How will this affect the possible hosting of Miss Universe 2018 in our country? It is also reported that the announcement will happen today in an event in OKADA Manila. Will it still happen?
My fingers are crossed.

This is good news. Country first before anything else. You are still thinking of Miss Universe?

I didn't say that this isn't a good news. And believe me that I was elated to know that the President is true to his word about fighting corruption in his cabinet. I am also hoping that all involved with this fiasco will also be held accountable.
But is hosting Miss Universe not good for our country's tourism industry? Isn't it a good promotion for the re-opening of Boracay?

It would be great to see Korea host with all the Kpop and stuff

stupid_jerk wrote:~O) After the previous Manila hosting of Miss Universe, it was reported that it costed more than what was initially agreed on. (It costed multiple times of what was agreed)
The government claims that the increase of tourist last 2017 was due to Miss Universe (It should actually! Why? Because spending billions of pesos for just a pageant is stupid) but data from the government shows there wasn't really much difference in tourist entry with Q42016 and tourism earning from months before Miss Universe up to now.
Investors, up to this date, has yet to recover their investment on the hosting. According to moles, this year's potential hosting will be mainly covered by the government instead of investors. (Haist... tax)
Some investors were saddened by the lack of opportunities to show-off Philippines, and their businesses, as a tourist destination. (... so... hopefully PH destinations/culture/tradition get more airtime during the pageant like that in 1994)

Honest Thought: I'd prefer another country to host Miss Universe for now. I don't think Philippines is ready yet to assume such a big financial responsibility that the pageant is asking for. I have no doubt a good production is possible... but once the books are balanced, the income deficit from the previous hosting might be outweighed by this current hosting.

That's the cost of the 4th crown for Philippines. If there's no hosting payment there will be no crown for Catrina. A deal needs to be made.
