One thing that Thailand needs to do is to junk the notion of the world that their Miss Tiffany's are not more beautiful than their real girls. As long as this fact remains, the world will not see Thai beauty queens as winsome.

Thanks to take your time writing about Thailand's performance.
......I would like to give you some more information about MUT, I will saying only about Miss Universe Thailand, because other stages do not share the same value. And For Thai (in general , not only Thai beauty pageantry fans) it is the most prestige one.
1. Both 2 Miss Universe from Thailand had native English speaking skill, we know that is important but..
2. It difficult to find a perfect candidate for international pageantry and at the same time being compatible in Thai norm....which still much conservative and nationalism than the Philippines, because...these paradox and complexity.
- Beauty is in the eye of beholder, Thailand's norm of beauty is not the same as one of the Philippines...It is about " difference is charming". The facial beauties as of several Binibinings, who placed high in an international level, can easily found here every where in Thailand... ( dear forumers please stay peace and clam, I didn't say that your Binibini is not beautiful. They are beautiful. ) Then MUT want something different.. a rare pearl for them. "Exotic" in western definition is not really exotic for us.(exotic = rare and being different) Unfortunately... Exotic is a matter for international judges. The Philippines' Binibini shares more common sense of "exotic" with the western judges than Miss Universe Thailand. Then don't be serprise if you see some Thai fan saying Binibini is not beautiful... and some Philippino fans saying MUT is ugly.. It is because we are not looking in the same direction.
- Thai society place the beauty of mind and manner of a girl before her physical beauty... I know it is the same too in the Philippines... but Thai society is more strict... for example Pia's answer about military base and her photo on bed with Dr.Mike .... If she was MUT or a Thai celebrity , it considered as an inappropriate behavior.... MUT should not involve or has an influence on people in politic. And having a close-relationship photo with a man is taboo... before and during reigning the title. An ordinary girl can do it... but not the celeberties who automatically engage in being a role model.
- sexy / seductive / sexual apparel..bla bla.. are not intergrated in MUT stereotype. Because Thai people love a proper girl who preserved and shy...considered as a "good girl/ a worthy one" .. The MUT song lyric proves it!!! ... The song praises the winner as " the most beautiful girl who catch our eyes and our heart, shining out by her proper-Thai-lady inner. The worthy woman who fulled with faith and knows the values in herself, then she behaves well as a good lady.. her manner is admired, appropriate and elegant. She is outstanding and shiny as the moon among stars......" Then do you think that MUT will crown a sexy girl who will make her first walk by accompanied with this song?? ...it is just can't!! There is Thai proverb compares a beautiful woman with bad attitude and bad manner as a flower with no smell... only good to eye, but no value inside.
- Most of Thai fans are really happy that Aniporn was so herself, be friendly and beloved by staffs and other candidates, even she is not fluent in English. You know, Thai representative is not there for only the crown.. but they were also there to show the world how is Thai people... They are our Goodwill Ambassadors. She serves the country. It is the attitude. The crown is last only one reigning year..... But country reputation lasts longer.
- About MUT being so fashionable... as I said she serve the country... we also used her to promote our ability of being a fashion city... Aiming as a fashion city is already written in the country plan... Thanks Pia to said in Steve's programme that Thailand has good wardrobe and she like it. And It is can't help that Aniporn is a sweetheart of several brands... They want her to wear their cloths... The first time in MUT history that a representative get such this sweet supports. Aniporn serve the country so well, she got Thailand's Prim Minister as her Tuk Tuk driver during her home coming too.
- There was a moment that, MUT Director made us feel like she looked for an "actress" not a "beauty queen".... we don't understand the reason. She is a national Director... probably she knows well something and then change her aim....
- Beauty camps, there were in Thailand... but it seem that we don't like a beauty queen who too experienced.... we love a young, fresh and natural. Time to time no-camp candidates win the title.
- While The Philippines love so much mix-blood and western named girl... Thailand is quite anti about it. If you look back, just very few mix-bloods won the MUT title.... most of them end as top 5 . And they use a Thai name in Pageantry. For example... 1st runner-up acting for MUT 2014 Pimbongkod... her real name is Alison Samson... And Farida Waller used "Natphimon Nattayalak" during MUT 2012. MUT requests its candidates not only being a Thai woman but have to resident in Thailand at least 6 months before and perfectly reading-writing Thai. Alison had to broke up with her boyfriend move back living alone in Thailand for 8 months.. and had only few months for study writing and reading Thai. This 2 requests writes off probably 99.9% of Thai mix blood around the world.
- Another thing that different than the Philippines, In Thailand... being a star/actress is higher than being a beauty queen... there are some beauty queen who steps up her career as a new actress.... but There is no prima actress come down to pageantry.
I make a long post to share you reason, value and attitude about Miss Universe Thailand.. I hope you understand the reasons we choose our queens.... The two our Miss Universe 1964 and 1988 are the real pride of Thailand. They not only won the crowns..but they won it with Thai personality.
My comment does not in attempt to hurt or offend anyone. I just want to share things here in Thai's perspective, as a Thai person... I hope we can understand each other more..

