I find this info in another thread (thanks to our very special Spaniard member: GOMERO) and I checked the info in LA RAZÓN newspaper and this is what I found, sorry if the translation is bad but I used google translate because it was HELLA LONG to translate it by myself... but in summary they say Miss Spain Organization is going thru some financial issues but there are at least 3 diff organizations and particulars willing to pay the franchise value, it is a matter of negociation, so... it doesn't matter if Miss Spain close this chapter, it seems they are going to reborn after all!

The brick ends with Miss Spain

Miss Spain: closed due to bankruptcy

The crisis of the brick is done with the event, to check the closing 83 years later. The latest beauty queen studies rein to ask the organization. Since Marina D'Or Telecinco and left the company, the event has plunged and new property owner struggles to avoid the loss of business.

Not a good time for 'Miss Spain'. Or what is the same, the beauty contest for excellence in our country has had to dance in recent years with the ugliest, which has led to even consider a hypothetical disappearance of continuing business as usual. A delicate situation that has been acuciando in the last twelve months. More specifically, since Andres Cid Fernandez-owner of the mark since October 10, 1990 - decided to break away from the event on January 1, 2011 for their health problems and also by bad economic times and image who lived at the time your company. For this reason, the contest sold three million euros to be paid in ten years, ie 300,000 euros per year (or whatever it is, fifty million pesetas), the chairman of property group Torrecasa, Julio Martin, and his partner, Rosa Maria Fernandez, a young Galician installed in Valencia for business, which was left with forty-five percent of the company.

At the same time, her experience of the competition "King & Queen Beauty of Spain ', created in direct competition with Miss & Mister Spain, Rosa assumed the general direction of competition, based in Madrid passed the Paseo del Rey, near the Cuesta de San Vicente, Princess street, overlooking the Palace of Liria, which suggested that the improvement could be produced with a new project, undertaken with only four of the previous team and is dispensed with almost a score, including industry recognized professionals like Andrew and Monica Romero Fitted Cid Torres.

So a year after the relay business, the future of the event is even more uncertain. Not only because of the unexpected drop "ship" Rosa Maria Fernandez, whose intention was to take glamor to the competition and has left surrounded by numerous questions about his attitude in business, but also fire the rest of the old staff, the closure of the Madrid office for the headquarters of the estate of Julio Martin in Alicante. To finish, the inability to take the second installment of the purchase, was leading them even want to return the contest to its former owner with a resounding negative response.

The darkest hours of the history of the competition were revealed at the last gala, held in Seville, it was without major sponsors that their owners wanted to capture. Premonitory in view of the position taken also by the director of marketing of the event, which placed land through two weeks before the end of a contest that has lost the media attention it deserves since Telecinco and the resort of Marina D 'Or not renew their collaboration. Another blow, as the emporium Beach reported to the company about one hundred million pesetas.

This scenario has greatly harmed the current Miss and Mister Spain. Andrea Huisgen and Diego Otero, three-year contract signed and many doubts about its future if the company urgently enderaza its course, which seems to have already tried without success in the negotiations. Apparently, as has been find out why there are two or three interested in taking the contest, which would have been worth a million more than was paid.

Beatriz Martin, daughter of Julius and current CEO of the contest, has refused to allow the sale becomes effective, so this is looking increasingly going to the "house of trouble" in this court case. Especially if as they say the closest to Martin about a woman with strong will but very inexperienced in this world.

So all, this network is far from the real objective of the company: find and launch to stardom of the most talent and the most beautiful in Spain. Far left and the first Miss Spain, Pepita Samper, Valencia, who was elected in 1929. Also the 80's, when it was a springboard for dummies and artists. Play stopped, though, in 1990, when he took the reins of the contest Andres Cid, a man who changed his toilet paper factory beauty pageants after buying it in times of crisis for a token amount to about entrepreneurs of clubs in Benidorm. With a marketing strategy and hard work in a few months not only began paying the salaries of its four staff members, but also the money which that year was awarded to the winners: one million pesetas to the winner-see Esther Arroyo, half a million to the National Miss Silvia Jato-and-a half million or so, the first lady, Margarita Medina, as well as 250,000 pesetas of the second lady.

