OK...so whats it going to mean for us this year....what have we learned from previous years that we can build on and improve. Yes the girls look great...mind you some of them look like they belong at the bouzoukia or on instagram rather than on an international platform like Miss Universe but thats another matter. What is the background of most of these girls going into pageantry...because you and I both know that both Miss World and Miss Universe pageants are just not about beauty any more...they are about a combination of beauty, brains and personality combined. Are any of our girls ready to represent Miss Universe internationally should they win? This is my question....what is this new Organisation doing in rectifying mistakes of the past. Its one thing to send a stunner over (we know cause we have already sent many in the past) but if she cant talk and lacks confidence on the world stage then what good are the looks then. This I believe has been our problem for many years and this is why as beautiful as some of our delegates have been we haven't been able to penetrate finals...thats why I ask, what is the Organisation doing in choosing high calibre girls to properly represent us, not just pretty ones!!!
It's tough to say right now since the girls have just been selected. But your concerns are valid certainly. We don't know much about the girls right now apart from their social media bios. Based on those, there are a few girls who probably meet the standards of Miss Universe (Vasiliki G, for instance, is a med school student, and Maria Z. is a psychology major). One thing I've noticed with this selection is there aren't many models; with the exception of one or two, they're normal girls. Perhaps this was intentional.
As for personality, again it's tough to say but based on what I've observed these last few days, several of the girls have outgoing personalities and seem confident enough.
Now to what I do know. I've been pestering a staff member of GS Hellas on Facebook and he's been very generous with his replies. This is apparently GS Hellas' plan: they purposely selected the finalists now so they could mold the girls and prepare them for the final night in September. As you know, this is the opposite of what we've seen in past years, which was basically have the final show and hope for the best (lol). The GS Hellas Org is putting in a lot of work for the next 3 months to make sure the girls have a good showing on the final night. I was told this decision is specifically for Miss Universe. They want to have a girl prepared and ready for December, otherwise the other winners will represent Greece in 2023 so they'll have much more time. This is strictly about Miss Universe which will be their first proper year (last year they got the license last minute so they didn't really prepare).
So overall, let's wait and see. I want to give GS Hellas a chance. We gave years to Star Hellas so we can be patient with GS Hellas. I'll say this: the amount of work and effort I saw these last few days from the prelims to the sash ceremony to the photoshoots, I haven't seen in years (at least a decade).
As for my personal opinion on the girls, I see some potential. It's just a matter of picking the right girl for Miss Universe and training her. Is that girl in this batch? Who knows?
But these are my thoughts:
Girls whom I think could be for Miss Universe with the proper training/tweaks:
Varvara: She has the beauty and confidence; the tattoo on her arm is a problem, however
Maria C.: Her beauty is evident and she is the Miss Universe type; she has confidence and can talk; my concern is her walk.
Afroditi: Beautiful girl but needs more confidence; her styling needs improvement.
Theodora: Another beauty; half Russian who is a belly dancer; her body is a concern though.
Anastasia (Nancy) T.: Love her aura; very sweet, but a bit shy. If she can gain some confidence, she might be perfect; she's the Sophia Arapogianni of this batch.
Vasiliki G: Great personality with lots of presence; her body can improve though and she's not facially stunning but there's something there.
Dark Horse - Thelia: This girl has spark but is she a pageant queen? The beauty, confidence, body is there. But I don't know if she has the personality or desire for pageants.
Others with some potential:
Maria M: Angelic beauty but lacks spark or confidence.
Chryssa: Properly the most beautiful in the batch but lacks spark; needs to show more of a personality.
Annick: Great personality and confidence, her body needs improvement though.
Maria Z.: She's another dark horse; the beauty is there, nice body, but she has to tone down the club girl stuff.
Asimina: Beautiful but a bit short; needs more personality.
Penelope: Great body, great personality, great face...but she's not a Miss Universe type at all; perhaps with proper training.
Girls with no chance or should be ignored:
Anastasia K: Good walk and confidence but that's it; not a great beauty, too many tattoos and a club girl mentality.
Korina: Another Ioanna Bella; stunning but just not Miss Universe material.
Vasiliki V.: Sweet girl but just nothing there.
Christiana: Obviously beautiful but not the right type; could transform though with the proper training.
Eleana: The most pageant patty of the group but too mature looking and not interesting; she'd be another Vasiliki Tsirogianni.
