I'd be very happy if this transpires.
The last time the Dominican republic hosted in 1977, the first black Miss Universe was crowned. And Beatriz Obregon of Nicaragua gave her country it's very first placement. Austria's Eva Maria Duringer was 1st Runner Up. There were 3 Europeans in the Top 5 and 5 within the Top 12.
Colombia was the only Latin in the Top 5 whist USA and Venezuela were both made to stop in the Top 12.

How I wish, the same scenario would follow. Except that, at least, 2 or 3 Asians would enter the Top 16. I also want a black winner but if a European will, I'd be happier.
In 1977, Blanca Sardiñas made it through the semis, and if Dominican Republic will host this year, I hope Dulcita Lynn would follow a Blanca Sardiñas.
1977 gave the highest delegate turn-out in the 70s, reaching 80 delegates, 16 of which were black. Of which many of the 16 black delegates complained during the two-week preliminaries being ignored by photographers who favoured and focused on white contestants. Ironically, a black delegate, who is also the eventual winner, Janelle Commissiong, won Miss Photogenic as chosen by the press photographers.
During that year, 2 famous designers sat in the panel namely, Roberto Cavalli (who later married 1st Runner Up Eva Maria Duringer of Austria) and Oscar de la Renta (a native of the Dominican Republic). Wilhelmina Cooper also sat as member of the panel whilst Black American singer Dionne Warwick also sat as member of the panel who became ecstatic with the winning of Janelle Commissiong.

With all these stories in 1977, I bet 2012 would be 10x as exciting if this other half of the island of Hispaniola would be hosting.

Just to say this for one time, I don't copy and paste. I am the Leader of pageant historian group and I have proven my worth in pageant facts for so mnay times in this forum.
I can dish out any pageant trivia in minutes anytime. I admit there are moments I have relapse or miss out names or year, but, in general pageant knowledge, I know history.
And just to inform you HotandReady16, even if I have other profession, I don't miss 1 hour of my life reviewing past pageant editions, be it MU, MW.MI, ME or any national pageants, especially Misses USA & Venezuela. This is mylife, and you do not know what I do to accuse me of copying and pasting.

I believe you. You are one of the forumers here that have broad knowledge about pageants. Just like you, I always review past pageant editions and many witnessed that during the viewing party of MU 2009