First, I would like to thank you for sharing your perspective on the dynamics of Thai pageantry. Who else understand it better than Thai people themselves? Also I would like to re-assure you that the issues you raised were duly noted and I must say given consideration before and while I was writing my analysis, which was in fact my main reason for not calling for a total overhaul or change in your representatives' personalities. Kindly note of the fact that I never made a suggestion to that effect but rather for the Thais to make the necessary adjustment specially on the manner of how you compete.
The article is not about how you select your girls but rather on the way they are being "marketed" or not being marketed properly. Kindly answer this; Why does Thailand Joins Beauty pageants? To win a crown, right? So do you believed that your country could achieve that by giving too much importance in informing the world on how your candidates will be dressed? As I suggested in the main article, you must learn to prioritize your delegates. You must learn to make noise about them and highlight their strengths and not about their blings.
Indeed, you are a beautiful people and you are sending beautiful delegates with a beauty that is so unique even among Asians so why not highlight that fact? You are making the world overlook that trait of your delegates because you made them pay more attention to the accessories that adorns your queens.
Please kindly remind yourselves and always remember that joining a beauty pageant is comparable to applying for a job, that your representatives are applicants for a job that is also being sought by other girls (applicants) So you must market your delegates based on why she should be the one to land that job.
And speaking about your country's reputation; I would like to point out that the way some of your compatriots are conducting themselves every time you failed in your bids to place or win in pageants do not give your country a good reputation.
The way some Thais were lambasting pageants' organizers and people of other nationalities with unfounded criticisms and even baseless accusations will not help build a good relationships between Thailand and the offended organizations and people. Do you really believed that you will earn Julia Morley's favor after she was practically ripped on-line by the Thais at the conclusion of Miss World 2014 and just because of the photo below?
And what about the way your compatriots have been lambasting the Filipinos and the Miss Earth pageants? If its not obvious to the your fellow Thais let me point out that among the Major pageants; Thailand actually is most successful and is in fact being given more placements/successes at Miss Earth. Imagine, your country is able to place eight times at Miss Earth within a short span of 15 years equal to what you managed to achieve at Miss Universe in more than 60 years and more than what you accomplished at Miss World! And some of your compatriots even have the gall to accuse the pageant of cheating you?aimee_aimee wrote:

I am convinced that Thailand, in recent years, has sent excellent representatives who have undeniably served face to the camera whilst wearing the flashest outfits and bling like they were sponsored by God's favour. That's all well and good but face and wardrobe can only graze someone a little bit with a hotter than usual iron; no one's going to walk away with proverbial 3rd degree burns however godsent their gown is. The candidate's personality has to come through. And that's where they fall short: they don't showcase them as a person as much as they do on the clothing front of things. They forget that the confidence and the drive to win has to come from the woman, not from the well-crafted image they have meticulously manufactured.
That's the contrast I see with Thailand and Philippines in terms of pageants - the thirst to win AND the honour to represent, with the latter being a common narrative. Like the country's salvation from poverty depended on that crown. I see Indonesia following suit with trying to keep the momentum after a couple of consecutive placements in Miss Universe. With Ani's placement, things may change.
I'd like to see a Thai queen completely stripped of bling, just wear shirt and jeans and convince me that they're going to be queen of Earth and Venus and run my shit one day.
Ramboy wrote:Oh the Thais! They will do anything to put the Filipinos down. I saw that video when Janine won 1 st runner up. They were all praying that she would lose and when she did, the whole people on that night bar was jumping with joy. To think that they should be supporting their fellow Asians just like Filipinos do. Envy and jealousy will not make you better fans. Change your strategy, it's not the 80s or 90s anymore. Look at the Philippines. They are far far away. Indonesians fared better than Thais. Be better fans, not bitter fans.
Miss Pretty wrote:Actually Thailand should make connection and pay more to Miss Universe, MW, and MI likes the Philippines did. No need to mention about ME as it is just a cooking show made by the Philippines and cheat…ops!!! win by the Philippines….lol
I agree that Thai fans are bad, but they are in the same level as Vietnam and Indonesia. However, the worst one is Filipino…go to Miss Colombia 15's IG (or Ines's, Miss Universe Germany's, Miss Universe Indonesia's) after Miss Universe final and you will see how disgusting they are.
