Top 8 1st cut: Raising or Lowering the Standards?

In the turn of events that Miss Earth Org. reportedly decided to cut from 80-90 delegates to just 8 instead of usual top 10-16 in the past years. This year they will recognize the top scorers of each categories at the expense of decreasing the number of semifinalists. Do you think this huge cut will raise or lower the standards in choosing the next Miss Earth?

Note:
1. In 2014 & 2015 ICA decided to cut the number of semifinalists to 10 instead of 12/15 in the past.
2. At 65th Miss Universe, MUO decided to cut the number of semifinalists to 12 (+additional 1 slot for fans' choice) instead of 15/16/20 in the past.
3. In 2013-2015, MWO announce the 10 highest scorers from the combined interviews and challenge events from the 20-25 shortlisted quarterfinalists to make it as semifinalists, while an additional spot was given to the Peoples' choice winner in the top 10 semifinalists in 2014-2015.
4. At Miss Asia Pacific International 2005, the organizers decided to cut from over 50 contestants to just 5 after evening gown presentation.

So long they choose the right and worthy girls to make the top 8 semifinalists, then I'm fine with it...

Who says that? Let MEO Carousel do their thing. Whatever segment was taken off would have to be compesated by another segment that shall keep the telecast worth its keep. I'm quite certain going straight to the "Top 8, 1st Cut" is not a deliberate decision. There are other of issues that may factor in - - - air time live and its equivalent broadcast charges could be one among them - - - and a host of other considerations that can equate to unrealistic payables. Beyond 2 straight hours, a live show as that of a beaucon, may be too dragging for international audiences to take.

Unfortunately some netizens were not happy with the possible changes of the 1st cut of the competition. They think Top 8 1st cut was too hard to swallow unless they will watch the livestream coverage of this year's pre-judging competition.

It's nothing worse than having 70 delegates parade in national costume, swimsuit and evening as part of a five-hour show!

You know which pageant I'm pertaining to.. =;))

I think going straight to the top is a better idea only IF...that's a big IF...if they do the same thing in the Miss Philippines Earth where they announced the top 16 in the three categories during pre-judging: Beauty of Figure and Form, Beauty of Face and Poise and Intelligence and Dedication.

Come to think of it...the only reason why we want the top 16 to be announced is to recognize more candidates. Naming the top 16 in the three categories could actually name more candidates in totality--could even reach as many as 30 delegates recognized in one single night. This is now the chance of most african canditates who figured most in the interview portion to be recognized. Just imagine a top 16 in intelligence category and seeing almost all of the african deligates coming down the stage instead of just one delegate recognize in the regular top 16 in the past editions. Isn't that amazing to those countries involve? And for the many beautiful Latina's and European delegates to figure most of the top 16 in the beauty of face--will that make them proud to belong into this category?

So for me, as long as they recognize the best in every category--it is alright to go straight to the top 8. It would be so nerve-wracking to wait who will advance to this elite 8.

OMG! LOL!

I actually welcome that innovation.
It will reduce airtime yet they will feature more girls on stage because they will be announcing the Top 16 of each category. Logically, announcing another set of Top 16 for quarterfinals is an OVERKILL!

Hence, it's only practical and logical to announce Top 8 after all those 16 topnotchers in every category.

I actually disagree with cindy_kato that this will be a way to squeeze in Karen Ibasco. It will actually be a way to eliminate her early. >:)

Will these unhappy netizens help shoulder additional costs of airtime due to an extended live telecast? Carousel is probably trying to rationalize costs to keep afloat. Thy can't please everyone that's for sure!

Well I don't understand why they need to announce the top 16 of every event on TV. They can release it on social media.

But I agree that there should be a top 16 for every event. Then whoever gets the highest combine score will be part of the semifinals. 14 will be coming from these combine scores. 1 will be coming from the best Eco video, a compensation for the message and creativity and expenses. It's not easy to create a professional, meaningful, and earth moving 5min video er. Then the last spot will come from Eco Warrior award for their unwavering support and full commitment to the cause of the pageant and to Mother Earth.

I can see Karen Ibasco topping almost all, except one, aspect of competition.

In the end, she will still be part of the elusive Top 8.

Too early to count Karen out yet! Unfortunately, you're just a hapless armchair observer. You're not a judge it's everyone's game at this point.

THIS ONE IS APPLICABLE FOR MISS EARTH PHILIPPINES BUT NOT IDEAL FOR THE INTERNATIONAL FINALS !!! ITS HEARTBREAKING TO SEE A COUNTRY NOT BEING INCLUDED IN ANY OF THE CATEGORY !!!