That added merit to the December 6, 1991, Constitution Day, signing his first contract with Telecinco television Silvio Berlusconi and Valerio Lazarov be issued the first gala January 19, 1992 from the Coliseum in La Coruna with the Sofia Madrid Mazagatos as the winner. And while some scandal and the word "Tongo" was left to hear in some other edition, lived profitable years for the employer and earnings for the winners with a Miss Spain in the year of the reign of nearly one hundred million pesetas. That is, the six hundred thousand euros. And the least, amounted to 24,000 euros. So much so that in 1996 was born the title of Mister Spain. All the girls and boys, like artists, receiving eighty percent of the money that the company billed for their work. Already in 2007, in the tail of Andres Cid, the contest winner assured the title of Miss Spain, apart from a car and other important gifts, the seventy-two thousand euros (twelve million pesetas) to be guaranteed by job. In the debit is also the export of the competition outside our borders. First in the Dominican Republic in 2008, in a previous merger Globalia sponsored by (the company of Juan Jose Hidalgo) and already beset by economic crisis, a year later in Cancun, which suffered after the tsunami event as a platform used tourist . Now Miss Spain is facing its own intractable financial earthquake.

The scandal ended with sponsors

The controversies of recent years marred the event, a fact that led to the disappearance of numerous sponsors, with a 50% decline in revenues. And not only they stopped believing in the company, the jury also hitherto presided personalities of journalism as an academic and Javier Luis Maria Anson Montini. One of the most notorious scandals was the candidate of Alicante in 2002, which proved to be a journalist infiltrated to uncover the secrets of the competition. It also highlights the case of Paula Bustillo, Miss Cantabria 2007, known as "Miss Mother" and was descoronada for it. "I think the organization created the controversy to be publicized. They knew beforehand that she was a mother, "he explains.

Bases controversial

"The Miss Spain 'is obsolete," repeated the beauty queens. Among their main demands are the modernization of the bases, customer loyalty and greater care of the image of the representatives. "The contest has ended up becoming a model agency: by contract are required to give 20 percent of all your work during the three years after your coronation," says Raquel Rodriguez, Miss Spain in 1993. One of the main struggles in recent years has been to eliminate the "macho points contest." A battle that has led Angela Bustillo, Miss Cantabria in 2007. After starting a legal battle, managed to change the basis for that motherhood does not conflict with the representation of national beauty.

This newspaper says that Beatriz Martín who is the current CEO of MSO, doesn't want to accept the fact that the organization is broke... That is why the negociations to re-brand Miss Spain Organization are being more problematic.

Considering the financial crisis in Europe, the disbandment of national beauty pageant organizations specially in socialist/semi-socialist countries like Spain is inevitable. I'm surprised Greece is still left standing.
I'm sad for Spain though- if these news are accurate. Some of the most elegant delegates in the history of MU had been from Spain. They might not have been as extravagant as their Latina cousins but they were just as spectacular.

As an aside, I find it interesting and somewhat ironic that the countries that have an emerging presence in MU were from the former Soviet Union and Iron Curtain.
See: Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, Albania, Czech Rep.
Missosology is an interesting and a fascinating science- it is sociology, psychology and cosmetology rolled into one.

Beauty pageants are like Starbucks.

I started to think that it is kinda a myth u know?... I agree in that there are TONS of wester euro girls in fashion industry and stuff... but I think they lost the interest because people is not investing in marketing weapons to make the idea of joining a beauty pageant attractive again in cuestion of money, contracts and success... If they give better rewards even the most beautiful models would run inmediatly to European franchises again...

Investment usually happens when there is social interest. And investment can also be a tool to revive a social interest. Whichever way, investments can keep beauty pageants afloat.

I think the suddenly stopped sending good girls because potential contestants started getting juicy contracts in fashion industry (this industry increased it's market value during the same years)... and adding the fact that after 1996 that Donald Trump got the company and transformed everything in politics, we can see why some Euro countries are not sending girls anymore because it doesn't matter if they pay for the franchise and send good girls, they won't make it anyway... I think MUO will start paying favors in the coming years, crowning for the first time countries that have several years sending girls.

It's very likely. Re-investments can surge when potential market is up in the air. It's money nowadays and pageants become sacrificial lambs ... so do many deserving women.

Back in 2007... they crowned a girl named Angela Bustillos as Miss Cantabria 2007 winning the ticket to join the national (Miss Spain 2007) but she was dethroned after knowing she was a mother of a little boy... She sued the pageant arguing this was anti-constitutional and SEXIST because it is not the same regulation for MISTER Spain allowing the last ones to participate even if the contestant is a father...

According this young lady, yes they can... Actually I think she's right in this matter, I don't see any problem if the contestant is a mom already as long as she's not older than certain age...

You know what, this is a good topic here in misso. It would be good to find out whether MUO and its national counterparts need to change their rules.
