The advantage is that it makes the semifinalists more dynamic.
However, i think that we can let go of the Wildcard entries and just increase the number of ladies making the cut.
For example, 6 or 7 girls per continent will advance to the next round. So first cut will have 18 or 20 semifinalists.
What do you think?

But then, this year the 4 spots for Asian & Africa are already taken by Philippines and South Africa for sure, 1 for Thailand if that girl is chosen, 1 for a black candidate. Poor Vietnam and H'hen, the Huong Pham curse continues
However, I think they should keep it. The show is much less boring because of it.

EUROPE IS ALREADY THE BIGGEST GROUP...A SMALL CONTINENT BUT MANY SASHES. AFRICA HAS FEWER COUNTRIES COMPETING AT MISS UNIVERSE. SO IT MAKES SENSE TO JOIN IT WITH ASIA PACIFIC WHICH STILL HAS LESS SASHES THAN EUROPE. IT'S ALL ABOUT BALANCING THE NUMBERS AS EVEN AS POSSIBLE.
THE WILD CARDS ARE THERE TO MAKE AMENDS.
I THINK THAT IF THERE IS OUTCRY FROM THE LATIN REGION MUO WILL SCRAP THIS FORMAT SOON.

That is my point, Europe may have a big amount of sashes but it usually is the weakest continent along with Africa (although even last year Africa was amazing). It sounds great on paper but sometimes it means great girls will clap by default, then what is the point?
in 2008 there were 5 girls from the Americas (we would have had to cut one) and those 5 for me have always been some of my favorite and strongest queens for their respective countries. You telling me I have to choose one to go to fill a quota? Nah.
Last year both Asia/Pasific and the Americas needed another spot yet they gave them to Croatia, China, Ireland and Canada... I still don't know how Indonesia clapped

Well, I agree with this idea. Because this promotes diversity in the top 15 of miss universe competition.
but i prefer this SELECTIONS:
-TOP 5 FROM COMBINED ROUNDS OF PRELIMINARIES.
plus TWO spots from each group
-North and South America
-Carribean Islands
-Europe
-Africa and Middle east
-Far East Asia and Oceania
HOW IS IT?
