It's politics as usual

Postby Ric Galvez » Mon May 21, 2012 10:01 am

Despite the bravura and sophistication of the finale of Miss Universe 2011, politics sadly, had shaped the general outcome of the world’s most watched beauty pageant. Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 Deborah Henry, in a post-pageant interview, could be right in saying that the end results of the pageant were all politics. Why else all the Portuguese-speaking countries that participated in the pageant made it to the Top 10?

For those who had a chance to follow Missosology.Org in all these years, it is important to cite that the word missosology is defined as the study and analysis of beauty pageants and it began revolving around politics. It was about showing a plausible explanation about the outcome of what were then the Big3 pageants, based on the political developments around the world. For example, when applied these days, one can suggest that the victory of Angola at Miss Universe 2011 is greatly influenced by the fact that the country is one of the fastest growing economies in Africa and because it is underdeveloped it has a great potential on areas such as real estate and petroleum.

i loved it!!! :=p :=p :=p
yes, it might be true that we only base things on speculations
and observations, but at the end of the day,
somewhere in what we have speculated is a touch of truth. . .

and i really feel bad since these girls work hard for the title
just to see the winners, winning solely on the basis of politics. . .
i PERSONALLY believe that MU 2011 is a clear example of that. . .
they really did everything they could to stop the strongest contenders
from making it in the last round. . .

I have thought about all the time why Miss Iraq can't join Mu or MW. And finally I have got the answer!
MU or MW don't want to have a contestnant from Iraq becouse of the politic. There has always been a miss Iraq pageant and 2009 when Alina Shohet won Miss Iraq she wanted to represent Iraq in MU. BUT MU didn't allow her to join the competition.

I DISAGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT, FIRST WE MUST ALL ACCEPT THAT BEAUTY IS BASE ON THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. AND THAT OUR OPINIONS AND LIKES ARE OURS AND PERHAPS NOT THAT OF THE MISS UNIVERSE ORGANIZATION OR OF THE PRELIMINARY JUDGES, SO THEY WILL BE SURPRISES IN WHO CLASSIFIES AND WHO DON'T. IT GOES BEYOND WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EVENING GOWN OR SWIMMING SUIT PORTION OF THE COMPETITION. WE ARE NOT THERE FOR THE PERSONAL INTERVIEWS, WE ARE NOT THERE TO SEE HOW THE GIRLS PERFORM DURING REHEARSALS, HOW THEY CONDUCT THEMSELVES DURING DINNERS AND PRESENTATIONS, OR WHAT THEIR BEHAVIOR IS TOWARDS THE STAFF THAT WORKS BEHIND THE SCENES. ALL OF THESE THINGS ARE BEING TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN THEY SELECT THE SEMIFINALIST. THIS IS LIKE YOUR ARE BEEN INTERVIEW FOR A JOB AND THEIR NOT MANY POSITIONS AVAILABLE.
ANOTHER POINT IS THAT IF IT WAS ALL ABOUT POLITICS MANY COUNTRY LIKE CHINA, RUSSIA, VENEZUELA, ARGENTINA, SOME COUNTRIES IN AFRICA, AND BRAZIL ARE NOT WHAT WE WILL CALL DEMOCRATIC COUNTRIES. MANY HAVE IMPLEMENTED SOCIALIST PLATFORMS THAT ARE NOT PRO US, AND SOME ARE EVEN A DICTATORSHIP. DEBORAH WAS A EXCELLENT DELEGATE, BUT SO WAS GREECE, PERU, NICARAGUA, ARUBA, AND MANY OTHERS THAT WE CAN NAME. ALSO SHE MAY NOT HAVE BEEN WHAT THE THE ORGANIZATION OR THE JUDGES WERE LOOKING FOR. MAYBE SHE WAS A LITTLE ARROGANT, OR SOMETHING THAT SIMPLY DID NOT MAKE HER BE LIKE BY THOSE WHO SELECTED THE SEMIFINALIST. BUT WHEN YOU ARE GROOMED A ASSURED BY PEOPLE LIKE INES NEGRON THAT YOU ARE GOING TO CLASSIFY AND WIN MAYBE SHE BELIEVED IT WAS SET IN STONE.

"It's politics as usual"...for the losers, that is. And that is such a completely disingenuous claim.
A beauty contest is not an objectively measurable contest like a swimming competition; thus, there will always be two opinions: the winners' and the losers'.
At the end of the day, you just have to give the results the benefit of the doubt.
Missosology is an interesting and a fascinating science- it is sociology, psychology and cosmetology rolled into one.

Beauty pageants are like Starbucks.

Sad but so true. I even feel that in local pageants, these things happen. What can we do then?
