Jelaca finishes seventh in EC javelin throw event

HELSINKI - Serbian javelin thrower Tatjana Jelaca finished seventh in the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki on Friday.

Jelaca came up with her season's best of 57.58 meters.
The gold medal went to Vera Rebryk of Ukraine with the national record of 66,86 meters, while silver and bronze were claimed by German athletes Christina Obergfoll (65,12 m) and Linda Stahl (63,69 m).

Dudas finishes fourth in EC decathlon

HELSINKI - Mihail Dudas of Serbia finished fourth in the discus event of the men's decathlon at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki with 8,154 points.

The gold medal went to Pascal Behrenbruch of Germany with 8,558 points, silver to Aleksey Kasyanov of Ukraine (8,321), and bronze to Ilya Shkurenev of Russia (8,219).

Earlier on Thursday, Emir Bekric reached the 400m hurdle finals setting a new national record with 49.37 secs.
The final race is to take place on Friday at 7 p.m.

Two medals for Serbia at the European Championships in Helsinki

It was a great day for our athletics at the European Championships in Helsinki - two medals won in one day. Asmir Kolašinac managed to win the bronze medal throwing the ball 20.36 meters, and Emir Bekrić won the silver medal in the final 400m hurdles race with the time 49.49.

Serbian Olympic Committee (OKS) presented clothing, made by the Italian company "GIVOVA", that sportsmen and sportswomen will wear at the Olympic Games in London. The sportswear was presented by members of the Serbian team - Ivana Maksimovic (shooting), Marko Novakovic and Marko Tomicevic (kayaking), Dragana Gladovici (taekwondo) and Marko Jeftovic (table tennis).

The company Visa Inc. has invited all fans from Serbia to support their favorite Olympians in their way to Olympic Games in London in 2012.Michael Phelps has joined this Visa’s global cheering campaign, a member of Team Visa, by inviting all Serbian people to support Zorana Arunovic.
Phelps has been photographed with a large banner created specifically for the Serbian Olympian, on which is inscribed “Zorana go!”

Arunovic won a gold medal, Mirosavljev won a silver medal at the World Cup in Munich

On the last day of the World Cup in Munich, Serbian shooters won gold and silver medal. Zorana Arunovic won the air pistol event, while the silver medal in the discipline small caliber rifle 3 times 40 bullets went to Nemanja Mirosavljev.
Zorana was “shot” 490.7 circles with the air pistol and triumphed convincingly. BobanaVelickovic was very close to the medal, she took fifth place with 483.5 laps. Jasna Sekaric ended the competition on 32nd place with 378 laps.

Nemanja Mirosavljev was second in small caliber rifle shooting, three times on 40 shots with 1278.6 circuits, two less than the winner Italian Niccolo Campriani.

Siladji qualifies for Olympic Games

Serbian swimmer Caba Siladji won a place in the London Olympics in the 100-metre breaststroke race.

Siladji managed to qualify for the Olympics as he recorded 1:01:56 minutes in the race within the Shanghai World Championship last year.

Siladji is the 114th member of the Serbian Olympic team and the seventh member of the country's swimming team, which includes Milorad Cavic, Ivan Lendjer, Djordje Markovic, Velimir Stjepanovic, Nadja Higl and Miroslava Najdanovski.

Terzic announces long list for Olympics

Zoran Terzic, coach of the women's volleyball team of Serbia, announced Friday the long list of players for the Olympic Games in London.
The list comprises: Maja Ognjenovic, Bojana Zivkovic, Danica Radenkovic, Jovana Brakocevic, Sanja Starovic, Ana Bjelica, Suzana Cebic, Nina Rosic, Natasa Krsmanovic, Milena Rasic, Nadja Ninkovic, Stefana Veljkovic, Jovana Stevanovic, Jovana Vesovic, Tijana Malesevic, Brankica Mihajlovic, Ivana Djerisilo, Sanja Malagurski, Ana Lazarevic, and Jelena Blagojevic.
The Serbian team will be part of Group B together with China, South Korea, Turkey, the United States and Brazil, and four teams from each of the two groups will reach the quarterfinals.
Serbia's Olympics opener is scheduled against China on July 28 at 12:30 CET.

Kolakovic announces long list for Olympics

Igor Kolakovic, coach of the men's volleyball team of Serbia, announced Friday the long list of players for the Olympic Games in London.

The list comprises: Vlado Petkovic, Mihajlo Mitich, Aleksa Brdjovic, Sassa Starovic, Aleksandar Atanasijevic, Dusan Petkovic, Nikola Rosic, Filip Vujic, Dragan Stankovic, Marko Podrascanin, Milan Rasic, Dejan Radic, Srecko Lisinac, Bojan Janic, Nikola Kovacevic, Milos Nikic, Uros Kovacevic, Milos Terzic, Nemanja Petric, and Marko Ivovic.

The Serbian players departed Wednesday for preparations in Kranjska Gora, northwest Slovenia, where they will stay by July 14, and their first match at the Olympic Games is scheduled against the U.S. on July 29 at 17:45 CET.

