Comments made by Miss Dominican Republic Universe organizer, Magali Febles, turned the pageant world upside down on Thursday when she mentioned during an interview that Donald Trump had confirmed her this year’s edition of Miss Universe would be held in the Dominican Republic.

The news spread lifke wildfire instantly, including agencies like Reuters, Associated Press and AFP.

Reports of a Miss Universe Organization committee, visiting places like Santo Domingo and Punta Cana to evaluate infrastructure have made local headlines during the last days.

However, Brenda Mendoza (head of Public Relations for the Miss Universe Organization, based in New York) said to AP that neither the date nor location of the 2012 pageant have been announced, and added that the Dominican Republic is not confirmed as the host site.

Local reports in the Dominican Republic state the private sector is excited about the possibility of having the competition, but the Government has yet to reach a final decision.

THE MUO told the MSCR org that nothing has been confirmed and that they will have an answer by the end of JULY. The girls need to be ready by NOVEMBER, since the pageant will be held in DEC.

...MU was held in DR in 1977 where six out of the 12 semi-finalists at the event were from Latin America --Trinidad & Tobago, Colombia, Argentina, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and, of course, the Dominican Republic; the other six came from Europe (Austria, Germany, Holland, Scotland, Spain) and North America (USA). Clearly, another Asia (and Africa too) shut out!

...would that the results be different, if ever DR is given the chance to host the MU anew!

It amazes me that you folks can't wait for the OFFICIAL announcement from MUO!! The Host Destination/Venue maybe held in the Southern Hemisphere still or the Northern Hemisphere!! Panama is lobbying very hard at the moment because of the Panamax Canal Expansion project!
