Pathway to Miss Universe New Zealand 2012

Postby jgrayjnr » Sun Jan 15, 2012 7:36 pm

Hi boys and girls

A new year has ascended and with it a new slate to start afresh, speculations, tribulations, triumphs and bitchiness and most of all glamour.

My thread last year about Miss Universe NZ pathway was highly successful and well viewed, so here we go with all of the background leading up to the big night later this year.

I thought to kick things off, I would begin with a tribute to New Zealand's SuperBeauties of the last few years, the goddesses across the different pageants. In short, my my most favourite Queens and the most loved. Though the majority of them did not make the international finals, I still believe we have a chance to make the Miss Universe finals for the first time in 20 years! Its been a long time since Lisa de Montalk in Thailand, 1992!

Here are our creme de la creme. Who is your favourite?

Image

Cassie, my pre-favourite from Miss Universe NZ 2011 - bombed horribly in the finals - but when I see pics of her as a model for Nova agency, I breathe a sigh of "ahhh if only" she managed to translate that translucent fine beauty into a beauty queen package. Nonetheless my favourite Miss Auckland of the last few years and probable up and coming top model in NZ.

Image

Anneliese from Cambridge, Waikato, my favourite all time Miss Earth contender - she was picked as a front runner for Miss Earth 2006 by a former Miss Venezuela (Milka Chulina) and then - bombed horribly in the finals - as she was too scarily thin and looked harsh instead of the sleek exquisite creature you see before me. Again, while she was wasted at the international pageant she has gone on to become a model in NZ. Stunning, vivacious, her eyes I can be lost in forever.

Image

Magdalena from Canterbury, is a sweetheart. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her, and really thought we were in for a shot with her competing at Miss World 2009. She was featured as a hot pick on almost every website and Global Beauties even said she was a top 3 standout for X Factor. Alas - again it wasn't to be. Luckily she has put her beautiful, porcelain features to good use as a NZ fashion model.

Image

Brigitte from Motueka, South Island, was the big winner on the 3rd cycle of NZ's Next Top Model series. She was a surprise candidate who quietly worked her way to the top and maximised her win with her lofty height, Brigitte Bardot qualities and humility. She is enjoying a fashion model career in NZ and we hope that greatness beckons.

Image

Ria from Auckland, is the one name I need not introduce. A huge favourite for the Miss Universe crown in 2010, it was a travesty that she was left out of the race at the first post. Ria has gone on to become the international face of INNOXA cosmetics. Probably the best we have ever produced.

Image

Jessica from Manawatu, was a 16 year old school girl when she won the local Miss Teen competition. She was taken to New York to see a modelling agency and the rest as they say is history. She was recently the first NZ model EVER to walk in the Victoria's Secret fashion show. A goddess.

Stay tuned for upcoming announcements.....

Here are some of the already crowned regional contestants who will be fighting it out for this years honours at Miss Universe NZ 2012:

Pre- favourite: Last year I chose Miss Auckland Cassie Matthews as overwhelming starter in the race and this year looks like the first candidate out of the blocks is Miss OTAGO: Monique Cooley of beautiful Queenstown in the South Island. A 21 year old beauty therapist, Monique won the title in October in her first try at beauty pageants - the first Miss Otago held in 12 years! Though it was her first time, she is no stranger to competition and was selected during the first round of auditions for New Zealand's Next Top Model in 2009 before being cut for being too "commercial". It's interesting to note she was blonde then, but is now a dark haired beauty. I think she has a similar appeal of last year's Miss North Harbour Talia Bennett and also a little bit of Miss Brazil 1993, with her sharp features and beautiful eyes.

Image

Image

Reminding me of Leila Schuster...

Image

and in swimsuit

Image

reminding me of Talia....who should have won last year!

Image

Competitive: In the stakes is Miss AUCKLAND Jennifer Lambly, traditionally one of the stronger franchises in Miss Universe NZ - Auckland has placed in the top 5 in the past few years. 21 years old and a student and aspiring model, dancer and television presenter - Jennifer kept in shape through her personal trainer brother. Born in the US, Jennifer came to NZ when she was 13. I think she is statuesque but she needs to find a special beauty. I would emphasise her eyes, tone down her smile, work her angles and settle on what her hair style will be. She usually carries a fringe but I'm not sure it works as it makes her face a bit severe. In this picture at a stretch she has a Lynda Carter or Natalie Glebova feel?

Image

In her dreams?

