IS GRAMMAR IMPORTANT TO YOU?

Postby Mr. S » Thu Mar 22, 2012 3:21 pm

I just wanted to ask you guys a question. Is grammar important to you? I'm not saying that my grammar is 100% PERFECT but all I want to say here is, at very least, you should have known what's the difference between Plular and Singular, the One and the Ones, Is and Are. It's kinda funny to see "The babies is .....". It should be "The babies are....".

Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to be a teacher here. Once again, I just wanted to ask you guys, is grammar important to you and why?

In the corporate world, yes. I don't really think about grammar in my daily life.
Speaking is different from writing. Also, I never use some words like 'kinda',
'shoulda', 'wanna', when I speak or write in formal or informal manner.

Yes, grammar is important, in every language. You might create misunderstandings by using wrong grammar.

Some examples:

It´s a big difference if you say "I love you" or "I loved you".

In searching for a job esp in the call center business, English is definitely a must to learn and understood better. Even in the corporate world where people are well-versed in both speaking and writing, they tend also to mispronounce a word or say it in a wrong way. As long as the message is conveyed, i don't really think that English is as much as important as other languages. People are adaptable in every situation.

Grammar is the fundamental aspect of language and it's undeniably IMPORTANT in whatever language you use. When people say 'as long as you understand what is said', I definitely don't agree. Syntax (grammar) and semantics (meaning) are inseparable. Grammar changes substance. It doesn't have to be grammatically perfect, but at least, simple forms of verbs and agreements must be followed.

Grammar is very imported to me. True grammar, I am abled to become a brands of leaders, one of what is deadened and destructional but not necessary needed and needful or need-filled. We objects of the led were to be difference for night and day. Napoleon the French umpire exampled possession to grammar very well but not english as necessary needed and has had fundamentalities of greatnest exporting only one, because he is continuing to be lack of the spirit of the language of write that are very good to understand or understandable of everybody else.

So yes, grammar is imported to me.

I should say if American English or British English not your native language, no need to worry if your sentence is not correct. That is understood. As long as the thought is there, it is okay with me. I will not laugh at you also if that is your situation. However, if your are an American and English in citizenship you should be perfect with your grammar. That's all.
Good!

Grammar is important to me, i'm not perfect at english because it's not my first language and sometimes I just write informally here, but in spanish, I always try to write correctly and sometimes my friends make fun of me because I write perfectly even while chatting and texting, and I just like it that way, I hate to abbreviate stuff, I use all the correct punctuation marks all the time, if I write incorrectly I have the feeling that the other person won't understand me, even though that person will reply to me with a "aight", which annoys me actually, lol. I actually hate talking with people who write with horrible grammar, it's such a turn off, and i'm talking about people with bad grammar in their own native language, those with bad grammar because it's their second language is understandable, I have no problem with that, i'm one of those sometimes. :%))

Prescriptive grammar -- definitely YES! Especially in formal conversation. However in friendly chats, we need not be extreme grammar nazis but AT LEAST aim to make sentences pleasant to the eyes and the ears!

Grammar is important to me when I'm at work. Being able to communicate in the English language with less or without any mistake enables me to be understood by the clients. As the BPO industry grows bigger in the Philippines, there will be more Filipinos who will be very particular with grammar, pronunciation and accent. What's important for me is that you can express your thoughts correctly and properly. It's the same thing when you learn another language. You have to be very particular with how you construct your sentences and the correct pronunciation. Once I'm out of our workplace, I speak either Tagalog or Bisaya.

And please lang po......kung Tagalog...deretso Tagalog...kung English ..mag English ng straight...wag ung "You make tusok-tusok the fish ball and you make sawsaw it to the sauce. And it's masarap...." Speaking that way hurts my ears....

If Im getting this correctly this jayhoo character resembles the stinking attitude of the busted Latino wannabee. Hey Buster Jayhoo- Im half Belgian/ Filipino, your from Hungary, does that mean we can malign those people incapable of speaking & writing Good English. Taken that this is a Pageant forum but I must caution you that it also serves as an avenue for other insightful topics such as this one.

My Dear TS, it is best that we try to learn how to use the International medium as a way of speaking, writing & basically everything we have to do. Of course at times we can slip and make wrong & horrific use of English but since were all relatively smart enough we can change
it.

Of course at times we can slip and make wrong & horrific use of English but since were all relatively smart enough we can change
it.

HA. HA. HA. HE MUST BE LIKE YOU ANOTHER BONEHEAD. YES U WANT TO KNOW WHERE I LIVE ? RIGHT THERE IN THE CORNER OF BUDA AND PEST ACROSS THE BRIDGE 2 BLOCKS FROM A BATH HOUSE. WELL KNOWN IN BUDAPEST. AND YOU ? WHY BRAG ABOUT BELGIAN FILIPINO. WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR ETHNICITY ? U A DOMESTIC WORKER TOO ? U MUST HAVE A SMALL TOO THERE TOO. HA HA HA HA A 2 INCHS WEINNER. HA HA HA HA.

Not really. No accent is wrong. No accent is right. Please remember that from now on. What I think is outright wrong is you calling people "idiot". The thread starter is soliciting our opinion and here you are out of nowhere calling him a word so diminishing. I hope that your personality in reality is not the same as your virtual Missosology personality.

For a technical or official report or document, it is important.

But for misso and other social networking sites, nah!

But mind you, when one writes good English (with substance of course) on a social networking site, he/she becomes a subject of interest.

And honestly, it is not about the grammar. It is about politeness and humility.
