Does "Know When To Peak" Works?

Postby Prozac » Tue Jan 17, 2023 10:26 pm

After the Miss Universe competition, I don't think the "Know when to peak" strategy works for the following
reasons.

It promotes complacency. A complacent person or organization is very pleased with themselves or feels
that they do not need to do anything about a situation, even though the situation may be uncertain or
dangerous.

Everybody has seen Celeste with her lukewarm performance in the prelims. And you can still hear others
saying "babawi yan tiyak sa finals" or nakareserba yong maganda niyang gown sa huli. Don't you think that's
insane when a candidate should have put her best foot forward from the get-go?
Nobody
in her right mind will give you that chance kung nilalaro nyo lang ang chances nyo. Saving the best for last is
so outmoded. While the rest of the candidates are moving heaven and earth para mapansin kayo hihintayin nyo
pa ang last day to make an impact?
ang pinakalakas na sampal - and the reality was you squandered the streak na pinagkaingatan natin. Ang streak
na yan ... ang suppose to be bragging rights natin, Now it is all gone.

Our girl unfortunately seemingly ran out of gas when she needed to run at full speed.

2. I just can't understand the logic na kung gahol na gahol sa oras doon ka na magpasiklab. Our candidate should
always be in the battle mood.
I know for a fact that there are rabid fans who
can't contain their mouths and they will have to say whatever they want to say. But you can always make use of
their feedbacks and reactions para maevaluate nyo ang mga pinaggagawa nyo. Ang mga natcos nyo ... ang mga gown
nyo.

3. Pinagpala yong kandidatong prepared. And Celeste was one of them. May 1 week pa nga sila sa LA before going
to Louisiana. May picture pa nga na nagroroller coaster ride sila ni Voltaire. Pero what's this we heard na magpafinals
There is a video showing in you tube about the gowns she is suppose to
wear. And the gowns pumasa pa sa panlasa ng mga netizen compared to what she wore in the prelims.

See? Bakit kasi ilihim pa, Ayaw ninyong makopya? Ayaw nyong mapuna?

Di ba kung prepared ka na, you have done your homework well ... all you need is proper EXECUTION! With a short
pageant calendar, EVERY MOMENT COUNTS!

Sovereign also did not mince her word about Know When To Peak Strategy. She termed it as holding back. She
struck a nerve with her every word, but I can't help but agree with her. Don't miss this video ... I hope Gaffud
and the company should watch this because she warned us of this before ... and the Miss Universe 2022 was the

At the end of the day, Celeste didn’t know when to peak. She peaked at the beginning but faltered and nosedived during the prelims.

I watched thesovereign's YouTube channel and I agree with her. As a candidate you need to be aware when to peak and when to conserve your energy. Preliminary competition is as good as Final competition. I don't know why MUPh org always want candidate from the Philippines to slowdown during the preliminary competition... I hope the strategy of MUPh will change soon... or else we will have years of clapping again...

"Know when to peak" "She's holding back coz she's saving energy" is a complete BS for me. just because it "works" on PIA, it means it's a strategy. It just so happen she did it like that. I agree with every single word you said. Our candidates should be in her A game the moment the competition starts.

Dominican Republic
Venezuela
Puerto Rico

These 3 are the prime example of giving their Best the moment they step foot in New Orleans and look how far they went.

It works when you peak at the preliminaries. Look at the top five, they were the clear preliminary top placers. Even the Filipinos were disappointed with Celeste during the prelims, that was already alarming.

This is my question:

Do the MUPh girls apply this strategy - know when to peak - in the prelims of MUPh…

Kasi this is what helps them make it to the finals ng MUPh!

Then, pagdating sa Miss Universe eh nawawala yung pagiging palaban nila.

Obviously, the know when to peak strategy does not work anymore! Mga latina nga eh same strategy lang ang ginagawa nila every year and it works for them every year!

It may work if the approach is correct.

What they do is they go lowkey and intend to surprise people but it never happens.

For Christ's sake, just act normal. Be polite, be humble and talk to anyone. Do not be a show off.

Impress the judges during the interview and prelim.

In my opinion, ''know when to peak'' already has an answer. Contestants should peak during the judging phase of the competition, while keeping a consistency in which they present their advocacies and passions without too much frill in the non-judging phases of the competition. For Miss Universe Philippines, I am not sure on how they are doing this but I get why fans find this staetment/ethos problematic. Remaining a bit low-key would be helpful, especially if you want to give an impression to all that you are there to compete but also that you have a heart; remaining high-key could also be helpful, but yes, energy should be reserved for the judging phases of the competition, especially when it's time for you to present your advocacies in the interview preliminary phase of the competition. This goes to all competitions, despite different criteria for each of them.

Know when to peak to put it succinctly = stay lie low in pre-pageant competitions, but bring in it prelims.

I also think its a mindset, not really a hard rule. Kapag naooverwhelm ka na and if you feel you arent invited to be featured in sponsor shoots, promotional activities, just take a breath and focus on this mindset, just to take off the edge and pressure, and to not let the intrusive negative thoughts win.