Image

Speaking of Miss Auckland, I thought the first runner up Holly Cassidy - though a little shorter - has more photogenic quality and smoulder. Third place went to Courtney Ramsdale - last years Miss Howick and 2nd RU at MUNZ. Unfortunately she did not do enough to stand out - though she is was by far the most experienced. Miss Universe NZ Katie Taylor and Priyani Puketapu were all past contestants who came back to take the win. Will one of the girls follow suit and enter anyway?

Image

Holly Cassidy - possible entrant in Miss Universe NZ anyway??

NO CHANCE: Not to be mean but the following two queens were just lucky they competed in weak years. Miss HUTT VALLEY Rebecca Milne and Miss MANAWATU Miriam Shroeter will just be there to make up numbers sadly.

Image

Miss Hutt Valley

Image

UPCOMING: Pageants to be held in the next few months include the return of Miss Wairarapa (first time in 23 years), Miss North Harbour and Miss Wellington. Winners to be announced.

HEAD TURNER: Miss HOWICK: Avianca Böhm

Image

Crowned by last years Miss Howick, Courtney Ramsdale (placed third at Miss Auckland 2012 and Miss Universe NZ 2011), this years successful delegate was Avianca Bohm, a 21 year old from Dannemora. Avianca is a model and fashion tech student, formerly emigrated from South Africa. She won the crown on her second attempt (she was third in 2009) and has high aspirations on winning the Miss Universe NZ crown. It is interesting to note that a few former Miss World NZ's have all been South African including Miss NZ '11 Mianette Broekman, Miss NZ '09 Magdalena Schoeman and Miss NZ '05 Kay Anderson. From the looks of the pictures, it seems like Avianca might be the fresh new favourite to usurp Miss Otago, though these are early days. If she maintains these high fashion looks and keeps an edge during the pageant finals she is well with a chance to hoist the title. Is she your favourite amongst the early contenders?

Image

she can capitalise on her awesome figure..

Image

her runway walk..

Image

her strong features..

Image

her ethereal quality...

I think shes in with a shot and being from Howick (run by Miss Universe NZ boss Val Lott, she will be getting maximum training and advice during her preparation..

Go Avianca!

Yes she does look better in the new pics emerging than when she won Miss Howick but I think she is more of a model than a Beauty Queen. Provided she has her citizenship sorted by now - and being Val's Miss Howick - she could be in with a chance at placing. And going by the laws of Miss Universe, Miss Howick could never win Miss Universe NZ as Val runs that pageant too, so she would only be a placing if that (to keep the Miss Howick Sponsors happy of course!).

My pick thus far is Miss Otago!!!! Michael Hill (her sponsor in Miss Otago) had her on hand to open his Queenstown store, she looked absolutely stunning! Breath-taking actually! Very international!

Courtney Ramsdale is in Miss Universe New Zealand again this year (representing Celsius Gastrobar), she is not looking as refined as she has in the past so she needs to get her eye on the prize! But I don't think she is any competition for Miss Otago after seeing pics of her since she won! She seems to be getting stronger! Although I wonder if Courtney is being groomed to win this year as per Katie Taylor and Priyani Puketapu did? Just saying... She is the strongest blond so far anyway!

I hope that one day a gorgeous lady will represent NZ.
Ria Van Dyk was a beautiful one, but not enough to place, continue to sending pretty girls like this robbed Talia Bennett or Cassie Matthews! I think that they can place in the Top 16.
Good luck New Zealand.

Hey steveybaby

I think you're spot on. Just checked out the latest pics of Miss Otago - and she definately has an international X factor quality.

Image

Looking gorgeous at the Michael Hill store opening in glam black, audrey hepburn-ish style

Image

Modelling a beautiful blue dress - sporting a Liz Hurley, Jennifer Hawkins/Elle MacPherson - girl next door vibe...maybe be nice to see her hair a bit lighter perhaps? I want her to practice her smile and maybe try a darker lip rather than pastel?? But I'm liking what Im seeing. Keep going Monique!

Hey JGray

Yes she does have similar qualities to Talia Bennett - body not as amazing but best I have seen thus far, Miss Auckland could be her competition for the body. I prefer Monique to be all done up, her features are a tad pointy when she is wearing the light lip gloss or no make up, making her look old - however done up at Michael Hill's opening - WOW factor! Very nice indeed!

Fingers crossed Talia Bennett is in the competition this year - she should have won last year so shouldn't have any problems winning this year! I have seen a few recent pics of her and she is looking more stunning than ever!

