(exclusive) TARA CONNER: Confession of a Coke Whore

"Recovering" Coke Whore

By Agua Maldita

"I was doing pain pills the entire time." (Throughout her pageant stints including the Miss USA title)

Miss USA 2006 Tara Conner is now a public advocacy consultant for the Caron Foundation, the organization that helped her recover from her drug addiction. She shares that her parents' divorce and the death of her grandfather, whom she was very close to, began her journey into the world of drugs. First, it was drinking alcohol at 14 while a cheerleader for her high school. She graduated to morphine by 15.

“I started taking Percocet, Xanex, Valium, Klonopin, morphine pills, methadone and OxyContin. There would be times where I could do 30 pain pills in a day.”

Months after being crowned Miss USA and placing at Miss Universe, Tara tested positive for cocaine. At the infamous press conference, Donald Trump gave her a second chance and with the help of the Caron Foundation, Tara began her recovery:

“It was a moment of clarity. It gave me an opportunity to be honest for the first time in a long time.” She is thankful for both the MUO and the Caron Foundation.

Even after being sober for five years (and on-going), Tara shares, “I have to stay very honest with what I’m feeling. I still have alcoholic thinking. She explains that her addiction is “cunning, baffling and powerful” while "alcoholics" she clarifies, “have more intense feelings ... we’re wired differently.”

I don't know what kind of message does this send to potential Miss USA contestants...

On one hand, I admire her for coming out clean with her alcohol and drug issues. But on the otherhand, I feel so bad that there were girls who got robbed of the chance to become an ultimate beauty queen because Tara took the crown away from them, and she was actually "drugged" at those times.

I do not see as unfair that she won like that. I believe there is not a such rule that a contestant have to take a drug test, like in Baseball, Boxing, Etc. Whether or not that rule should be implemented, back in 2006, Tara won fair.

I admire what she is doing now. There are thousands of people out there that needs to know that there are chances to get out of those addictions.

To be honest, I actually thought that her alcohol problems started when she became Miss USA. I just assumed that she could not handle the pressure of big city life and glamour, considering that she came from a small town in Kentucky. But, my issue about her is the fact that she was already on drugs during those years that she was competing at Miss Teen USA 2002, and then, in Miss USA 2006...

So, going back to my first sentence, I feel that this is not setting a very good example to young girls who aspire to become beauty queens. Yes, it's good that she is coping up very well with her ordeal, but not everyone is as lucky as her. Not everyone has the "Trump" to back her up. Not everyone is given the second chance. Some girls may assume things like, "Okay, I can take drugs and keep it a secret and become the next Miss Teen USA or Miss USA... anyway, I can get away with it..."

TRUMP GAVE HER A SECOND CHANCE BECAUSE HIS BROTHER DIED OF ADDICTION. FOR TRUMP IT WAS PERSONAL AND BUSINESS, AS THE SCANDAL, KEPT THE MUO RELEVANT AROUND WITH THE MEDIA.

I hear your point, I didn't know she was on drugs all that time....
and yes, it is a bad example....but just think that when that happened she was still a teen girl going through depression and all that...and probably didn't have anybody to help her out. I'm surprised she got that far in the Pageants.
