I think the problem is not with Angela Ponce. She is eligible to compete, therefore her participation should be respected. So I don't understand why some people are attacking her personally. It just goes to show that there are still people who are unaccepting of transgenders as a whole, not just as a Miss Universe contestant.
Why don't we criticize the Miss Universe Org who decided to allow transgenders to compete in the pageant instead of attacking Angela? It's not Angela's fault is she was allowed to compete. She can compete because the organization allowed her to compete. It should be the MUO who should get the criticism for allowing transgenders to join in the first place. Our worries of a future MUO infiltrated with transgender candidates is very much real and a cause of worry for some people.
Let us remember that EQUALITY IS DIFFERENT FROM EQUITY. People who fight for the rights of transgenders to join Miss Universe may be fighting for EQUALITY. But in their quest for equality, they are actually disrespecting the rights of those naturally-born women.
In reality, we should be fighting for EQUITY... the quality of being fair and impartial. So it's only fair for naturally-born women to compete in a pageant created specifically for them.
On the other hand, Miss Universe is not created for transgenders. But a pageant already exists and was created specifically for them (Miss International Queen). So it's only fitting for them to compete in that pageant where they can highlight their strengths.
Miss Universe should reverse it's 2012 decision that allows transgenders to join and revert it back to the original rule as a pageant for "naturally-born women" because that, in itself, is the very essence of Miss Universe. Besides, Trump is not the owner of the MUO anymore.
