Melissa Hammoumraoui, a 20 year-old biotechnology student from Algiers, was crowned tonight as Miss Algeria 2022. The new Miss Algeria enjoys ballet, singing, playing guitar and ukulele. While her career ambition is to purse a PhD and work in cancer research.




Melissa’s court includes 1st runner-up Racha Belgaid, 2nd runner-up Imene Benzaid, 3rd runner-up Fedwa Benahmed and 4th runner-up Manel Ougaida. Manel Ougaida was also sashed as Miss Photogenic and Ikram Sadaoui as Miss Friendship.







The televised finale was held at the Vendome Khaled Hotel in the city of Oran, amongst 8 finalists.

Yes the contest was cancelled twice because of Covid and sponsor issues. They have lost some gorgeous contenders because of these cancellations. But the contest and the winner this year are decent, compared to the 2019 fiasco.

In a radio interview at Alger Chaine 3 tonight, the ND Faycal Hamdad confirmed that he still holds the license for MW and that Melissa will go to the next MW edition. He says this every year so only time will truly tell.



As for Melissa she is a very eloquent speaker for her age and her BWAP is geared towards recycling and zero waste principles. Let’s hope she really gets to compete at MW or Miss Universe!

2022 is the Algeria's year, Europe ask to Algeria more and more gas, and this because is forbidden to import gas from Russia. This mean more and more moneys for algerian.

The gas revenues will not affect the finances of the Miss Algeria pageant simply because the Algerian government does not sponsor this contest. Miss Algeria relies on private sponsors and it’s been struggling to attract them even more since the pandemic hit.

However the Miss Universe org can easily bring Algeria to its stage like it insisted on bringing Morocco and Bahrain and like Miss World org insisted on bringing Somalia.

But I also believe there has been a lack of interest from the Miss Algeria org to compete internationally and I don’t buy into their typical excuses of visa and sponsor issues.

It’s simply unjustifiable that some starving African countries and other insignificant island nations get to compete annually in Miss Universe/ MW but not the largest country in Africa.
