MUO choice: Miss Universe Philippines x Binibining Pilipinas

The MUO wanted to strengthen its local presence by having pageants that carry the "Miss Universe" name.
As such, they have initiated Miss Universe Thailand and Miss Universe Philippines in local markets where pageantry is a thriving business.

This might be a good idea in terms of branding but will this move really benefit the MUO brand?
In countries such as Venezuela and Colombia- where the contest is embedded in the culture, they still are part of the mother brand
Miss Venezuela, Senorita Colombia, Nuestra Belleza Mexico, etc. and it seems to me that it is a non-issue since the main winner competes in Miss Universe

Thus, I wonder, was it essential for MUO to give the Philippine franchise to MUP when (1) they have actually made some local efforts to name the winner as Miss
Universe- Philippines instead of Binibining Pilipinas- Universe (2) Binibining Pilipinas has been doing a wonderful job in sending quality candidates to the international contest (9 year streak). (3) There is a collaboration between MUP and Bb in 2019.

My personal take is that, MUO should have maintained the relationship with Binbini for the following reasons (1) Binibini has a legacy in it and despite being an institution, it was willing to adjust for MUO (2) The contest is more well-produced by Binibini

Ofcourse, there is nothing wrong with the new org. This was a choice MUO had to make and it is unfair for the MUP group to get all the blame when they are only abiding to their obligations as the new franchise holder. I just think that it is a reflection of MUO's poor decision making when they can make a bigger impact if they stayed with Bb. Pilipinas

I said this before. it sounds like MUP is trying to grab the limelight from BPCI.
That will take more than a hard work.
That’s tough because BPCI has been a tradition and has been effective for decades.
BPCI is a brand in Philippine pageantry.

Gaffud’s ambition is good but that may be the reason that Philippine streak at Miss Universe may fall.
We’ll see!

Day, no need for proof, maliwanag pa sa sikat ng araw after Papaya won para ng asong aaligid aigid si Jonas at with his connection kay Dabiana (De Castro at Wanda Teo) naipakilala sa kanya sila Chavit at through Pia linapit nila sa MUO ang offer nila to get the franchise.

BPCI socmed even posted an article about Singson's Illegal activities during the time na nag ta tug-of-war sila sa franchise.

I'll answer you point by point:

1. Jonas is managing Pia thru Mercator Models - even before winning Miss Universe, this aside from Pia being an Aces Girl. It is just natural for him to stick with Pia like leech - your girl just won MISS UNIVERSE for your country and it was a very BIG DEAL in 2015. Everyone wanted to have a piece of Pia, Jonas included...

2. It was Pia who suggested to have her crowning here in Manila, we all know that. Chavit financed that staging. That alone built connection between MUO and Singson. No Jonas, Kat, Pia here...

3. BPCI posting on socmed - really bad call from BPCI. Being a charitable org, it left a bad taste in the mouth that they are capable of throwing major shade on something they had no business to begin with. Since when did they become an investigative body? Have they proven anything though? NONE!

4. "Pia/Jonas/Singson deliberately did everything para ma influence sila Shugart/Mclain etc para alisin ang franchise sa mga Araneta." - what EXACTLY did they do? These are just speculations. Did Shugart or Mclain told you so?

5. "Bakit walang ma say ang MUO? " - they said nothing, yes. But they did something - they dumped BPCI! Need they say more? I do not see the need for them to say anything after the official announcement. Simply put - MUO has nothing to do with BPCI anymore...

If you were to blame anyone on this change of franchise, it's not Jonas or the new org - it is BPCI...

And now that the franchise is yours

Ipapangalandakan m na naman yung mga talentless talent mo na di sumikat-sikat

Major flop yung ginawa nyong Miss Universe 2016 theme song da vah?

Agree, it is a reflection of MUO's decision making, and more so, priorities. Poor or not is an opinion. The only "impact" MUO cares about is $. It is a business, unlike MWO, which is a charity, and therefore chooses franchise holders who are interested in local impact. MUO franchise is always up for sale to the highest bidder. This is the case in all countries. What has happened here is that they have clearly inked a deal where not only the franchise fees but a portion of all earnings (since it happens on the back of the "MissUniverse" brandname) will accrue to MUO. I am suspecting a significant portion of it as well. It is just business. When someone else offers more, they will take their business there. They are desperate for money. And this is their most lucrative market. Why do you think they have dropped Phil suddenly and gone chasing after Thailand as the #1 Asian country? Because they have realized there is more money there.

After MUP’s collapse this year, the franchise is going back to BPCI next year. :%))

Mark my words.

Now that there is practically a separate contest to select a candidate from the Philippines for every major pageant, World, Earth and now Universe with BPCI being the default for International...isn't this spreading the pageant community in the Philippines a bit too thin? I am sure that Nawat will sooner or later demand a Miss Grand Philippines pageant for his annual dress rehearsal.

If this trend spread into other countries I think in the long run, Miss International will benefit from out of all this the most....they are not that particular with the contestant being the actual winner...and they for the most part do not try to pretend they are anything but a beauty pageant.

Absolutely! I think they are capitalising the popularity of pageants now in the Philippines but to be honest, I think we should keep the options less open to make it still prestigious. Currently, we have (1) Bb Pilipinas for International, Globe, Intercontinental, Grand International and Supranational; Miss Universe Philippines for Universe, Miss World Philippines for World; Miss Philippines Earth for Earth and Mutya ng Pilipinas for other pageants.
I think Universe and World should go back to Miss World Philippines

BPCI will not be bothered. Kung naka ilang years ng drought nga, nagsurvive ang BPCI noon. I don't think issue pa yan sa kanya.
