber card and that can only get you so far and I think the selection committee probably saw through that after she made the Top 10. I personally thought Australia should have made Top 10 instead of Canada. Her swimsuit performance was great, she looked like a Victoria’s Secret Angel but the gown? That train was too much for me, I was looking at the gown and not at the girl.

Curaçao on the other hand was completely genuine and up close and the camera loved her. The hair during evening gown was perfect and the gown fit her like a glove, yeah she may have stumbled a little in swimsuit but isn’t the point of a “selection committee” instead of a “judging panel” to look at the whole picture?

True!!! It's weird when they say it about Miss Ecuador when she's not even in there in the Top 20 :%)) I believe Virginia Limongi was a victim of the continental placements. A European, who I am sure was not Great Britain, robbed her a spot in the finals.

The ballgown was a wow-moment, and I think everyone agrees with that :%)) But although it didn't "eat" her, she was not able to do much on stage because of the huge attachment.

She was solid in swimsuit!

Curaçao's head shaking? during the swimsuit bothered me. Maybe that cost her the Top 5 placement.

Blame it on MICHAEL CINCO who designed the gown of Miss Canada. Well actually it was Ms.Canada who approaced/went to Michael to look for a gown. Well that's a Michael Cinco trade mark, ballooning/ballroom type of gowns.
And if I were to replaced one of the top 5 in favour of Ms.Canada, I would remove Ms.Venezuela or Puerto Rico.

If that is the case then they should have excluded South Africa as well. They have the perfect excuse because SA kept tripping on her gown.

I don’t buy this. Lame.

Her gown for the coronation night was too heavy, especially with the train that was added. The focus was then on the gown and not the girl.

Michael Cinco is a great designer. However, his gowns are not good for Miss Universe because they tend to be really heavy, and the emphasis tends to be on the gown and not the girl, exception maybe is Ahtisa's MI gown and Queenie's MW gown. They're better off for final walks of the reigning queen or for pageants like MW where there's there is no actual EG competition.

Look at the recent Miss Universe Top 5 in the past years: almost zero ball gowns. Many of them are gowns where the girl can easily move and show off their pasarela and their best assets.
Big FOUR pageants: Miss Universe, MW, MI and ME
All other pageants are MINOR pageants.

Miss Canada’s overly Botoxed face looked undoubtedly gorgeous, but that was it.

She was too serious and came off as cocky in her interview and speech. She didn’t have the charm that Vietnam had, nor the uniquely combined sweetness & fierceness of Miss Philippines. Her body looked like a walking stick in the swimsuit round. And her attention-grabbing gown overpowered her walking-stick presence and her gorgeous, overly Botoxed face.

Being an academic fraud didn’t help either.

She was not a threat at all to any of the Top 5 candidates, especially the superb Miss Philippines.

Miss Canada's ball gown literally ate her alive. In a sea of silver gown, she literally dragged hers walking down the runway. Misses Vietnam , Curacao, Venezuela ,Puerto Rico & The Philippines all sashayed and glided like a dream during the evening gown competition, giving their SIGNATURE walk that set them apart from the other delegates. South Africa proved to be a trooper despite the wardrobe malfunction, plus her styling works for her. I believe the 6th place to either be Canada or Curacao, with Thailand at 8th place, Nepal at 9th place & Costa Rica at 10th place.

Canada's Michael Cinco gown swallowed her chances to be in the Top 5. Plus she did not have spark during EG.

I don't think so.

Catriona is destined to be Miss Universe 2018, it was written in the stars. And I don't think Canada will stop her for doing so.

Also, H'hen and Kiki deserved to be in top 5. They fought really hard. And they deserved it.

Any conspiracy theories can't change the fact that Cat is our Miss Universe. She, from the very start, was ahead of the pack.

Canada is very beautiful, though. I loved her and I placed her on tge Top 5 in my predictions.

Re: A popular opinion on Canada's Top 5 exclusion

Some will try to cast doubt on Miss Philippines winning Miss Universe. Piece of advice to her fans n Filipinos, ignore such negative topics about Catriona. Her haters want negative topics to explode on social media. Don’t dignify every negative criticism ( bait) she gets. Some r provoking her fans n Filipinos to react badly and then blame Catriona. Don’t be like fish eating every bait they see. :)>-

Why do fish eat baits connected to a hook?

Answer: Some have no brains n others have tiny brains ! :)>-

I thought she was definitely our best for a longggg time. But as someone mentioned above, she appeared more fake compared to Lauren who was very real. And yea, I was surprised she kept saying she had an engineering degree!

i dont think Canada's gown affected her negatively or "ate" her on the runway.

It was a nice gown with a great stage presence but not good enough to outclass the real frontrunners

Philippines - too superb performance on both SS and EG and beyond if there is a weight on that. Performance at that point was almost immaculate.
South Africa - handled her Evening Gown boo-boo well. Her recovery is a good show of confidence.
Puerto Rico - She was also execptionally doing well, can probably at par with Curacao, Venezuela, Vietnam and Canada from 3th to 7th. It can be anyone's chance on these wide spot. But I think PR should be on the upper half of this range and can be assured 5th rank at the lowest
Vietnam - Her presence is hard to ignore. She was the dark horse during the finals with everyone has attention on her. There is something on her, the hairstyle, her body language and adorable gestures or the Hale Berry persona on her. You know what I mean.
Venezuela - Did very very well on SS and really shine during the EG round. Although I wont be surprised if she have missed the cut that night. She is safe in the middle of this pack at most.

Curacao and Canada also did well and deserved to be on Top 5, but its the race is too tight and crowded. It can be the same sentiment if we say Vietnam, Venezuela or Puerto RIco fell out instead of them.

Further, my 8th to 10th
-Costa Rica, I think she was building up but didnt shine enough, the buffer between 1st to 7th and the last 3 were to broad.
-Nepal - Her gown is a disaster as anyone noticed. The orange/red effect on her gown looked like a menstrual stain flow or an orange juice stain. Not good. Liked her prelim gown better.
-Thailand - What is with that pattern that they recycle on the gown same to that of Chalita and Maria. Is that a statement of something? Are we going to see it again in 2019? Thailand went too far to reach Top 10. I didnt even see her making it to the Top 20. I'd hope to see Australia, Colombia or Great Britain here. (or even Iceland or Kenya)
