Beauty Queen Probz: Controlling a Smile
I sometimes feel like a broken tape recorder mentioning how some girls can look so much better if they learn to control their smile. I've noticed that many beauty queens tend to have a "dental" issue and can look 1000x better when not smiling. Why is it so evident in beauty queens only ? I've noticed this every single year, and Im sure most pageant fans have as well. And this year is no exception, as here are some of those ladies.

Delphine Wespiser - France '12
One of my sentimental favorites this year, Delphine unfortunately clearly needs to not only fix her teeth but also whiten her teeth. Because of her distracting smile, she has become very inconsistent in her candids. However, I am confident that the MFO is well aware of this and are leaving the best for last just like Laury. Once Delphine learns to at least control her smile, her beauty is more than evident as shown in this latest candid of hers.

Melinda Bam - South Africa '12
Melinda can have this problem but it's not as problematic as other contestants this year at least in my point of view. I really like Melinda's facial beauty, she has the look of a hollywood star. Her smile however, can sometimes make her look older than what she looks as her dimples widen as well as her nose. A smile is obviously important on a beauty queen and as long as Melinda is able to control it, her beauty shines.

Daniela Alvarez - Colombia '12
Another contestant with a smile "problem" is Miss Colombia. When she doesn't smile, the girl gives me Jessica Barboza vibes. But the story is over once she opens her mouth. Her cheeks make her face look distracting and like many of these girls, it is not the same as when she takes a picture without smiling. I like the latin flavor this girl has and if she learns to control her smile at all times, she has potential to give a surprise.

Karina Gonzalez - Mexico '12
Karina is the main reason why I created this thread. Her look can change so much in a matter of seconds once she smiles. However, she's an excellent example of controlling her smile and making herself look very sexy and present. Karina has a smile that widens her whole face and it makes her look like she's much "wider" than what she really is. Lately however, I've seen that Karina has fixed this and she now manages to look great while smiling making her one of the best improvements so far.

Nicole Faveron - Peru '12
Another great example, Nicole's smile completely ruins her beauty. Not only does she look wider when she smiles, but she looks sort of "childish". It amazes how much her look changes when she doesn't smile. Her lips look so sexy, and she has this x-factor about her that makes her presence known. There's pictures where Nicole can become an instant standout. But when she smiles, she is simply out of the equation for me.

Farida Waller - Thailand '12
I used to love her at first, but her candids have become inconsistent due to yes, her smile. She needs braces asap or to simply control her smile. I do find this girl beautiful but her beauty is out once she smiles.
Sometimes it makes me wonder, why so much over a smile? A smile clearly is very important when it comes to the world of beauty queens. But how different do these girls look like in real life? Pictures can be so inconsistent when it comes to showing the true way someone looks. Also, in our everyday lifes, a smile is a quick expression we do, but we don't smile 24/7 unlike what we always see from a beauty queen. We are so used to seeing these girls smiling because we only have pictures to base our opinions on their beauty.

Anyways YES! I agree in its totality with you!
" Delphine . . . needs. . . whiten her teeth. "
Girl! I don't blame her! That shit hurts!
Did those white strips for 7 days....and damn! Had to stop talking for half of the day because of the sleight pain.
And yeah I agree with you about Mexico and Colombia... They look even more gorgeous than what they already are!
3/6 of them are in my top 16 atm!
If only it was someone else that would post first in my threads though..
Hahahahaah thanks love !
France, Mexico and South Africa are in my top from these girls. Kataa wrote:I sooooo... Love this thread MariaAndreina. It's true, the smile changes everything. When someone smiles from ear to ear “Sonrisa de oreja a oreja” it looks freaky (I practice my smile sometimes and I look Fu-gly) But I also noticed that everything is in how you style yourself for example: "I competed in a beauty pageant a year ago and one of the many things they told me is to always, ALWAYS smile. The day of the pageant some Make-Up artists were retouching me and you know the girl gets excited, 1st Beauty Pageant etc. etc. and because of that my smile covered my whole face
BUTTT… Thanks to them I didn't look so bad my nose didn't look BIG and my smile looked natural. Also you have to study your angles. Anyway, excellent job like always.
Thank you, im glad you liked it !
I guess from your experience we can say that it's over excitement from the girls to smile so wide and making them look bad. I've also practiced my angles and like you said, it's all about styling as well. Natalie Mendoza wrote:Nice thread!
I guess what makes a beauty queen different from your typical models is the smiles, most often this beauty queen look more stunning when they dont smile, but when they do not many can pull it off perfectly and sometimes its what makes the big difference in beauty..
But when it comes to controlling a smile it should be fine aslong as your smile still looks genuine.
Thank you !
And i agree, it really all depends on the girl. There's obviously girls where her smile can be her strongest asset. But if you dont pull it off then they should learn their angles.

This is simple. PETROLEUM JELLY HELLO!
It's very difficult to control a smile because it is very tiring for the facial muscles especially if you are going to do it the entire day. But, since you are going to smile, you need to do it perfectly in front of the mirror then put petroleum jelly in your teeth then wait for it to dry then you can relax your face but your smile will be permanent, at least for the day.

In my case, I like controlled smiles because over the top smiles really ruin someone's face.
Thanks and I agree !eridstal wrote:This is simple. PETROLEUM JELLY HELLO!

I didn't know about that, that's interesting.

Great article.
Aside from having beautiful set of pearly whites, I believe it's also very important to smile with your eyes.
Nothing beats a genuine and sincere smile.
Aside from the girls you've mentioned, I would add Kimberly Legget of Malaysia.
Her smile makes her cheek rounder, her chin sharper and her oval face longer.
She has improved but her smile takes her beauty down.
.
Thank you ! I agree, no smiles is worth it if its forced and fake. And Kimberly is definitely another great example, her beauty is over once she smiles, although Ive seen pictures of her where she's controlled her smile and she looks good.
