ASHA BHAT: A Tribute to the 2014 Miss Supranational Queen

Miss Supranational Asha Bhat was born in a small town Bhadravati, Karnataka to Subramanya and Shyamala Bhat. Her parents are doctors and have been serving the people of the town through their clinical laboratory.
At 17 years of age she went to Sri lanka as a cadet ambassador of India through the NCC (National Cadet Corps). Asha was awarded as NCC-Cadet ambassador of India at SAARC in 2009.
Miss Diva was something she saw as an opportunity to represent India on an international stage. And then and there, the no-makeup, no-heels 'rough and tough' cadet decided to enter into the world of beauty and glamour.
Miss Diva - Asha is tall, beautiful, humble and very well spoken. She was a favourite from the beginning. But win was not to come easy for her as she got eliminated in an improv challenge. She accepted the result with such grace and humility. But Lara Dutta knew that her time on the pageant is unfortunately cut short and that she has potential, therefore she invited Asha as a wild card entry and then there was no stopping her and she earned the right to represent India at Miss Supranational.
What took me to Miss Supranational was Mutya’s win, I would’ve not cared much the following year if it wasn’t for Asha. It is so true that a good batch of contestants and a right set winners is very important for a pageant to grow. That is what makes Miss Universe and Miss World the best two.
Boots to heels, March-Past to catwalk
Supranational is more of a celebration of fashion and beauty. She was new to these things. So she did what she does best. She remained calm, she worked hard, she embraced everything with a smile, made a lot of friends and let her personality shine.
She is such a genuine and happy person that she makes friends where ever she goes. As she says that, smiling faces can make any journey easier, she has inspired many people to keep smiling and to keep on bringing joy to everyone’s life.
She won the talent competition. There is a funny story related to this. After she finished her performance. She went back to her room and went to bed. She did not know that awards will be given right after the event. So, when she was to receive the award she had to be woken up and called to the stage in her Pj's.
On the finale night, she was a joy to watch. She is a wonderful dancer and a big Madhuri Dixit fan and that certainly helped her on stage. She was not missing any beat. Her catwalk was amazing and her charming smile was warm and refreshing.
She deserved the crown all the way and I am so happy for her. She may not be the conventional Diva or a “Big 2 pageant queen” , but she is a queen with her soul and heart in right place.
Supranational Org. provided her several opportunities to travel to various events in Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Tampa, Hungary, China etc.
She visited various places to understand problems and help people.
She started ASTRA an NGO. And promoted charities like Sahay hastha, brain centre in India. She is also an environmentalist and does her bit to promote safety of nature with or without media chasing her. And she doesn't care about her designer lehenga when someone asks her pick up a broom.
She is equally enthusiastic while hoisting the national flag or visiting Microsoft head office in Redmond,Seattle , Kennedy Space center NASA in Florida or driving a car made by college students.
And yet no matter how much she achieves she never forgets to thank people around her. It is probably her NCC training and her family, that she exudes zen-line calm aura in midst of chaos and down to earth, humble nature, no matter where she goes.
If you follow her Instagram you’ll know how much she loves cooking and food (Well who doesn’t) and what a die hard fan of idli-dosa she is. She is an advocate of fitness and a healthy body image. And she is cute as hell.
She is a tough girl, an occasional fashionista, a great friend to have, a smile- spreader, graceful dancer. She is a very good speaker as well. Supranational may not have an interview round, but they got themselves a speaker. She speaks with conviction and is true to her words.
I don’t know, If she has anymore plans to be in limelight. Though She made her TV debut this year as a host for Miss Diva. Whatever you do, just keep inspiring people to smile and take care of yourself as well.
