What Miss International Lacks

Postby sissymeow » Fri Jun 19, 2020 5:48 am

When i think about Miss International, i always think of "ethereal beauty". I love the crown, the cape and the rituals in crowing the winner. This pageant stamped itself in producing very beautiful winners However, the recent pageant production is a bit plain and simple. When it was held in China, the production was very modern and extravagant but when it came back to Japan, the production became very minimalist. The event duration is too long but nevertheless, this pageant is still one of may fave. Any thoughts?

The pageant activities are amazing, but one thing that is really lacking with the pageant gala itself is the entertainment value. It is close to ZERO, if I may bluntly say it. However, Miss International has survived through the years without relying on gimmickry. No switching of winners. No collapsing on stage after being announced as a winner. No public shaming of winners from other pageants. No manipulation of results for the sake of political correctness. But still, these are not excuses for us to level up the production and entertainment value of the final show. Will definitely work hard on that one for next year!

There are so many walls that we need to break within the organization. Last year, we were able to do a lot of changes. We had glam shots! OMG! Who would have thought that we would be able to achieve that! We cut the show into 3.5 hours! Hahahaha!!! As I slowly jump up the ladder in terms of power and involvement in the Miss International pageant night production, I hope that by next year, I will have full control over the production concept. Last 2019, I think they already realized what I was capable of.

Not gonna lie, the production value of Miss International is SO BORING, I fell asleep watching it. :zzz It's almost impossible to keep your eyes open for 4+ hours watching a show like that, cause it literally looks like a Wikipedia page. Miss France is a show around 3 hours but I'd still watch it 5 times a day because the production is IMMACULATE.

Miss International has been doing the same concept of white stage and stairs for decades. It's "iconic", royal and very signature of the pageant, but it's getting kinda old now. I think it's time for the Japanese people to really step up their game in terms of pageant production in the country. Or maybe just host it in China from now on, either is fine (I could never forget the crowning moment fireworks in 2009).

But regardless, Miss International still deserves its spot in the Big4 for its properness, hospitality of the women, and strong and relevant advocacy. MGI could never.
zont zo it.

Ms. International is completely unknown in the U.S. I see no effort to promote it outside of countries where pageants are a big deal. Surely, the winner of Ms. International should get more exposure in major markets, instead of just being sent straight to her home country and wait for next year's crowning ceremony. There is no prestige in oblivion.

For me, I think I'm one of those people who really like the production, very formal and well disciplined.
enjoy and have fun

MI should hire a YOUNG, VIBRANT & INNOVATIVE creative group - that will be in charge of their production on the final night.
I think MI is really doing great behind the stage and during the pageant activities, but for the final night, they really have to change it.

There are politics within the process of hiring of a production group (which will produce the show), which is one of the biggest and thickest walls that I have to break. Hopefully next year, I will be able to tear down that wall!

I totally agree! Mariem went to Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Ecuador, Panama, Mexico, Dominican Republic and with some low-profile trips to the US (Florida) and Spain. She was scheduled to go to India and France, but there were conflicts in her exam schedule so that did not push through.

This year, there would have been more of those trips for Bint, but we both know that it's impossible as of now.

There is no sense in making our winner stay in Japan considering the fact that we don't want her studies or career be sacrificed for a year. Japanese believe that it is hard to go back to society when you take time off and come back as if nothing happened. So, our winner has to return to her home country, continue with her education or profession, and be available for some events when she's needed. Her cash prize of nearly $27,500 is good enough (while she can earn more if she remains working in her country).

I like the prestige of this pageant. It is staying true to its Core.

The tradition and pre pageant activities are its strengths

But i agree its production value needs to improve and yes the queen needs to be more visible.

But overall i give this pageant 100 out of 100 for credibility and consistency.

This ain’t a copy cat pageant And I love it for that.

Japan, the production became very minimalist.

THIS. JAPANESE MISMO MINIMALIST YAN TALAGA SILA. THEY ARE FOCUSING TO THE CORE OF THE PAGEANT. SENSITIVITY OF CULTURE. THUS SIMPLICITY AND AUTHENTICITY.

I AGREE ON 'ENTERTAINMENT VALUE' THAT'S WHY IT'S TIME TO HOLD THE PAGEANT NA OUTSIDE JAPAN. PARA PAK NA PAK ANG PRODUCTION VALUE.

To be honest, Japanese can do lively and jaw-dropping shows. You should see the EXILE concerts and several musical shows produced by Johnny's Entertainment. Even the annual Tokyo Girls Collection fashion show is so lively and entertaining despite the horrific catwalk of the models!

The problem is within the ICA. The people are so conservative. Too Parisian. Too alta. They don't seem to appreciate a show with lots of movements. They want it to look like a ballroom event in Versailles (the real one, not the Alabang one)... It's so tacky for my taste, but it is what it is. I've tried so hard to include some more "ginger" to the show, but the ICA doesn't want the girls to spend more time for rehearsals. According to my boss, that's not the reason why we invited the beauty ambassadors to Japan.
