It’s funny how some people have managed to link Deborah Henry’s Non placement with shamcey supsup making the cut .. as if the two are even related..

As if no other contestants on the top 15 can be questioned about their placement except miss philippines lol

Here’s one for you - Malaysia should have placed instead of Brazil .. how about that for a discussion lol

I think in the 2011 edition, both Philippines and Malaysia were considered as ASEAN frontrunners. The comparisons can't be helped.

Deborah did not make it because she doesn't have a story to capture the judge's imagination... being a good speaker alone is not a ticket for semifinal spot the girl should also have something extra ordinary to stand out...

But having said that Deborah was probably in the top 15... around 10th-15th but got swapped by Trump's pick.

[quote="Sybarite"]Some Filipinos sitting next to her parents said that the father was so arrogant and rude especially after Shamcey made it while his daughter failed to make the cut. There was also an article written by one of the preliminary judges saying that they found Leila Lopez and Shamcey as the most natural among the delegates. This was probably one of the reasons why Ms Henry failed to advance. She seemed to try too hard to gain attention which somehow reminds me a bit of Tamaryn Green's pabida style that is why some people find both of these ladies a bit phony. Deborah Henry's strategy was to arrive in Brazil earlier than the rest to have a photo opportunity at an orphanage hoping that this will impress the Miss Universe staff. Kaloka! [quote="Muckraker"]

Pabida at "bit phony" pero 1st RU? :#)] 8-} Dami mong alam.

Attitude might had been the key in their selection of semifinalists aside from "politics" way back in 2011? or the judging system at Miss World could had been one of the problems why some former MW placers failed to place at Miss Universe later on in the last 10 editions except for Ada Dela Cruz, Yendi Philips, Patricia Rodriguez, Olivia Jordan and Catriona Gray?

Because winning a pageant is about being there at the right place and at the right time, regardless who organizes the pageant. Why do you think Margie Moran won when Miss USA had the best answer during the finals in 1973. Tereza Fajksova who didn't even answered the final question won over Miss Philippines in 2012 Miss Earth. The recent Miss International has won the judges over her speech saying that winning the pageant that day would be more meaningful to her as it was her birthday. Brooke Lee saying she will eat everything twice if given a day to be outrageous. These are not as excellent answers compared to how Catriona answered her question.

My point is stars are not just aligned for Deborah in 2011. The judges thought there are better girls than her (definitely not more than 50.. right Nawat???). Certainly Deborah is one of the best women that represented Malaysia and for people to notice her during the pageant is already an accomplishment, the game in the pageantry is to get notice right? and She certainly was.

Brook won Miss Universe 1997 because of the witty answer to the final question and overall impression during the entire competition especially she got high mark in both semifinal on-stage interview and judges' question.

But go back to Debbie, I think had IMG/Endeavor took over MUO in 2011 it might ended up the long placement drought just like Sri Lanka in 2017 but attitude contributed to the selection of semifinalists recently trying to avoid another bad attitude queens in their org.?

Let me speak on behalf of Malaysian here. here's my 52 Cent,

1) First, comparing Catriona to Debby is a big NO, because both come from different era.

2) 2nd, We, Malaysian admitted that Beauty Pageant is not our FOOD. So yeah.

3) Thanks for those who supporting Debby, and to A FEW Filipinos that keep on hating her, huge thanks too. We have nothing against your delegate from Venus to Catriona Gray.

Lastly, let the result be a history itself because beauty pageant is not a thing in my country.
Wanna know why she clapped? EASY, asked the judge during that time... Do not speculate, like saying she's dry and etc....

I leave you with one question.......HOW IN THIS WORLD THE GIRL WHO HAS NUDE PHOTO MAKE IT TO THE TOP 5 IN Miss Universe 2011? 8-} 8-} 8-} Remember what happened to Erin McNaught from Aust in 2006? She was excluded due to the Nude photo......

if we malaysian did accept the result, i think the rest should move on too.. >:D< >:D< >:D< >:D<

Deborah is prettier than any filipina you have ever sent, trust foreigner's opinion. If she wore "Philippines" sash you'd be hyping her day and night saying she's the prettiest contestant ever and yeah her chances with such sash would have been way better, possibly a crown.

She was beauty queen, model and human rights advocate Deborah Henry. Already well-known for her poise and beauty, she made headlines here with her surprising non-win at the Miss Universe 2011 pageant at Sao Paolo.

Her life story reads like a girl destined for stardom. Born in Dublin, growing up in Malaysia, modelling in London and attending university in Australia. She holds a B. Arts. degree in Political Science and Economics from the University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia. Her focuses are on human rights advocacy and sustainable development with a long-term goal to eradicate poverty.

Image

She also co-founded Fugee School, a non-profit charity organisation that provides basic education to close to 90 Somalian refugee children. Deborah (and her university friend Shikeen) started giving Somali refugee children English and Math tuition in their homes. Word spread quickly within the close-knit community, and more classes ensued, eventually leading to the birth of the Fugee School in May 2009.

Henry also is a World Vision’s Childs’ rights Advocate. World Vision is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation. A trip to Lebanon proved especially heartbreaking for her.

“I went as part of World Vision and heard about a mother walking into Lebanon and somehow a stray bullet had hit her child. She carried her dead child in her arms for the remainder of her journey before crossing the border. It was just horrific,” she recalled.

She also speaks for the Harper's Bazaar The Pink Project PSA 2010. Henry also became the ambassador for Yes, I Can Campaign, an educational, awareness & advocacy campaign for the prevention of unplanned & unwanted pregnancy in Malaysia.

In 2013, Henry was included in Forbes’s list of top Asian philanthropists for her contribution in "helping the many refugees from war-torn Somalia who had found their way to Malaysia".

Wise word with our woman we love.....

"It’s funny. I mean, I don’t regret it. In everything I do today, with the kids, refugees, World Vision, it’s [winning Miss Malaysia World and Universe] helped me so much, I would have never got this platform otherwise."

"Sometimes what we want for ourselves is not what God wants for us and so what we think we want may be a learning experience for something bigger and better. Have goals but don’t be so focused that you head down one road and don’t see the streetside signs and pathways. I thought winning Miss Universe was the deal and when I wasn’t even placed I was distraught. But I now see that that experience was crucial to strengthening my resolve and I know what it feels like to hit rock bottom."
