In an interview with El Nuevo Día, the National Director of MUPR said, that the allegations of the possible cancellation of MU are "rumors without base". She said that every year rumors and hoaxes are created, probably because people get anxious and wan't the MU org. to react and make a move. She said that the MU org will reveal the host country "when the logistics get confirmed".

She also confirmed that the pageant is still programed to be held on December 17th like the organization have announced previously, not only because it was confirmed to her by the MU org itself, but also because NBC has that date separated for the broadcast of Miss Universe on December 17th and Telemundo is constantly in communication with them.

She says that it's just a difficult year since NBC is the official tv station of the Olympics plus also the Elections with the debates and stuff.

La celebración del certamen internacional provoca dudas

Al citar al diseñador de moda colombiano Alfredo Barraza, Radio Cadena Nacional (RCN) Radio de Colombia publicó una nota que apunta a que la edición de este año del concurso de belleza Miss Universo podría cancelarse.

Según se desprende de la nota de días recientes, “la falta de sede” y “la fecha de temporada alta” al evento celebrarse en diciembre -como se tiene previsto- supondrían que los costos promedio del certamen suban.

“Lo único que sé es que todos los años surgen rumores por la sede, por la fecha, por todo ese tipo de cosas. No sé si es por el deseo de que la organización reaccione”, expuso Desirée Lowry, directora de Miss Universe Puerto Rico, al negar la información que publicó la cadena colombiana y catalogarla como “rumores sin fundamento”.

De acuerdo con Lowry, la organización de Miss Universo revelará la sede “cuando tengan la logística confirmada”.

Mientras, aseguró que la fecha del 17 de diciembre para la celebración del evento continúa como la organización había anunciado.

“Y eso me consta no solo por la organización, sino porque NBC tiene la fecha separada y Telemundo siempre está en comunicación con ellos”, mencionó la presidenta de la franquicia local.

Lowry dijo confiada que el concurso internacional que se ha celebrado desde el 1952 no dejará de efectuarse este año a pesar que el evento se llevará a cabo meses más tarde de la fecha usual, que oscila entre mayo y septiembre.

“Es un año singular; considera las Olimpiadas y las elecciones. Como NBC es el canal oficial de las Olimpiadas y estamos en año de elecciones con los debates políticos televisivos, ellos tienen su estrategia de cáando quieren lanzar su evento ‘premium’ ”, finalizó Lowry.

i dont even know why such rumors came out!
Trump is a multi-billionaire!
why would he cancel MU just because there is no sponsor or host city? duhhhh. .
i even think he should penalize those franchise owners releasing false info!
right now, such news can really affect the integrity of MU. .

but well, if MU is really canceled, then hit me. . :-D

If NBC has been the official broadcaster of Olympics in the US and aired successfully Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 respectively and US Presidential Elections also coincided during those quadrennial events,then why Miss Universe wasn't held in last quarter of those abovementioned years?

If Miss Universe wanted to return to its original schedule of May event,they should first held Miss Universe 2013 in September then switched it back to May in 2014. Could it be Philippines is eyeing to host Ms U 2014,that's why the Org wants to schedule it quickly for a month of May next year? May will have the most friendly climate in the Philippines to stage the pageant coz it's summer season like in 1994 when the country hosted it for the second time.

This is good news! MU 2012 is already a mess and it didnt even start, lmao, I feel like this year is gonna be disastrous

To be honest, reading that Barraza was the source of all this made it very unreliable to begin with !

I don't know why, could be just me but I have a feeling Miss Universe is going down.. (in popularity, show wise and winner wise).

Last year was a big let down. I miss Miss Universe like it used to be in its ''best years'' 2003, 2004, 2005. These 3 years had an AMAZING production.

I have never liked 2003 and 2005 editions, cause it was too "cold"; 2004 was really great with full of colors.
2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 are for me all really good editions. WARM, DYNAMIC, EXOTIC.
I'm pretty sure 2012 will be a good one too, MUO will rekindle the flame.

a couple of days ago i saw on the Miss Universe Singapore fb page that MUO told them they will announce host and venue really soon, i think all the orgs prob know where it will be because today the Miss Nicaragua org posted they will confirm really soon. anyway i never knew the date was Dec 17 thats new to me
