I agree to some extent. However, what I like about this girl is her naturalness... she's proving you don't need to be a fake Miss Puerto Rico in order to get noticed. She is very Miss World. Sometimes I see a slight resemblance between Amanda and Johanna Solano, Miss Costa Rica Universe 11' ...

Yes, that's why I say her looks can work in her advantage at MW. But she is just nowhere near my taste. Still support her though...it isn't Miss Universe.

BIOGRAPHY

Amanda is in the process of completing a degree in comparative literature. Her future ambitions are to complete a PHD in literature and have an anthology of poems published. Hobbies include dancing, keeping active and eating her mother’s home cooking.


INTERVIEW

Tell us a little something about your Country ?
Puerto Rico is a country in the Caribbean. It has a tropical climate which is wonderful because I get to live in eternal summer.

Future ambitions?

To complete my PHD in Literature; to prepare myself as an actress and finally publish an anthology of poems.

Describe yourself

I am a disciplined person who cares deeply for the well-being of others. Literature is a great part of my life.

Personal Motto?

Hard work and discipline are the keys to success.

Favourite food?

I love all kinds of food, particularly a good plate of rice and beans, friend chicken, hummus, sushi and pizza.

Favourite Music / Books?

I love salsa, meringue, jazz and ‘The Beatles’. I read a lot but my favourite books are ‘Cien Anos de Soledad’, ‘1984’ and ‘Cloud Atlas’.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have three lovely dogs: two daschunds and a mixed-breed.

What is the proudest moment of your life or most memorable day?

I can think of many memorable moments but the proudest would have to be the day I was told that one of my poems would be published in the University copy of Puerto Rico’s literary magazine ‘Tonguas’.

Special Talents?

Acting, choreographing and writing.

Any other interesting facts?

I love watching good movies, and then talking about them.

I really don't know what to expect from this pageant since it's so unpredictable but I wish with all my heart that Amanda could bring us that 2nd crown because I know she can be a great MW.

Al guía de mi Honda Accord, parada en una luz roja, con el celular entre el oído y el hombro, labial en mano, gafas puestas y diecisiete compromisos con los que cumplir, me di cuenta de que este asunto de ser reina es una dulce locura…

Eres deportista en la mañana, modelo a mediodía y bailarina al anochecer. En el entremedio, corres de cita en cita, de foto en foto, de nube en nube y sientes que flotas un poco y que la vida sin todo esto no es vida.

Entre un personaje y otro, mi cuerpo ha tenido el honor de ser un lienzo. Posada en el centro del cuarto de entalle, una dama me arropó con una tela blanca y sobre ella la mano de un artista trazó una posibilidad.

El lápiz me causaba cosquillas al rozar mi piel y el apretón de un alfiler ceñía a mi figura la promesa de otro vestido hermoso. En las manos del Diseñador de Reinas, Carlos Alberto cualquiera se siente como realeza. Sólo con aquel patrón sobre mi talle, imaginaba una corona sobre mi cabeza.

Admiré su faz mientras trazaba y vi una mirada muy parecida a la mía cuando me siento a escribir.

Hay un brillo casi loco cuando una idea se hila a la otra, y se escapa una sonrisa en el momento de mayor revelación. Tras ese instante maravilloso, regresé al auto, mire mi agenda, llamé por teléfono y le resté un día más al conteo regresivo de mi partida.

Cada visita a un diseñador cobra un sabor particular. Una es tan relajada y hermosa como la ropa que crea, otra es tan locuaz y jovial como sus piezas y a otro le brota desde la sien la sutil elegancia que caracterizan sus vestidos. Sus creaciones son un reflejo claro de su psique y de su personalidad.

¡Qué única es la gente que se dedica a crear! Los artistas viven en su propio frenesí, y los rastros de su delirio nos los regalan en su arte.

Hay algo de locura en todos los grandes sueños, en las nuevas ideas y en las aspiraciones no convencionales.

Cuando surge la oportunidad de lanzarse tras lo deseado, apenas sobra tiempo para preguntarse: “¿Podré lograrlo?” Me encuentro en medio de la vorágine que son los últimos días, intentando junto a mi equipo atar todos los cabos sueltos. Se entremezclan la creatividad, la brillantez y la demencia.

Hay cientos de ilusiones en el aire…

En algún momento de lo que resta de este camino, mi equipo y yo hemos de ser enteramente sabios, como lo son los grandes. Persistiremos en la locura deliciosa de esta empresa, declarando la victoria cada día y trabajando en pos de ella a todas horas.

He visto a los mejores diseñadores, peluqueros, bailarines y artistas y reconozco su desenfreno y erudición.

Junto a ellos he ganado sabiduría y con ellos he compartido mi locura. Gracias a todos aquellos que me han traído hasta aquí, sin ustedes no sería quien soy.

Y gracias, sobre todo, por haberme vuelto loca y sabia en el proceso. Gracias por el honor de tenerlos como lectores.
