Miss Universe will not reach 100+ contestants any time soon. The pageant is too Americanized and its for that reason I feel most African and Middle Eastern countries stick to Miss World only. Miss World adapts to the culture of the host country and it makes it more appealing to the global audience. Whereas Miss Universe imports American judges, host and entertainers and host the pageant at a time that will translate to prime-time in the US and Latin America.

Let me add, Miss Universe is still the most popular beauty pageant accdg. to Google Trends. Miss World is just far second.
Well my theory is MUO became complacent before and didn't bother the likes of Middle Eastern and African audiences because MW have them. MU only focuses on North and South America audiences. Europe because they're gorgeous and Asians as their the most passionate audience. Now their ratings are going down in USA, one of their plan is they want to capture and target new audiences like Africa now. So they could keep their flow of popularity, ratings, sponsors, money etc.
