Reasons Why MS. INTERNATIONAL is Still a GS Pageant

A lot of you here might not give a damn about Miss International. For some, it is just another made in China pageant, which does not really have significance in the world of pageantry. There might also be some of you who would say that MI is a racist pageant, and should no longer be considered a grand slam pageant at all.

At some point, I have also thought of the same things. However, if we are to take a closer look into the pageant, we can safely say that Miss International deserves to be a grand slam pageant after all. Here are some of the reasons in which I can PERSONALLY say so;

1. It is one of the longest running pageants in history. Since its inception in 1960, it has continued to run until now. Other than 1966 in which it has not done the pageant, the rest of the years were successful. This goes to show that MI has survived the test of times and has jumped through all the hurdles that could pull them down as a major pageant.



2. It does not need too much publicity and noise to be sustained. Some pageants might really go for publicity, whether positive or negative, just to be talked about and get the attention of corporate sponsors. MI on the other hand knows how to handle their finances well to run the pageant without necessarily going for cheap publicity stunts.



3. MI is the least controversial of all pageants. Despite the fact that it is not as grandiose as other pageants, it maintained its dignity and integrity over the years. It is the only pageant with no dethroned queen. It is the one of the pageants that has maintained a very dignified relationship with its winners year after year. In short, we can definitely trust how the pageant is being run by its people.

4. MI is consistent in crowning FACIALLY BEAUTIFUL delegates. If we are to take a look at the winners of MI in the past decade, we can safely say that they always have a facially stunning winner. The winner might be an expected winner or someone who comes out of surprise. Yet, this girl ends up to be loved and admired by many. Other than a few years, throughout the history of MI, the winner is always a deserving one.



5. MI is a league of its own. This pageant does not survive by means of following what other major pageants have started. It might have been bashed for heavily favoring white girls. Yet, they don’t care. They might also be bashed for crowning Latinas consecutively. Yet, MI could only care less. They might also be bashed for an outdated crown and a tacky one at that. Yet, they have made use of the same crown year after year. This only goes to show that Miss International is a brand of its own. It does not have to please the people just to survive. The organization knows the kind of girl that they want for the title. They do not even care if they only have 50 delegates or less. In short, it is indeed a big challenge for several countries to find a girl that would match the prototype of a Miss International.

In Defense of Miss International



1. Some of you might say that MI does not want an African for the title. They even discriminate black women in the pageant. Well, let us take a look at the number of African countries joining the pageant. With only 3 to 5 delegates from the continent as compared to dozens of delegate from Asia, Europe and Americas, there is a very little chance for them to make it. If they want more Africans to penetrate the semis, they should try to at least join. Black women are also not discriminated in the pageant. Some of them even place. The only problem is that most of the black women joining this pageant are not worthy of a placement. Take a look at the delegates in the past and you will know why.



2. MI is also criticized for not being as grand as MU or MW. It is very boring and dry. Well, the only problem I see here is that MI does not televise or broadcast all its activities as compared to MU. However, looking at what the girls have gone through prior to the pageant night, we can safely say that these girls have gone through a lot. MI even has a clear way of selecting the girls who will make the cut. Some major pageants have pre- pageant activities, but we are definitely uncertain if these activities have bearing on the final results.

Points to Improve On

As I have said, MI should still be a major pageant given the reasons I have mentioned. However, just like MU, MW, or ME, this pageant also has a lot of areas to improve on.



1. Reign of the winner. I think it is high time for MI to at least let the people know what their queen is doing during her reign. However, it does not mean that they are way behind other pageants. In fact, other pageants also do not have clear activities for their girl throughout the year. Judging pageants? Attending shows? Come on, these activities are not necessarily a part of their major duties. Therefore, if MI can establish a clear duty and set of activities for their queen, it would be very easy for them to be appreciated.

2. Location of the pageant. This year, I am very happy that MI is moving back to Japan. However, it does not really go out of China and Japan that often. Therefore, if possible, MI should try to explore other possibilities. For sure, with the name that they have built over the years, they can find other countries to hold their pageant.

3. Broadcast. This is also where MI fails a little. If the candidates don’t constantly post their personal pics during the pageant, we will really not have a clear idea of what is happening during the pageant.

4. Production. This aspect is already slightly improving. I mean, I like the fact that MI is not heavily affected by modern trends. It still maintained its classiness over the recent years. However, just like last year, if they can inject more modern twists to the pageant, it will really be spectacular.

In short, Miss International is a beauty pageant in its own right. Not all of us might admire it for its difference with other fiercer pageants, but it is definitely something to look forward to. I don’t convince you to join me in admiring this pageant. However, I believe that it should still be among the top pageants in the world. I also don’t say that it is the best GS pageant. In fact, I have raised some points for it to improve on. Thanks for reading and more to come for Miss International!

Even though she was scientifically enhanced, the girl was still beautiful especially during the Miss Venezuela telecast! She looked like a million bucks. During MI, of course, she also looked good. I wonder why everyone labeled her as horrible or creature stuff

ok, i got to be honest here. . when ive said, "except for a few years", i was referring to 2010 as one of those years. . .
i think MI really f*cked up the results that year. . . they have tons of superbeauties in their hands, Philippines, Costa Rica, France, Brazil, Czech Rep,
and many more. . but they opted for 3 of the plainest girls. .
i have no issue with surgeries. . in fact, Mosquera really bloomed during MI compared to her MV days. .
however, given he fact that there were better delegates, i was really surprised when she won. .
i was even more disappointed when the goddess Barboza's placement was affected because of her
and for sure, my girl, Blanca will also suffer because of that. . tsk tsk. .
but if u like her, ive got no problems with that. .

A beauty pageant is not about the TV Production. It does not only revolve in how to showcase the whole production in television. Miss International might be very weak in TV production but it has the essence of the name "BEAUTY PAGEANT". As we all know, all the winners of MI are stunning; which is the main purpose of beauty pageant; to select the most beautiful girl. Every pageant has its own pros and cons. It might has the weakest TV production among Universe, World, Supranational, Earth and TQI but it is a highly regarded beauty pageant..

Also, I still believe that MI is the third biggest beauty pageant after MU and MW.

For me the only problem that they have is that they are always trying to include black beauties who came from latin or other black beauties from america but they never tried to include a real black african girl from africa.... In the history of MI i think there were only few times that they included an african girl in a semis.... Just once in a blue moon

I believe their CROWN is really regal and exquisite.


Politics is not really a factor for them to pick the winner.
