This year, Colombia's most important beauty pageant celebrates its 62nd edition and 80th anniversary of existence.

Miss Colombia 2014 will represent the country in Miss Universe 2015. The 1st Runner Up will compete in Miss International the same year.

In order to integrate Colombia through the beauty of its women, and as part of the celebration of the fourth centenary of the foundation of Cartagena de Indias, in 1934 was launched the Miss Colombia pageant (Concurso nacional de belleza or CNB).
A 19 year - old Cartagenian girl who represented Bolívar, María Yolanda Emiliani Román, was crowned as the first Miss Colombia in history.
It was not until 1947 (after II world war) when the pageant was held again, and after 13 years of have ported the crown, Yolanda crowned her successor: María de la Piedad Gómez Román, her cousin, also from Bolívar.
Between 1949 and 1955, the pageant was a biennial competition.

In 1957, Miss Antioquia Doris Inés Gil Santamaría was crowned Miss Colombia giving to her department its 1st crown. Months later she resigned to get married, (Doris and her husband were kidnaped in 2002 and murdered in 2003) and the Virreina, Miss Caldas, Luz Marina Zuluaga Zuluaga assumed the title and represented the country in its debut at Miss Universe pageant 1958. Winning till now, the only Crown for Colombia in the mentioned pageant.
In 1959, a girl named Olga Pumarejo Korkor (she didn't compete in CNB) was appointed to represent Colombia in Miss Universe, she placed in the top 15.
Later the same year, Miss Nariño Stella Márquez Sawadski was crowned as Miss Colombia. She represented the country in Miss Universe 1960 and placed in the top 15. Stella also competed in Miss International 1960 and won the crown.

Since 1961, the pageant has been held annually and the winners have represented Colombia in Miss Universe the following year of their crowning.

The winners of 1980 and 1981 were sent to Miss World. CNB lost the Miss Universe franchise in those years. Two women were appointed by another org to represent Colombia in Miss Universe.. Both were unplaced.

- In 1947, Cartagena was declared the permanent host city of the pageant.
- The department with more crowns is Atlántico with eleven. Followed close by Valle, with ten. Coincidentally, since 2010 only these two departments have won the crown. (2010 - Valle, 2011 - Atlántico, 2012 - Valle, 2013 - Atlántico)
- In 80 years of history, there have been five B2B: 1934 - 1947 (Bolívar), 1951 - 1953 (Valle), 1983 - 1984 (Bolívar), 1989 - 1990 (Atlántico) and 2004 - 2005 (Atlántico). The winners in 1934 and 1947 were cousins, same with 2004 and 2005.