Any news on Miss Wellington or Horowhenua? Will there be a Miss Christchurch this year? Or at least an entrant?

MISS WORLD NEW ZEALAND - last 5 years

While we await the Miss Universe NZ 2012 candidates to emerge - lets take a look at the last five Miss New Zealand's to compete at Miss World. Each representative has three pics - a head shot, candid shot and a glam shot. My assessments below each.

Miss NZ 2007: Stephanie Dods

Image

Stephanie was a young 16 year old Miss Teen NZ who represented us at Miss World 2007 - while too young at the time, she is now a 21 year old model living on the Gold Coast in Australia. Her candid shot is absolutely exquisite and she shows a feline, sultry, dark beauty. The type to drive poets to insanity through her elusive stunning power. Her headshot shows a classic Oriental/Euro look. I'd love to see her try out for Miss Universe NZ as with age, she has definately matured like a fine wine.

Candid: 9.8 Headshot: 9.72 Glam: 9.38
Score: 9.63
Ranking: Fourth Equal
Key words: Feline/Sultry

Miss NZ 2008: Kahurangi Waititi

Image

Kahurangi was another young teen who represented us at Miss World 2008 and placed in the Top 20 Beach Beauty Competition. She also represented NZ at Miss Model of the World in China. Very tall and over 6 foot - Kahurangi possesses a beauty of character and mana (Maori word for prestige or pride) as she is fluent in the Maori language and has been raised with strong cultural values. Not a conventional beauty - she comes across in different ways from demure, to dusky, mysterious to womanly and natural. She has been featured in many websites for Maori education go getters. Her glam shot is classic, beautiful body and easy glow, her headshot softens her angles and really draws attention to her eyes and cheekbones, her candid is at a modelling show but underlines her natural grace and elegance.

Glam: 9.64 Headshot: 9.67 Candid: 9.59
Score: 9.63
Ranking: Fourth Equal
Key words: Cultural Values/Unconventional

Miss NZ 2009: Magdalena Schoeman

Image

Magdalena represented NZ at Miss World 2009 and was considered by many pageant watchers in with a chance for making the Top 20 - which she failed to do. She arrived at the turning point of pageant watching - when bloggers, Facebook and Youtube were capitalised on by Magdalena to maximise her global profile. She started off with a strong natural beauty - classic face, dark haired, porcelain skin with modelling shots showing off her natural attributes. She began to morph into a strong beauty queen as her image and presentation was upped to higher standards - and I still believe has the ability to win Miss Universe NZ and compete strongly overseas. Her glam shot is an upside down pic - which really is testament to her that she still brings forth an inner radiance. Her headshot is sublime - my favourite and captures her extreme beauty. Her candid also captures her inner magic and blends beautifully with her exterior appearance.

Glam: 9.78 Headshot: 9.85 Candid: 9.77
Score: 9.80
Ranking: First place
Key words: Inner Radiance/Extreme Beauty

Miss NZ 2010: Cody Yerkovich

Image

Cody represented NZ at Miss World 2010 and was not a finalist. Her beauty comes from a rich cultural heritage interweaving Maori with Dalmation ancestry (interesting mix during colonial times in strong Maori areas like Kaitaia). She is tall and has an enigmatic beauty - sometimes she appears ethereal, other times young, naive, or on the other hand incredibly sexy and vampish. Cody is growing into her beauty and I think was not ready for the world stage - perhaps in a few years she could make a fine return. Her glam shot screams VIXEN - a body to die for, she looks unbelievably hot. Her headshot is pretty but not strong enough and she needs more work here to carve out her personality. Her candid is at MIss World, her pose looking a bit too overdone. Cody's power is in its simplicity. In this case, less would have been more.

Glam: 9.87 Headshot: 9.69 Candid: 9.39
Score: 9.65
Ranking: 3rd Place
Keywords: Enigmatic/Simplicity

Miss NZ 2011: Mianette Broekman

Image

Mianette represented NZ at Miss World 2011 and surprised even my own predictions by overall ranking in the Top 30 and placing as a Beach Beauty finalist. Her beauty is a mercurial one. Sometimes, she looks exotic and stunning, other times she can come across as a little plain. What DOES seem to emanate consistently from her though is a gentle, humble warmth and a simple grace that does shine through. Her candid is a sweet one - she is snapped helping out at a local gelato store (she is a good sport), her headshot is beautiful and also unnerving in a way, and her candid shows glamour plus on the red carpet. She is a beauty that evolves.

