Israel was a powerhouse in Miss Universe during the first three decades. It managed to win one title, seven runners up and numerous semifinalists. Undoubtedly, it was one of the best in Asia along with Japan and the Philippines.
After Dorit Jellinek's placement in 1978, this Western Asian nation had to wait for over two decades before having another semifinalist. It happened in 2OO1 when Ilanit Levy entered the Top 1O and finished 7th overall. In 2OO3, many thought that Sivan Klein would penetrate the semifinals but failed. Elena Ralph is the last Israeli to compete in the semifinals, she was among the Top 1O finalists.
