I am sure English culture is more than Harry Potter, Mr Bean, James Bond and pop music Probably one of the worse in recent Olympics.

I strongly agree! London 2012's opening looked amateurish compared to what Beijing had showcased to the world last 2008. I hate the two teens that kissed. It's like, what was that? Seriously? Kissing in front of the whole world to see?

Mukhang may concert lang sa olympic park, parang di na opening ceremony ng olympic games ang nagyari. Walang man lang relevance yung kinanta ng mga artists. But in all fairness, gusto ko yung style ng pag lit ng olympic flame, unique.

Well I loved it! Everything was brilliant and very touching, I had goosebumps during all the event, plus seeing so many things from my childhood was so beautiful and exciting, I guess it's a matter of cultures, because all my friends loved it as well.

I have to agree with you.
I think it was symbolic and touching. :hx

IMHO, Beijing still has the honor though for staging the most grand
and extravagant opening ceremony. Which is understandable coz
they spent 100M something as compared to London's 40M budget.

[font=Book Antiqua][color=#000099][size=150]It's not boring. It's just... uhm.... too British I must say.

I didn't expect it to be a wham-bam expectacle like Beijing or Sydney (still the best, in my opinion). I've seen a lot of British productions, the Royal Albert Hall concerts, etc. One thing's common, they are less showy, more formal I must say.

So i agree with one poster, it might just be a cultural thing. I mean, look at Miss World, which is a British production. It's also a snoozefest, but for Madame Morley, it's like the most exciting thing ever. LOL.

Yeah I also loved it! I even got emotional in the parade of flags witch Iraq, because of what the presenters were saying. I was happy for the women waving the flag, by her facial expression I could tell that she was happy to be there. Also With USA! ( USA all the way when it comes to the Olympics =c3 )
The FIREWORKS were extraordinary! Yeah I also had goosebumps during many of the events; I was just happy for all the athletes I guess.
The torch event was amazing. Hard to explain how I felt, I was just extremely excited!
Well I am a fan of the Olympics and will probably be seeing most of the events!

Great job London!

Beijing 2008 Olympics is still the best opening I've seen, EVER. Anyway, London's opening this year is not bad. I liked it too but not close to Beijing's.

I read the article explaining the concept of the opening ceremony and what I saw tonight was exactly how I pictured it. Setting the time in the age of industrialization of Great Britain, what must I expect? Nevermind.

At least, I was entertained by:

1. James Bond escorting the Queen.

2. The Queen parachuting to the event.

3. The amazing fireworks.

Worst on the show was Paul McCartney who, at his age, cannot sing anymore. And can he at least sing other songs than what he used to sing in the 60's?

What Beijing did in 2008 is out of this world. They allegedly spent 100B $ for the whole production. Obviously no other countries would spend that much money for an event like the Olympics. It's just ridiculous. No countries will be able to match what Beijing did 4 years ago, at in least in the next 20 years. In my opinion, Beijing's opening ceremony was politically motivated. They made a statement to the whole world that they don't need to be democratized. That they are as capable as other democratic countries to host an event like the Olympics without converting to democracy. That democracy isn't the answer to everything. History is boring. But Beijing told the world their history and still made it visually appealing. London was fully aware of what Beijing did. I'm quite sure that they were aware that they can only match what Beijing did musically but certainly not visually. It's just impossible especially with the kind of budget they were willing to put forth. With that said, you have to watch the London 2012 opening ceremony with an open mind. Don't think about what Beijing did. Appreciate what they have to offer.

It was very current, witty and youthful and yeah very british. what do ya expect. but at least it was honest. not like beijing which is just a fantasy!!!not real. it had no heart. ALL IT HAD ARE DANCE FORMATIONS THAT WILL BE PRETTY WHEN VIEWED ATOP/AFAR! SILLY AND SHALLOW. VERY ANCIENT CONCEPT.

london opening ceremony embodies the modern world and multiculturalism although i have to agree that the director mr. boyle made it very hollywoodish!

OTHER OPENING CEREMONIES ARE A FEAST TO THE EYES...THE LONDON OPENING WAS NO GRANDEUR WHATSOEVER...I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED..

HOY MGA VAKLA!!!WHO TOLD YOU TO WATCH THE OLYMPICS ANYWAY!! KAYA BA NG PINAS MAG STAGE NG OLYMPICS!! KUNG MAKAPINTAS KAYO PARA NAMANG YOU HAVE THE RIGHT IN THIS WORLD TO EXPRESS YOUR STUPID COMMENTS!! YOU GET EXCITED PAG BEAUTY CONTEST NA PURO KABADUYAN... PANG THIRD WORLD... THERE US NO WAY THAT PHILIPPINES CAN STAGE AN AZING SHOW LIKE WHAT LONDON DID... NO WAY IN MILLION YEARS..

ALTHOUGH I AGREE WITH ALL YOU SAID I TAKE OFFENSE IN WHY DO YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT ON THE ENTIRE PHILIPPINES! YES, THE PHILIPPINES CAN STAGE AN OLYMPICS BY EVEN NEXT YEAR IF IT HAS THE BUDGET/WEALTH!AND CAN BE MORE AMAZING THAN ANY COUNTRY BECAUSE AS YOU MAY NOT HAVE NOTICED LIKE DUH PINOYS THE WORLD OVER ARE THE MORE TALENTED AND CREATIVE ONES! BUT YEAH THOSE BITCHES HAVE NO RIGHT TO CRITICIZE LONDON BECAUSE IN REALITY THE PH CANNOT STAGE IT BY ANY SMALL CHANCE, NOT IN A HUNDRED YEARS NGA LANG LOL.
