I think Julia would love for Hong Kong to win one day, as it was formerly in the British Empire, but I worry with China's influence over the pageant
The problem is Miss HK chooses developing girls' TV career over participating in Miss World. I actually don't recall HK joining the pageant last year. They blew their chances when Grace Chan didn't compete in 2013. What do you mean by China's influence over the pageant in this context? I don't think Mainland would oppose it, after all HK is competing as HK China, not as an independent state.
My pick Bonnie is still in the hunt and I think she will rock at Miss Chinese International 2017 if she wins. Tiffany has the height (5 foot 9), but she won't get far unless she loses some more pounds, especially since TVB doesn't care about height.
Regarding Louisa Mak from last year, TVB actually wanted her to compete at Miss World and they changed the format last year to broadcast the 12 talents. She would have been the first winner of Miss Hong Kong to compete since 2009 with Sandy Lau who competed at Miss World 2010. Had Julia been more patient and not yanked the franchise from TVB, she would have had the winner of Miss Hong Kong and not the first-runner up (Erin Wong, Jacqueline Wong, Sammi Cheung and Skye Chan) or a designation (Kelly Cheung).
Right now, TVB is experiencing a lot of actors and actresses who are moving to China to make films, dramas, etc. or are considering retirement. So TVB is trying to offset the void by forwarding the final 3 or 5 contestants to acting classes and hosting duties. I'm sure once TVB fills the gap, they could try to get the Miss World franchise back as there are whispers and rumors floating about that TVB may try to send Louisa to Miss Universe (but I highly doubt that will come to fruition) and I don't think Julia would like that.
It really is a shame since TVB can and has produced good pageant calibre ladies who can make an impact on the international pageant stage. On the other hand, Julia may be eyeing a new franchise holder and I think she may be looking at HK Television Entertainment Company Limited (aka, ViuTV, which, may or may not be a coincidence, is staging their own beauty pageant) to take the license if she really is fed up with TVB.
