...in the 1984 edition in Miami, Florida, Colombia's Susana Caldas and the Philippines' Maria Desiree Ereso Verdadero, 4RU and 3rd RU respectively, sported buns, but big haired Miss South Africa Tisha Snyman (1RU), Sweden Yvonne Agneta Ryding (Winner) & Venezuela Carmen Montiel (2RU) prevailed over them.

...in 1983, it was Ireland's Roberta Brown, 3rd semi-finalist from left, who was adjudged 2nd RU that night, and Finland's Nina Marjaana Rekola (5th from right) who decided to do away with the big hair...Singapore's Kathie Lee Lee Beng (2nd from left) also sported a short and sleek do.
