Because of the removal of the swimwear portion of Miss America, people are now talking about doing the same in Miss Universe.
As mentioned in an article in Sash Factor, the relevance of the pageant is not based on the competition itself but how relevant and visible they become when they win
I super agree with this insight, that is why I suggest that the MUO apply these changes:
1. Change the advocacy.
Although AIDS research is important nowadays, the business it brings to pageant is not as big.
I suggest that we change it Breast Cancer Research which is suffered by most women across the globe
2. Partner
Because of this advocacy, it is easier to partner with different companies that have the same thrust. Examples of which are Kohl's, Kisses, Estee Laduer, Ford, OPI, etc.
3. Production Value/ Relevance
Can you imagine a whole Miss Universe 2018 show that talking about breast cancer- swimsuit portion all in pink, question and answer about health and engaging the audience to donate to the cause throughout the show.
4. Winner
Winner can be the official spokesperson for breast cancer awareness and the WHO (world health org). Travelling all over the world talking about this cause