Candid: 9.72 Headshot:9.78 Glam: 9.79
Score: 9.76
Ranking: 2nd Place
Keywords: Mercurial/Emanating Warmth

RESULTS:

1. Magdalena 9.80
2. Mianette 9.76
3. Cody 9.65
4= Stephanie/Kahurangi 9.63

Best Candid: Stephanie 9.8
Best Headshot: Magdalena 9.85
Best Glam: Cody 9.87

Stay tuned for battle of Miss Universe NZ from the last five years!

You know what's funny? The Miss World NZ people hold the franchises for MW, MI, ME, MTQ, and Miss Supranational (I think). The New Zealand franchise for MU is held by a separate organization. Last year, the two winners for both pageants were crowned within days of each other. There hasn't been a traditional Miss New Zealand pageant in years. Part of me wishes that they could merge and create a new Miss New Zealand pageant. But I know that that's a hard sell.

Miss Universe NZ - last five years

Miss Universe NZ franchise returned in 2006 after absences from the Miss Universe Pageant in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Miss NZ 2007: Laural Barrett

Image

Laural won the contest in 2007 and was the first beauty queen to be exclusively followed throughout her preparation and during the international contest by Lucire Magazine (owner Jack Yan is Miss Universe NZ head judge). Laural personified a more modern beauty queen, a singer, performer and exuding both a sense of old school glamour as well as new school rock and roll, she oozes cool in a way that was also hot and sizzling as well. Her candid is fresh and covergirl feeling, her head shot shows her with her natural brunette look - her features softened though quite angular, and her glam shot giving a sense of her vampish beauty.

Scores: Candid: 9.80 Headshot: 9.72 Glam: 9.79
Average: 9.77
Ranking: Second place
Keywords: Old school glamour/New school cool

Miss NZ 2008: Samantha Powell

Image

Samantha won in 2008 and did not place at the international competition. She was more glittervegas than sophisticated which may have cost her. The most striking aspect of Samantha are her eyes - cat-like and green, when they are emphasized she really does look spectacular, much more so than when she is photographed more au naturale. She is known as a WAG (Wife and Girlfriend of All Black NZ Soccer player Tony Lochead). Her glam shot is a sleek Black and white shot that is also a little sexy. I think this is where her beauty could be pitched. Her headshot is really beautiful and her candid a poor quality pic of her at MU. She has the least photos on the internet which may make this assessment a little biased.

Scores: Glam: 9.79 Headshot: 9.78 Candid: 9.58
Average: 9.72
Ranking: Fourth place
Keywords: Cat-like/Subdued sex appeal

Miss NZ 2008: Katie Taylor

Image

Katie won the title in 2008 after having competed unsuccessfully a few years ago. She began the trend of contestants returning for a second shot and doing well. Katie had much promise, but her appearance at MU was marred by her horsey walk and her clattering performance in the evening gown competition. Whereas the latinas have flair and dazzle, Katie's attempt just looked like she was hyperactive. It really shows that our queens need the right training and polishing to perfect their moves on the runway. She is a very girl next door type and by all accounts very sweet. Her head shot shows the type of beauty she has, the one that would make Mom's happy if their sons brought a girl like this home.

Scores: Candid: 9.64 Headshot: 9.70 Glam: 9.68
Average: 9.67
Ranking: Fifth place
Keywords: Girl next door/Unpolished

Miss Universe 2010: Ria Van Dyke

Image

If the MUNZ judges preferred sweet apple pie in 2009, then this year they wanted an all out chocolate gateau extravaganza with all the trimmings - in the form of the hottest Miss NZ ever, Ria Van Dyke. Ria was supposed to have placed - she figured on almost every Top 20 list leading up to Miss Universe and was talked about all over the world. However conspiracy theories abound about her opportunities being wrecked by a jealous franchise owner, disagreements with MUNZ with her mother and her agent/mentor Susan Roger Allen (former coach/mentor to NZ's only Miss Universe, Lorraine Downes) after wearing outfits designed by La Casa Hermosa, an American design house. Ria was ousted from MUNZ duties and did not even get asked to crown her successor. She is to this day, the most googled Miss NZ and enjoys a lucrative modelling career.

