"know when to peak" panahon pa yan ni Shamcey Supsup
Kakahold back niyo sa prelims at best dress for finals tuloy unplaced ang Miss Universe Philippines.

Prior to this day's coronation day, I've been following pageant pages on Instagram like I used to since 2016. These pageant pages get the latest insider tips from both local and international pageant scenes including the Super Bowl of all pageants, Miss Universe. Just like you, I'm surprised as well that Philippines did not make it to the semifinals, but this post is intended to shed light on the possible reasons this happened.
1. This edition of Miss Universe placed utmost importance on the candidate's backstory, advocacy, and communication skills. The new owner of MUO, Anne JKN, a Thai business mogul, emphasized from the very start that they are looking for a transformational leader. Someone with a story to tell the world, someone who has a leadership and transformational journey in her life comparable to that of Bea Luigi's stint last year. Did Celeste fall short of this aspect knowing that she had a massive improvement from her Miss Earth stint to Miss Universe? I honestly don't think so, but I believe the other ladies might have more appealing stories to tell that the judges find interesting. Also, the closed door interview surely have played a big part on their criteria. ✨
2. The never-ending "KNOW WHEN TO PEAK" narrative. As Shamcey Supsup would always say, "Know when to peak." C'mon Shamcey, that was 2011, more than a decade ago! The MUPh organization has been stuck in this strategy and never listened to fans and avid supporters of our queens. Many fans and pageant analysts were a bit underwhelmed with Celeste's prelims performace (swimsuit and evening gown, not to mention the underwhelming register of the gown during the telecast). A lot of us noticed Celeste holding back with her performance because we know she can do better than smiling all throughout her ramp walk. Staying true to "know when to peak" strategy, she held back and supposedly saved her best performance for the finals. But now, will she able to do it? She missed the chance.
Know-when-to-peak is already an outdated pageant game plan that it will no longer work in today's competition. In a sea of Latinas with great showmanship and impeccable pasarelas (ramp walk), there's no room for a lady to hold back when you are given the chance to perform. Catriona, during her time, did not even blink an eye and gave her competitors a run for their money. Every day for her is peak time, no hold backs, From Day 1, as soon as Catriona arrived in Thailand, she was just there to claim her crown. No one came close. ✨
3. A slap to bully pageant fans. Oh, Filipinos know this very well. We are everywhere, Facebook, Twitter, Tiktok, Instagram. There are always peenoise who throw hate on other ladies. Remember Canada's Nova Stevens during Miss Universe 2020? Some peenoise called her the n-word. Just this year, some Filipino fans flocked to Leila Lopes' (Miss Universe 2011) IG account and called her the n-word just because of a comment she left on a post about Celeste Cortesi's outfit. The Filipinos did not like it and it got out of hand and attacked Leila in an extremely offensive level.
Look, I'm not trying to single out Filipino fans here. We are one of the best fans, but just like a double-edged sword, we can be one of the worst and most hostile fans as well. Indonesian fans, the Latinos, Americans, and all fans across nations aren't exempted in this ordeal. We all have to learn to show humility despite the great achievements we have in the world of pageantry.
I read an insider gossip on Instagram that the "fans' behavior" will have to do something on this year's selection of finalists. That countries with hostile fans like Ph and Indonesia will learn their lesson the hard way. It happened today! Whether this is true or not, the exclusion of Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia will serve as a wake up call to their fans to stop the bullying and spreading hate on the ladies. ✨
To win Miss Universe, as they say, is a destiny, but without hardwork, perseverance, and a well thought of game plan, things could play out differently for even a pageant powerhouse country like the Philippines. Catriona Gray, our very own Miss Universe 2018, remains to be the gold standard that our country had ever sent to the Miss Universe stage. From the styling, wardrobe, backstory, advocacy, communication skills, prelims and finals performance, she had checked all the boxes and aced all the rounds. No "know-when-to-peak." She has always been on top of her game even up to this day.
This is all I can say. We should still be proud of Celeste. Deep inside, I know she deserve at least a Top 16 placement. And congratulations to R'Bonney Gabriel of USA, our Miss Universe 2022! Well-deserved!
See you next year! ✨

1. When it comes to GOWN SELECTION, invite ALL PH designers to submit gowns for selection (esp. those who know what looks good on stage, hello Rian, Louie, Mak, Val, etc.). Then select the best one.
FORGET previous grudges, padrino system, business favors, and org. favoritism. Do not alienate the local team who made the candidate win. DO IT FOR PH.
2. DO NOT CHANGE THE CANDIDATE. Rabiya, Bea, Celeste lost the sassiness and alpha demeanor they showed during MUPH. Their strong pasarela and stage presence were not evident anymore in the Miss Universe stage. They blended in Miss Universe, did not stand out. There is difference between enhancing vs. changing.
3. For the national costume, same as no. 1 invite contributors for selection. We see lots of better costumes in our local pageants. Why can't we see them in the Miss Universe stage? Again, FORGET previous grudges, padrino system, business favors, and org. favoritism. DO IT FOR PH.
3. Of course advocacy and communication skills are important, but the three items above will make an impact and will surely lock in better scores for EG and Swimsuit and will contribute to overall impression of our candidate.

maganda na nga yung naging momentum ng Pilipinas, kaso pinipilit nyo ibigay sa grupo ni Jonas at Shamcey then after 3 years, naligwak si Philippines sa wakas sa world stage.

parang malas ang 13th year streak. Unlike the list below -
First, Venezuela in its 13th year streak in 1995 they placed Top 6
Second, USA in its 1st 13th year streak in 1970, they got 1st Runner Up.
USA's 2nd set of its 13th year streak in 1989, they won the 2nd Runner Up.
Let me congratulate Laos for placing the Top 16 at Miss Universe 2022, and also Top 8 at Miss International 2017 since Laos officially join the world's pageantry in 2017.![]()