However I think this is supremely case to case basis. Before Miss Universe pre-pageant competitions take 1 month to 1.5 months, talagang masususka at susuko ka if you are 100% all the time. In Celeste's case though, what 10 days lang ang Miss Universe? THAT IS THE ENTIRE BREADTH OF TIME you should have been on your peek, lalo na kung galing kang pageant crazed country where you go through a far more challenging and more demanding nationals.

If Gaffud and his ilk have not heard what Sovereign said let me reiterate it for the sake of next year's delegate
in El Salvador. This is what she said ... "Philippines ... you are going to hurt yourself if you keep playing "The Know
When To Peak" game. Do not take the chance of not placing in the finals by holding back in the prelims. You are
playing a dangerous game ... and eventually, it will backfire and you gonna be pissed. It is going to hit you in the
face and the whole country will blame you for it. So I am warning you now ... stop advising your girls to hold back.

It is a little bit cocky that you can play this little "hold back game" and survive. It's a little hubris to think that you
don't have to do your best and you can still beat the other countries who are doing their BEST. If you keep doing this
... it will cost you a final placement and the whole country will grieve.

In Miss Universe, you should not leave space for someone to step over you. In a competition, you don't give your
competitor space to breathe. Don't let up on them at all. SUFFOCATE them if you can.

I agree. Gone are the days when Miss Universe is a month-long marathon. What we have now is the abbreviated edition
so it is just like a sprint - running full speed at a short distance (two weeks). Celeste should have shown her A game early
on. Every day is a D-Day. Seize the nows without hesitation.

The unpredictability of the competition does not leave any girl some room to choose which segments to slay. All segments
are important, if you can ace all segments ... nobody will fault you for that.

Charing >:D<

OMG true yung abbreviated version. I remember nung 2000s and mga early 2010s na halos isang buwan ang Miss Universe. Three weeks ang minimum noon. Pagdating nila registration plus photoshoot swimsuit at yung gown. Three days na ganoon. Then may hinihintay pang mga Fadil Shots which is usually released by the second week na. Anyways, laos na yang know when to peak na yan! Kung wala lang sa momentum ang pinas ligwak naman yang si Shamcey sa know when to peak niya. Swerte niya nasa momentum tayo noon with Venus Raj's placement at talagang nag-ingay ang Pinas noon. All eyes are on us sa Miss Universe. Winning and competitive ang attitude. Dapat pasabog agad then sustain or pataas pa ang momentum.Walang sasayanging oras dahil Miss Universe has become even more competitive na. Competitive na noon at mas naging competitive pa ngayon. Miss Universe is the most prestigious and most competitive international beauty pageant of all. Bawal ang lalamya lamya. Awrahan. Elbowan. Kainan ng microphone. Ems!

if you like me raise ur hand if u dont like me raise ur STANDARDS

the queen is never late, it's just that everyone's too early!

Re: Does "Know When To Peak" Works?

Postby poker_man » Fri Jan 20, 2023 5:00 pm

Just watched Shamcey's interview and that statement or advice given to Pia Wurtzbach (I remember this interview where Pia talked about this 'know when to peak' strategy) was because of the fact that Miss Universe used to run for three weeks. Nowadays, it's less than 2 weeks, it's only 10 days to be exact.

Since Shamcey was the one who gave that advice to Pia, it was assumed that it was the same advice given to all MUP girls since Rabiya, Bea and Celeste looked like they all held back during the preliminaries.

Looking back, I think Celeste's personality was her downfall. All the girls had something to offer, yes some of them may jot be crownworthy in terms of pasarela and presentation, but Miss Universe is not a modeling competition.

It was also unfair to say that Shamcey would have clapped if she competed in a different year and that she was riding on the Venus Raj momentum. She actually could have won Miss Universe 2011 but her answer was so selfish, it didn’t sit right to hear that she had to pressure her significant other to love her God too. Shamcey had the credentials to boot, she is an architect and a really smart girl, if for anything, she along with the other girls helped strengthen the Filipina brand in Miss Universe.

Catriona will always be Catriona but her bid for Miss Universe has always been contrived and calculated, in my opinion. She clearly studied every single thing to make her look authentic but it was more of a put on.

Also, she developed this pasabog and paandar style of approach (with the earcuffs and outfits with custom Filipina culture reveal) that a lot of girls are trying so hard to emulate in recent years. Also, it was fishy to have Chavit Singson who sponsored Miss Universe 2016 have his daughter in the judging panel and another Filipina, Monique Lhullier in there as well. Catriona had all the advantage she could get, she was not going to lose whatever happens. She even used the judge's private jet to go back to Manila. It doesn't look good to be honest. If there was a rigged edition, it would have been Miss Universe 2001 and Miss Universe 2018.

Looking back, I think Celeste's personality was her downfall. All the girls had something to offer, yes some of them may jot be crownworthy in terms of pasarela and presentation, but Miss Universe is not a modeling competition.

This.
This is what many among the fans don’t understand.

Why doesn’t poker_man have a pageant expert tag while Nina Cleopatra has who’s good at story telling and spreading rumors about rigging?

It doesn't. Show up, do your duties, show out on stage and leave.
Judges evaluate you during interviews and prelims, and MUO watches you during your stay.
So be polite, be nice, be about your advocacy, perform well, don't be lazy and go home.

The problem was the question itself that was given to Shamcey.
She just answered with her own convictions.
You can never really please everyone when it comes to religion.
She was given the toughest question.