Scores: Candid: 9.90 Headshot: 9.90 Glam: 9.90
Average: 9.90
Ranking: First Place
Keywords: Decadent/Powerful

Miss NZ 2011: Priyani Puketapu

Image

Priyani wont the 2011 title after placing first RU in 2009. That year, I wished Priyani had placed over Katie, and last year I wished Talia (1 RU) placed over Priyani! Priyani exemplifies the power of a positive attitude and working hard to achieve your goals. She quit her university studies to work full-time at her fathers meat works factory in Levin, in order to save enough money for the Miss Universe competition. Priyani has moments of looking a bit over rehearsed (her MU interview lacked any sense of eloquence or spontaneity) but other times she can emit a bit of sex appeal, like in her head shot and glam shot by Neil Gussey (who was responsible for Ria's meteoric caterpault). This guy needs to be hired by the MUNZ organisation as our own resident Fadil!

Scores: Glamshot: 9.80 Headshot 9.83 Candid: 9.65
Average: 9.76
Ranking: Third Place
Keywords: Attitude/Preparation

Results:

1st: Ria 9.90
2nd: Laural 9.77
3rd: Priyani 9.76
4th: Samantha 9.72
5th: Katie 9.67

Candid: Ria 9.90
Headshot: Ria 9.90
Glam: Ria 9.90

Complete clean sweep for Ria..... Stay tuned for Top 10 rankings of Miss NZ (Universe and World) 2007-11..

Re: Pathway to Miss Universe New Zealand 2012

Postby jgrayjnr » Sat Apr 07, 2012 1:13 am

Well while we wait for the official release of Miss Universe NZ contestants - the current batch of Miss World NZ contestants are enjoying a much better organised pageant with training, appearances and modelling - with an internet load of pics of the contestants already out there.

My PROBABLE Top 3 for MISS WORLD NZ based on how they appear continuously throughout the buildup are:-

EXOTIC - Jamie Lee is a definate front runner. I think she may be originally of South African and Indian descent - but she has an exotic brown look that makes her look Latina or Phillipina perhaps? She has a beautiful clear complexion and probably the most balanced face in the competition. She has a GREAT body. I like her, not entirely sure - but I like her potential.

Image

SHINE - Hannah has a classic blonde look and just pulls it off really well. She has a pretty face and exudes a warmth from her pics. I think her body could be a little more shapely and she needs to start finding an edge so she doesn't just fade into the sea of beauty. Could pull a surprise.

Image

DARK - Roimata has a really fascinating facial structure and she doesn't really know how to work it to its best advantage - YET. I think she is a smouldering beauty and I really like her hair, her eyes and her lips are so full. She needs to find angles so that her nose is balanced and she doesn't look too severe. I think she has "something" not sure exactly if it will translate yet though.

Image

Miss UNIVERSE NZ Updates..

In other news...Miss Wairarapa was crowned - the first for the region in 20 years (and she was crowned by Miss Wairarapa 1992 amazingly!)

Image

Good to see Wairarapa represented but that will probably be all she achieves at the MUNZ Nationals unfortunately..

And a snap of this years contenders Miss Auckland (blue ribbon) and Miss Otago (white jacket) with Miss Universe NZ 2011 Priyani and a runnerup from 2011. Monique, Miss Otago is THE one to beat.

Hi jgray

Yep Monique is still the one to beat in Miss Universe NZ so far. Am surprised Courtney Ramsdale wasn't amongst the bunch of girls pictured recently. Unfortunately she can only place as Val Lott was the organiser for Miss Celsius Gastrobar too - according to the poster for the pageant anyway. Any word on if Talia Bennett is going to vie for the title again this year??? I hope so - then she would be in with a grin for sure - with Monique nipping at her heals! Monique needs to style herself the same as she did for the Michael Hill Opening - STUNNING! I can't wait to see the line up!!!

Miss World NZ - I agree with Hannah - Roimata needs more time - she is absolutely stunning in some shots only, just needs work on her angles and poise, then she is ready to be sent overseas. Jamie Lee is ok, that pic is ok anyway, others I have seen not so much... Lisa Davids should be in there with a shot - she has represented NZ already and knows what to expect at an international pageant, she looks full of grace in all the pics I have seen - not so much with her Social Networking though... Luckily the pageants that these girls could go to aren't so hung up on height so my pics thus far would be Hannah and Lisa.

Your thoughts?

And what's the haps with Miss Wellington? Boy are they under wraps! Is there even going to be one? Only thing I have seen has been the StarNow call for entrants. Supposedly in May...

There were some gorgeous contestants last year. I hope this year they pick the right girl and advance to the finals.

Does anyone remember Tonia Peachey? Miss New Zealand Universe 2000? I remember the first time I saw her my mouth hit the floor, I can't believe she didn't make the top 10. That was the biggest highway robbery of that pageant.