Besides Serbia, Group B also includes Tunisia, Germany, Brazil, and Russia, and four teams from each of the two groups will reach the quarterfinals.

Same as yesterday, informed by the PSS and the Serbian Olympic Committee, 8th Serbian participant for the swimming events at the London Olymic Games will be Radovan Siljevski (member of the SC Vojvodina), also the Olympian (Beijing 2008). Fina has approved his B cut for the men's 200 freestyle (1:49.47) swum at the SLO Open Champs in Kranj last month.

Tipsarevic through to Stuttgart semifinal

STUTTGART- Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic reached Friday the semifinal of the ATP claycourt tournament in Stuttgart, claiming a 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over German Bjoern Phau.
The prize money in Stuttgart totals EUR 410,175.

Djokovic wins ESPY for best tennis player

LOS ANGELES - Serbia's Novak Djokovic has won an ESPY award, given out by American television network ESPN to best athletes every year.
Djokovic was named the tennis player of the year, while Miami Heat star LeBron James won three ESPYS - male athlete of the year, championship performance of the year and NBA player of the year. Barcelona striker Lionel Messi was chosen as the best international athlete, and Miami Heat is the best NBA team.

Serbia wins gold - 2012 World Rowing


The reigning Under-23 Champions in this event are Serbia and they have returned today with three of the same members as their 2011 crew. All six crews got away together and by the first timing marker, at the 500m point, there was only just over a second separating all six boat with Germany having a marginal lead. Germany finished second in 2011 and they were managing to keep their stroke rate higher than other boats.
By the half-way point Serbia (Aleksandar Filipovic, Jovan Jovanovic, Igor Lucic, Luka Djordjevic and coxswain Mateja Josic) and the United States were in front with nothing between these two boats. Serbia and the United States remained absolutely level and matching each other stroke for stroke for the next quarter of the race with Australia, New Zealand and France all level with each other. With just 500m left to row it was going to be a six-boat sprint to the line.
In an incredibly tight finish Serbia had managed to just edge out the United States who take second with New Zealand winning the battle for bronze. Serbia had successfully defended their World Champion title.

OKS mission travels to London

BELGRADE - A mission of the Olympic Committee of Serbia (OKS) left Wednesday for London, where it will carry out all the necessary preparations for the arrival of Serbian athletes.
The delegation is headed by OKS Chairman Vlade Divac, who will also have meetings Wednesday and Thursday in the city hosting the 30th Olympic Games.
"The mission will prepare the ground for the arrival of our athletes in London and I hope we will see each other often when we celebrate medals they have won," Divan told reporters at Belgrade airport.
Head of the OKS mission Branislav Jevtic said the Serbian Olympic team in London will have a total of 204 members.
"We have 115 athletes, plus two backups ready to jump in in case of injuries, and the rest of the team are there to provide logistical support. The shooters are coming on Friday and a large charter flight with 120 people will arrive in London on July 24, while taekwondists will arrive last on August 5," said Jevtic.
The Olympic Games in London will take place from July 27 to August 12.

Serbian kayakers junior European champions

Serbian kayakers Simo Boltic and Marko Dragoslavljevic have won the gold medal at the European sprint for juniors and senior U23, in the Portuguese town of Montemor-o-Velho. The Serbian crew has won the title in the event K-2 500m, after finishing the race in 1 minute, 32 seconds and 439 thousandths.

After the title won by juniors Simo Boltic and Marko Dragosavljevic in the event K-2 500m, young seniors Vladimir Torubov and Dejan Pejic have won the silver medal in the same discipline, finishing the race in one minute, 35 seconds and 255 thousandths of a second. The gold went to the Hungarian crew, and the bronze to Germany. For Torubov and Pajic this is their second medal in the competition, as they have already won the silver in the 1000m race on Saturday.

Serbia’s juniors best in the Balkans


The Serbian women's junior national volleyball team retained their Balkan crown after beating Turkey 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-23) in the last round of the Balkan Junior Women's Championship in the Turkish city of Tekirdag. Serbia's girls finished the tournament with an immaculate record with only two lost sets. The team is scheduled to return on Sunday evening.

Bojana Jovanovski wins first title

BAKU - Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski won the first title of her career at the WTA tournament in Baku, Azerbaijan, defeating American Julia Cohen 6-3, 6-1 in the final of on Saturday.
The prize money at the tournament totaled USD 220,000, of which USD 37,000 went to the winner. Jovanovski also won 280 points and should find herself in the 67th spot on the WTA list as of Monday.

Rowers Stojic and Bedjic finish fourth


LONDON - The Serbian men's coxless pair Nikola Stojic and Nenad Bedjik on Saturday failed to qualify directly for the semifinal at the Olympic Games in Lodon after finishing fourth in their qualifying heat with a time of 6:23.87 minutes.
The New Zealand crew finished the race first in 6:08.50 minutes, with France second and Poland third.
Stojic and Bedjik will have another chance to reach the finals on Monday, July 30 when they will compete in the repechage.
