AngHaraya’s Miss World 2012 FINAL CHOICES

116 girls from different parts of the world, but only one will wear the coveted blue crown.

2012 is a milestone year for Miss World. It marks the biggest turn out of delegates in its 62-year history. Fast tracks have been renames as challenge events. Recognizing the power of social media in influencing people, the org also launched the Multimedia Award.

For a month, the girls were put under the microscope in order to find the best successor to Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela. A number of names are clear favourites for the crown, but only one will prevail.

At this point, I would like to present my final choices for Miss World 2012:

The fashionable.

Gabriella is vying for a back-to-back feat for Venezuela, but I strongly say it won’t happen. Obviously, she has been ignored in most events, and only managed to make it in the Top Model semis. I can't deny that she's charismatic and well-trained. And look how fabulous her wardrobe has been! She is also among the most consistent in terms of styling. However, I really have a strong feeling that she will be left out of the top 15. But when I was completing this list, I can’t find anyone who has the goods like the 14 other girls here. In any case, Gabriela has the ribbon advantage. As the saying goes, never count Venezuela out.

The bombshell.

She may appear as “pornish” for some, but this essentially made Evgenia stand out. The combination of sultriness and pretty face seems a hit, because she placed in four events. This has made her prove detractors wrong. She may be a complete opposite of last year’s refined and reserved Zhanna, but Evgenia is a good follow-up to keep Kazakhstan’s momentum going.

The undervalued.

Underestimated by many, Janelee was considered a downgrade from Amanda Villanova. But she proved naysayers wrong by placing in the Beach Fashion and Top Model events. She is Caribbean's best in terms of facial beauty. Her styling isn't overdone and her wardrobe is good. Who would forget how sexy yet regal she was on that blue gown during World Designers event? That moment sealed the deal for Janelee. She is a proof that rigid preparation pays off. Add to that a strong ribbon, who knows Puerto Rico might penetrate the top 7 again.

The sentimental favourite.

I was rooting for her at first, but it seems she has been losing momentum. But a beauty like her won't be counted out. She is very charming and engaging, especially when she is talking. Her singing voice is a plus, making her in the Talent round. She may have benefited from her height advantage because she entered the Top Model semis. Despite her not-so-good figure, she still managed to break in the Beach Fashion. Overall, she is a decent candidate, and I wouldn’t mind seeing her in the top 3. After all, she is my sentimental favourite this year.

The model.

Aránzazu can be considered as one of the best models of the competition with her top 10 placement in the Top Model event. Though she may look mature in some photos, she still manages to be noticeable, add to that those piercing eyes. ribbon could be her greatest drawback, but I believe her archetypal Spanish beauty could be her weapon toward a semifinals slot.

The angelic face.

She was among the girls taken lightly at the start of the pageant. I initially thought she was just an ordinary European with lacklustre personality, but I was mistaken. Soon as she set foot in Ordos, she started to gain solid ground. Her winsome smile and angelic face can light up even the dullest room. Performance-wise, I think she has done well, being in the semis of Beach Fashion and top 10 in Top Model, where I think she has an edge. She may have a weak ribbon, but it is har to pay no heed to a face like her.

The mob’s choice.

I have to take back what I said before that Mariana is “the most overrated girl in the competition”. I am now convinced that she is not just hype, but a woman of substance in all aspects of the competition. I never discounted the fact that she is very beautiful, but I still can’t see the winning aura in her. Being included in three challenge events, I would be very surprised if she misses the cut.

The consistent diva.

All aspects considered – look, body, performance – I can say Barbara is the most consistent girl in the competition. She is well-prepared, needless to say refined. She also has the classic Latina features that are simply hard to ignore. Her top 10 finish in Beach Beauty could be a good sign that she may be heading toward victory. It’s about time Colombia places again in Miss World.

The black Barbie.

Since her stint in Miss Earth 2010, Atong has already captured my attention. She failed to place then. Now, she joined Miss World, where black delegates are given better chances of placing. Armed with her inimitable complexion and height, she managed to make waves in Ordos. She did not disappoint, and placed in the top 10 in Top Model! Without a doubt, Atong is the best from Africa.

The body.

I have to admit, I wasn’t a fan of Sophie before the pageant kicked off. I really thought she was just eyes (which I consider her lucky charm), but I was immediately swayed when I saw her in bikini. Wales definitely has the best body in the competition, and placing in the Beach Fashion top 10 confirms that. Aside from that, she is very enthralling and her facial features are so striking. She could also pull a big surprise come finals night.

The underdog.

Still not a fan of Deanna, but I am convinced she is a strong candidate from Jamaica, and the whole of Caribbean. She may not be a hit in the beauty department, but her good showing in the challenge events (she placed in four) is enough to prove that she deserves to be on this spot. Aside from this, she has a strong ribbon to boost her chances.

The talented.

After breaking a drought last year, the Philippines made sure they will keep up with their goal of getting their first MW crown. Queenierich is the perfect choice because she is well-rounded. Despite having only three-weeks to prepare, she came to Ordos well-prepared and refined. This is very evident with her set of clothes and styling. She also brought her greatest weapon: beat boxing! As of this writing, her video performance has gone viral over the net, even reaching the pages of The Huffington Post and TIME. This is good publicity not only for Queenierich, but also for Miss World Org as they have been getting international attention. This could boost the Philippines chances of getting that elusive crown. If not for the row between China and the PHL over the Scarborough Shoal, it would be easy to conclude that Queenie has strong chances of becoming the PHL’s first Miss World. But she has to settle for at the most a runner-up finish if politics will come into play.

The total performer.

Name it, she can do it! Making it into four challenge events is already a feat in itself, what more making it into the top 10 of two events. Her experience in Miss International (where she represented Lebanon), might have played a big role in honing Jessica into a good pageant girl. She’s good on the ramp, she is always styled well, and she knows exactly what she’s doing. Her face may not be flawless, but she has the allure and intellect to make her a well-rounded beauty. She seems determined to win, and for that, she must be commended.

The host delegate.

She is not at par with Zhang Zilin in the beauty department, but Wen Xia has the sophistication fit for a queen. Her placement in four challenge events may be partly attributed for being the host country’s delegate. However, I can safely say she made it on her own merits. Competitive as they really are, China won’t settle for anything less that top 7, so brace yourselves because this girl might win it all.

The silent killer.

Many may not consider her as the one to beat, but being a total performer throughout the competition justifies this placement for Mariana. She has definitely turned critics into believers when she placed in three challenge events, most especially when she was called in the top 10 of both Beach Fashion and Top Model. This also means height didn’t play a disadvantage to her because she got noticed because of her adorable face, and magnetic aura. She looks very sincere and prepared to become a queen. Naysayers claim she looks old; I say her beauty is of a matured lady ready to conquer the world with her worthwhile causes. Toward the end of the pageant, she has proven that she is indeed the best of Americas. Indeed, no one can put a good candidate down.

Except Poland, Venezuela and Puerto Rico, I agree with all your choices. These three are beautiful, do not have a prob with that, but I just don't think their overall performances are strong enough (PR is currently among my Top20, Poland and Venezuela Top30). But they may all place. As I said, they are beautiful.
We have the same Top3, only I have Jessica and Mariana's places switched.