Update....

Miss World NZ 2012 is the ultra glamourous redhead Collette Lochore! 18 year old model, 1.81m - stole the night with her classiness, height, poise and delivery. Youtube videos of her show that she has been working on her speech and Im quite impressed with her. She was nowhere on my radar throughout the competition but I love the fact that she came through for the finish line and I do think she was the perfect choice after seeing the coronation pics. This is a pic of her evening gown presentation, looking amazingly elegant!!

Image

The MUNZ trail has been a bit quiet - though my current two faves (or at least best prepared) Miss Auckland and Miss Otago have updated pics of themselves. I've noticed that Miss Auckland has been hanging out with last years winner Priyani and so maybe she'll be taking on all the tips. However at this stage my money is still on Monique. Her and Collette would be gorgeous winners for NZ.

Image

Image

@ Steveybaby - yeah no news for Miss Wellington (boring) and I doubt Courtney and Talia will come back again.I must say the way MWNZ prepared their candidates and gave them alot of social networking opportunity and raised something like $12,000 for charities is something Val really should be thinking about. Hannah is Miss International NZ and Gloria is Miss Earth NZ - surprising Lisa missed out in the competition - her swimsuit looked pretty hot.

@Kylet - yes I remember Tonia, I think she was good - could of done better for sure :)

Miss Wellington 2012

Image

Beautiful brides walking down the aisle of Old St Paul's Cathedral will be replaced with ballgown-clad beauty queen hopefuls in the Miss Wellington contest.

Seven belles will vie for the title as they model cocktail dresses and evening gowns as well as demonstrating their public speaking abilities in the event this Saturday.

For the first time, the contest will be held in the historic cathedral in Thorndon, which contestant Cassandra Wallis said will provide a unique atmosphere.

The 19-year-old dance student has been preparing for a month for the contest which has helped her grow her confidence.

''This is the first major pageant for me. It will give me the opportunity to meet new people and learn new skills, and being a dancer, being up on stage on show is my idea of fun, really.''

Her look would be elegant old-Hollywood red carpet, which she hopes she can pull off.

''It's about being approachable, walking with confidence, it's how you present yourself.''

The experience had been very positive so far.

''We're growing confidence skills to become confident young women. There's no bikini section... I think that's a really positive thing.''

Director Glenn London said he had been working hard to make the event a classy affair, fitting for the effort the contestants put in.

The winner of the contest will go on to compete in Miss Universe New Zealand, to be held in Wellington next month.

The show, featuring a jazz trio, kicks off at 7.30pm. Tickets are available though Eva's Attic, 174 Cuba St.

So again MUNZ is made up from girls who have been in the competition before? and there is nothing on the website. How did Miss NH have her 'reign' rolled over another year wasn't there a competition? Maybe about time NZ changed their pageant director??

Looks like Courtney Ramsdale is coming back again this year too, recent photos of her by photographer Andrew Bignall (like Talia's) have surfaced.

Seems like she's trying something different from last year and has found some Miss Universe quality sex appeal...could give Miss Otago a run for her money!

Well well well - TALIA'S BACK!! Seems like the Miss NH pageant didn't happen and so Talia was re-entered. A big challenge on her shoulders. I think she has to work hard to impress Jack and the judges, I dont think her interview skills are her strongest asset and it seems that's been the main factor for the last few years winners. She is beautiful and I hope she has done her homework.
I LOVE that there will be competition for Monique. May the best girl win. And Lauren's back as Miss Wellington? She needs some spark. She has the height but not the charisma.

OK so far you have at least three girls who were in it last year two were 'placed'. Mrs Lott has control of North Harbour, Wellington and Howick so they will do ok. There is nothing on the MUNZ website about current competitors. If NZ wants to do better internationally they need to put forward girls who do not rely on fake lashes, extensions and so on. Use your natural beauty there are plenty of them in New Zealand. Every year there are repeat competitors - maybe time to have a ruling that if they are placed they cannot come back?

Oh, that's not quite fair. I did a lot of pageants a few years back and, to be honest, pageants do not appeal to everyone but the girls that do them, love them and gain more and more experience with each show they do. And some times it takes a girl a few, if not quite a few, pageants of differing levels to really gain great confidence, poise and experience. I would hazard a guess that if you asked 20 young women, that you know, if they would enter a pageant, you would be lucky if one said yes. And it's only the local and regional shows that can have repeat representation - for the international shows, you can only go once. Also, extensions, lashes, push up bras, etc are just a fact of modern life.
