Last Monday, our Javier Culson did what nobody, and I say NOBODY has been able to do in Puerto Rico; he united a whole country who was losing hope in themselves.
We were all expecting a Gold Medal, he was expecting it himself as well, he was undefeated this year, he had the best time in the world, we thought it was his moment, he thought the same, but it just didn't happen. But should we feel sad just because he didn't win the Gold Medal we were expecting? OF COURSE NOT! Culson gave our country an Olympic medal after 16 years without winning ANYTHING! And that medal is not just any medal, it's our first medal EVER in athleticism, Puerto Rico has NEVER won medals in any other sports besides Boxing. Javier Culson is the 3rd best man in the world in his discipline, and he comes from a tiny island with a population of less than 4 million people, but none of that is even close to the real victory, the real accomplishment that Javier did yesterday, Javier gave us happiness, he gave us hope, he united our people in one of the most difficult times in our history, in times when we were devastated with so much bad news, he gave us a reason to be proud of where we come from once again. In the past 4 days, in 3 occasions for less than a minute he made something I thought it was impossible. Something no political party and no politician has ever done, HE MADE ALL THE PUERTO RICANS IN THE ISLAND AND AROUND THE WORLD GET TOGETHER AS ONE REAL COUNTRY. He made us root for him, cheer for him, scream for him, cry with him and he helped us realized that not everything is a lost cause. These days the country changed so much, everybody seemed happy, seemed so motivated, everywhere you'd go, peope were talking about Culson, everybody gathering together to watch his races, families, friends, politics, religious people, all together for one cause, you could notice how different was the Puerto Rican moods, this was a big thing for us, and only Javier Culson could do something like this in this country, and to me, that is more of an accomplishment than whatever material his medal was made of.
Like he said, "today I don't run, today a whole country runs" and even if Culson didn't win the race, we did, Puerto Rico did, and that is the most important thing of all. Thank You Javier Culson, for giving us the biggest gift of all, you are our Hero, and we will recieve you as such.
I also wanted to share this open letter a citizen wrote to Javier Culson, it made me cry so much, because Javier really needs to read things like this, because he was very sad and he thought he let us down, but he has to know that it was all the contrary. Sorry it's in spanish.
After the race, Culson dropped to the ground to cry, I guess he was disappointed, but...
"While you were on the ground crying, Puerto Rico was on their feet applauding you".
Oh, and this is for the motherfucking Puerto Ricans who have been talking shit about Culson, saying that a Bronce medal ain't shit, that he "failed us once again", go f**k yourselves ungrateful pieces of shit!
